Somewhat of a detour this week is bought to you in part by Abele’s entry and a lingering thought I keep getting. What would happen if a Clan Mechwarrior, in this case from the Fire Mandrills, took the best parts of the Nova (aka the Black Hawk and the star of last weeks upgrade) and mixed them with the best parts of the Quasar (see Quicksilver Program #8, link below) to create a new OmniMech? May I introduce you to the Pulsar created for Rupert Kline of the Simian Blazers.

OVERVIEW
Rupert Kline’s original Nova had been rebuilt countless times long before the Simian Blazers began their fight for unity among the Fire Mandrill Clan. The creation of the new Quasar OmniMech gave Chief Tech Megis the opportunity to meld the best of both fifty-ton designs into a superior new one. Eager to improve his war machine’s combat performance Rupert agreed to the senior technician’s suggestion. With the blessing of Star Colonel Alexandra Jannik the two set out on a whirlwind series of modifications which would culminate in the birth of a new OmniMech, the Pulsar.
CAPABILITIES
Built around the venerable Star League XTA chassis shared by both the Nova and the Quasar this century old combat skeleton provides an exceptional base for the new Pulsar. The electronics systems are also identical and enabled easy alteration between parts from either ‘Mech design. Using the 250 XL Model SF-2 Engine from the Nova enables the Pulsar to reaches speeds of eighty-six kilometers per hour at maximum power at about half of the tonnage of the Quasar’s standard fusion engine. Myomer Accessorator Signal Circuitry (MASC) used on the Quasar further boosts that speed to over one hundred kilometers per hour for short bursts. Also like the Quasar it has no fixed jump jets and only those Double Heat Sinks mounted directly to the extra light engine. Finally, Compound FM3 Ferro-Fibrous from the Quasar improve slightly on the Nova’s armor protection for less tons. While both this advanced plating and the lighter power plant take up additional internal space with their bulkier construction materials the benefits outweighed any potential drawbacks. As a consequence of all these adaptations the design has six more tons of pod space then either the Nova or Quasar can mount.
Rupert basing his initial weapons loadout on the original Nova Prime but replaced the dozen Extended Range Medium Lasers with eight Medium Pulse Lasers. Six additional Double Heat Sinks were added to help offset the heat generated by these energy weapons. Only heat produced by movement causes slight overages which must be monitored over the course of combat. While some critics warned about the dangers of such a limited close-range arsenal Rupert has already proven to be deadly accurate. At three hundred sixty meters or closer with this new configuration none have survived his brutal onslaughts thus far.

The challenge for you this week is to come up with the rest of the configurations and for your fluff bonus tell me about your Mechwarrior who is no doubt linked to these loadouts. Like Megis and Rupert they no doubt realized the possibilities offered by the mixing the Nova and Quasar together to create one of these new OmniMechs.
Who uses the new Quasar you ask? Well it is a Fire Mandrill design which has spread quickly to four other Clans (Blood Spirit, Ghost Bear, Steel Viper, Goliath Scopion) who no doubt use it to prop up their existing Nova force, at least in part. Likewise, it is possible that a Mechwarrior from the four Clans (Hell's Horses, Snow Raven, Coyote, Burrock) who stubbornly refused to move on from the Nova has seized upon the Pulsar concept for their own use. Nine Clans to choose from folks!
Again, you are not allowed to alter the base design itself but the configurations are opened game. Clan Level 2 is the tech level for this contest just after Tukayyid so no ATMs, AP Gauss, Heavy Lasers, or Light Active Probes! Teamwork is also very welcomed so if you have an idea it is acceptable to collaborate. Since multiple configurations can win whoever gets the most wins, wins!

Star Captain Josiah Breen one of only six warriors to survive the destruction of the Steel Viper's 94th Battle Cluster in the Devil's Bath
during the Battle of Tukayyid. It came with a cost as he lost his lower left arm due to injuries suffered while evading Comstar infantry
troops after his Nova was destroyed. He also suffered minor burns while making his way back to the lines held by Zeta Galaxy.
He would receive a bionic prosthetic during his trip back to the Homeworlds where he would recover and fight for one of the many
Bloodnames that had been made available following the disaster on Tukayyid. A disaster he laid at the feet of Khan Natalie Breen, the
Master of his Bloodhouse. Despite not having a sponsor, he managed to secure his Bloodname via a Grand Melee and then eliminating
five other candidates while piloting a Nova and a Mad Dog. He made sure that none of the candidates he defeated were
killed as he knew the Clan would need all the Warriors possible in order for the Clan to rebuild.
Once his Bloodname was secured he was given his choice of any OmniMech available. He chose a damaged Nova from the
a scrapyard on New Kent and had it rebuilt to his standards. He made sure the jumpjets were removed and that the armor was upgraded
to ferro-fibrous. This left a significant amount more tonnage available for weapons. His first choice of weapons was ER PPC as it would
give him the best chance of achieving a kill while using as little weight as possible. Next came the Class 5 LB-X autocannon, which
when using cluster rounds could exploit damage to the enemy by the autocannon or the ER PPC. As back up weapons he mounted the
trusty Streak SRM-6 and a pair of ER medium lasers. His final addition was an active probe that could be used to sniff hidden enemy units
on the battlefield, a problem that afflicted many of the Clans who fought on Tukayyid.

Star Commander Evangeline Angharobis serves in Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga's 3rd Assault Cluster and has experienced first the Clan's
Quasar OmniMech as one of the test pilots. Though she was not a great fan of the new Omni, she did see its promise. Once
she heard of the modified Pulsar piloted by a wasrrior in the Kline Kindraa, she successfully Trialed her cluster commander to
reconfigure her Nova in a similar fashion. As she favored autocannons as her main weapon, she mounted a Class 10 Ultra in
the right arm of her Pulsar. A bevy of lasers were chosen to back up the Ultra including an ER large laser and a mixed quartet
of medium lasers.

At the age of 53, Star Commander Carter Uchimura was a fading warrior who had been relegated to commanding a Star in Kindraa
Beyl-Grant's 31st Auxiliary Cluster. Given her years of service and her former rank of Star Colonel, she was allowed to retain an old
Nova as her ride. An ancient and battered machine, it had been refitted to the new Pulsar version of the Nova. It
was unarmed when it was assigned to her. She quickly rectified that and armed it to suit the support mission that her new Star was
to fill. She had studied the battleroms from the various engagements that made up the Battle of Tukayyid and learned that the lack
of ammunition was one of the key reasons that so many Clans were defeated. She had always favored missiles as her weapon of choice
and outfitted her Mech accordingly. She mounted Artemis IV FCS-equipped fifteen-tube LRM launchers in each side torso. Each launcher
was fewdby a tyhree ton ammo bay which would allow her Mech to stay in the field far longer than most missile equipped Mechs. The
Mceh's secondary are a brace each of ER medium and medium pulse lasers.

Star Captain Hyung-min Mortelette is held in some disregard by his superiors within Clan Goliath Scorpion. His recent return from
his Seeker mission was deemed largely unsuccessful as his group returned with very little in information or artifacts. Additonally,
more than half of his retinue had died in the process and only two of the four Mechs he left with had returned. Relegated to serv-
ing in the 12th Cuirassier Cluster in the Mu Galaxy. Then Star Commander Mortelette was given a newly reconfigured Pulsar
fresh from the scrapyards on Roche. Being true to himself and Seeker roots, he fitted the Pulsar with an array of energy
weapons all mated to the ubiquitous, for his Clan, targeting computer. As this raised the heat levels far beyond acceptable levels,
five additional heat sinks were mounted

Star Colonel Giacopo Zukauskas is commander of Clan Burrock's 471st Guards Cluster and has piloted a Nova for nearly all
of his career. After his Nova suffered serious damage in a Trial against the Blood Spirits, it was time to rebuild it to this new
Pulsar the Clan Watch had discovered being in use by the Fire Mandrills. The Star Colonel preferred a more trooper like con-
figuration of his Mech and fitted it out with a twenty-tube LRM laucher and ER large laser as his primary weapons. These are backed
up by a pair of medium pulse lasers and a four-tube Streak SRM launcher. An ECM suite has been added as well as a purely defensive
measure when encountering Warriors of the Dark Caste or the thrice-cursed Blood spirits.

Well with only one entry this week the big winner is Abele who I’d like to thank for his efforts to put something together for this very special challenge. Was really looking forward to exploring the FrakenMech possibilities of this design. I even considered after originally posting this challenge an option to remove the MASC from the base design but that was a little too much even if it would have given us another two tons to play with. I am going to be on the look out for opportunities to play your characters into my storyline as much as possible. We did another event (the Coyote Trials for Khanship in 3052) this weekend and more are on the way (Sohei first mission and first battle of the Marik Civil War). I looked over all your entries Abele and I liked Carter Uchimura LRM carrier (which became Alternate C) the best. Thanks to your five entries I was able to throw an entire write up together fairly easily and it looks pretty good to me. Nice job Abele, let me know what you think of the product below!

The second longer range configuration he came up with was based off the Large Pulse Laser paired with an LB 10-X Autocannon. There weapons were well suited for anti-aircraft fire and were effectively backed up by an ER Medium Laser located in each arm. The addition of four jump jets from the old Nova aided this variants mobility allowing it to traverse almost any terrain. Weapons fire slightly overheats the model A in an all-out barrage making jumping a maneuver that must be carefully monitored.

After studying battleroms from the various engagements that made up the Battle of Tukayyid she learned that the lack of ammunition was one of the key reasons that so many Clans were defeated. Carter had always favored missiles as her weapon of choice and outfitted her new OmniMech accordingly. She mounted Artemis IV FCS-equipped fifteen-tube LRM launchers in each side torso. Each launcher was feed by a three-ton ammo bay which would allow her Mech to stay in the field far longer than most missile equipped Mechs. The Mech's secondary are a brace each of ER Medium and Medium Pulse Lasers.
As new models streamed in from other warriors Kline created Configuration D to establish a dual big gun variant capable of long range firepower. Pairing a Gauss Rifle feed by three tons of ammunition with an ER PPC fashioned a cool running hard hitting variant which was supplemented by two ER Small Lasers. While movement can overheat the Pulsar D it is a minor concern to Mechwarriors especially those out of range with their ER Smalls.
Evangeline Angharobis became the third Mechwarrior to construct her own Pulsar after test piloting Quasars in the Quicksilver Trials. Though she was not a great fan of that new OmniMech, she did see some promise. Once she heard of the modified Pulsar piloted by a Kline, she successfully Trialed her cluster commander to reconfigure her Nova in a similar fashion. As she favored autocannons as her main weapon, she mounted a Class 10 Ultra in the right arm of her Pulsar. A bevy of lasers were chosen to back up the Ultra Autocannon including an ER Large Laser and a mixed quartet of Medium Lasers.
Kline working with Angharobis came up with Configuration F after studying a Stormcrow B in action. Mounting a massive Ultra Autocannon/20 in the right arm after removing the lower arm and hand actuators generated a huge potential damage factor against any would be opponent. Pairing that with two ER Medium and two ER Small Lasers gave in tremendous mid to short firepower. Linking these weapons with a three ton Targeting Computer provided increased accuracy which created an even deadlier variant. A Double Heat Sink was also added to help dissipate some of the heat generated by rapid burst firing.
Giacopo Zukauskas of the Burrock Clan was the sixth and final warrior to build a Pulsar out of his Nova which he had piloted for nearly his entire term of service. After sustaining serious damage in a Trial against the Blood Spirits he combined it with a salvaged Quasar. Preferring a trooper configuration, he fitted it out with a twenty-tube LRM launcher and ER Large Laser as his primary weapons. These were backed up by a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers and a four-tube Streak SRM launcher. An ECM Suite was also added as a purely defensive measure when encountering Warriors of the Dark Caste or the thrice-cursed Blood Spirits.
Hyung-min Mortelette of the Goliath Scorpions was the fifth to meld a Pulsar from the partially built skeleton of a Quasar and the remains of a Nova. This Seeker reconfigured this Pulsar with an array of energy weapons all mated to the ubiquitous, for his Clan, Targeting Computer. As this raised the heat levels far beyond acceptable levels, five additional heat sinks were mounted.
Finally, the group (or most of it anyway) put together a tenth and final configuration for joint use. Equipped with five jump jets for the greatest possible mobility it features many small short to mid-range weapons that can be among the most effective. Three ER Medium and four ER Small Lasers linked to a Targeting Computer make up an accurate energy arsenal that needs no resupply. This is supplemented by three SRM-6 racks with ten rounds of ammo which can be assisted in their exactness by a NARC Missile Beacon. A TAG is also present to call in artillery strikes if so need as well as an ECM Suite and Active Probe which finishes out an exceptional electronic recon package. A single Double Heat Sink is added to help dissipate the heat generated by weapons fire and maneuvering which can overwhelm a Mechwarrior if not closely monitored.
DEPLOYMENT
A total of six Pulsars have appeared in service with the Clans thus far with talk of more to follow. This is largely thanks to the efforts of its creator Rupert Kline who managed to bring the warriors who first piloted it together despite their disparate backgrounds. Carter Uchimura was the first to agree to partner with Kline helping him come up with a system for naming configurations after the warriors who created them. Next was Josiah Breen who favored the idea of cooperating with fellow Clansman as opposed to dealing with the “tainted†InnerSphere denizens who dishonor themselves with their devious actions. It was Breen’s machine that was first spotted by Federated Commonwealth opponents in the InnerSphere where it earned the designation Silver Hawk to denote it from other Clan look alikes. Star Commander Angharobis of Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga joined subsequently even after being derided by many for piloting a ‘FrakenMech’. Star Colonel Giacopo Zukauskas was the lone warrior unwilling to cooperate in these efforts and had to be fought by Trial into accepting a place in the Pulsar’s variants. While difficult to track down Hyung-min Mortelette had allegedly foreseen the groups coming together as part of his strange Seeker rite. Now officially codified by these warriors it remains to be seen if this design will spread throughout the Clans.
