Author Topic: Quicksilver Program #10: 60 ton Zombie OmniMech (BEAT THE LUPUS!)  (Read 1938 times)

A first in our little design challenges has arrived. We have a canon challenger that while retired has been deemed acceptable for a return to production as the Clan 60 ton Zombie OmniMech. That is if there is nothing else better which can quickly be sped into full scale manufacturing. If successful future contests may follow to replace other canon designs that are considered past their prime. The review will be two parts this time around. Not only will your submissions be ranked against your fellow design enthusiasts but the venerable Lupus which can be seen in detail in the Golden Century PDF available over the internet.

Yup that is right folks, step right on up with your 60 ton Zombie and see if you can beat the Lupus. The second OmniMech ever made was introduced by Clan Coyote in 2857 and served the Clans for several decades. Its standard 300 fusion engine enables it to reach a 5/8 movement rate while carrying 9 tons of Ferro Fibrous for a 172 armor factor. Even though it is a ton and a half shy of full protection it carries more than its eventual successor the Mad Dog. 23 tons of pod space for weapons and equipment is not that shabby for this missile boat Omni. EndoSteel structure is pretty high tech and it seems like one of the only reasons for its retirement was its lack of an XL power plant.

The Coyotes have already begun work to restart production on this venerable design so tell me why your entry is better than the Lupus. Can its construction be expedited? Is it capable of new talents that the old Coyote war machine can not do? Does your Zombie flat out beat the Lupus at being a Zombie? Do not be afraid to cite previous entries and as always tell me who designed your OmniMech. The Smoke Jaguars, Wolves, and Jade Falcon remain out but all other Clans including Coyote are in play. Poor Hell’s Horses and Goliath Scorpion still do not produce a single design. I have updated the industrial commitments for the Clans once more based on the results of our latest contest and noted that the Coyotes production is at risk here.

So what am I looking for? 60 ton Clan OmniMech with a standard engine that can take a whole lot of punishment while dishing it out. Since we have entered the Heavy weight class a new design movement minimum of 4/6 has been established. I like to hear about Clan components already in use, like the engines, which have been included in the design to lower costs and speed development. Do not force feed something that is not there. Also remember that Zombies including the Lupus are looked down on by some Clanners. Many refuse to use them or at best will place them in second line service often placing these relics into reserve rather than use them. However these cheap, endurance based designs can be easily manufactured by poorer Clans.

While you are picking a designing Clan keep in mind that another major point in the submission process, the name. The name of your entry is a big deal as more then one designer has found out. Accepted naming conventions for the Quicksilver Program include two major criteria from this point forward. Star League Standard English is a must at this point in Clan history for your presentation. They take great pride in their language and will not pollute it with contractions or foreign ‘Mech names. Also do not name your design after a Clan. I personally dislike the whole totem Mech idea and for the united Quicksilver Program such pomp pomps will be bounced by the ilKhan.

The winning entry will be featured in my FedCom Forever universe which is outlined in my Clarion Call fanfic. Coyote has successfully petitioned Wolf for the manufacturing rights to the Woodsman but do they have doubts in these older designs themselves? Technical Readout 3054: Quicksilver Program is really shaping up thanks to your participation. It will feature all the contest winners, some other notables, and tell us what the Clans of this alternate universe are up to. With every contest we get closer and closer to a finished product.

I still prefer that entries are presented in some kind of design program as it makes things easier on me. I am looking forward to seeing what ideas are developed here and hopefully I can build on them in my fanfic. Any questions or more information can be obtained by simply contacting me at anytime. Deathstalker

Overview
Despite their success in the 45-ton category for PROJECT QUICKSILVER, the Khans of Clan Goliath Scorpion were dismayed when the ilKhan awarded exclusive production rights to Clan Diamond Shark!  Viewed across the Clan as yet another blow in what had become commonly referred to as "The Aggrievement", the sunder between Clans Wolf and Goliath Scorpion was rapidly widening and growing in scale.

Khan Suvorov, however, continued to refused to offer sukairede to the Wolves and in retaliation for the most recent of offenses offered to her Clan by the ilKhan, she pressed her Scientists hard to develop and win the 60-ton Zombie category.

The Khan designated the new OmniMech (in advance of a finalized, or even tentative, design!) as the Deathstalker after the Terra scorpion species whose venom was extremely lethal.  She then set the parameters of the design for her Scientists.

1.  The Deathstalker, intended for use as a second-line OmniMech, must be relatively inexpensive for the Clans to produce and maintain.

2.  The design MUST be able for Clan Goliath Scorpion to mass-produce at its Roche facility and would therefore have to incorporate armor, internal structures, engines, communications, and targeting and tracking systems manufactured by the Clan, OR systems which could be readily obtained with a minimum of combat.

3.  As the design was destined for use by ALL of the Clans, emphasis was NOT to be placed on ballistic or direct fire weaponry, but rather a balanced selection that included missile systems.

And finally, 4.  To make up for the general overall lack of skill present in second-line and garrison forces, ALL configurations must include an integral Targeting Computer.

Faced with these requirements, two members of the DEATHSTALKER Development Team proceeded to commit suicide.  The remainder rolled up their sleeves and went to work.

With a 60-ton chassis required, the Scientists turned to former Khan Nikolai Djerassi for help.  Meeting (once again) with Khan Ian Hawker of Clan Diamond Shark AND Khan Malavai Fletcher of Clan Hell's Horses, Djerassi asked what would those two defend the chassis of the Thresher standard BattleMech with.

Intrigued by the request, the Khans asked for clarification and when Djerassi explained about their development of the Deathstalker, a deal was struck.

Hawker, his factories already converting to produce the Sand Devil, declined to participate, but Fletcher was a different story.  Highly interested in Djerassi's description of the (still non-existent) Deathstalker, the Horse Khan offered to supply Clan Goliath with the schematics as well as several dozen incomplete frames . . . in return for a shared participation in the program.

Khan Suvorov was not overly fond of the idea (as the LAST joint project had only served to enrich the Sharks and gave the Scorpions little but empty prestige) . . . but she accepted the offer after Nikolai convinced her that the aid the Horse had offered was absolutely required to finish the project.

Whereupon, Djerassi met with the scientists of the design team.  He was presented with the basic concept of the design:  a 60-ton chassis utilizing a 240-rate fusion engine acquired from existing Issus ASF and Glass Spider BattleMech production lines.  Although this would limit available speed, computer modeling indicated that even with the inclusion of 10.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating, the resulting Deathstalker OmniMech would have some 29 tons of pod-space . . . one ton more than the front-line Mad Dog OmniMech.  This would be in addition to the Deathstalker possessing more than 23.3% greater armor protection than that Ghost Bear favorite of the Invasion.

Djerassi approved their plans . . . but then threw a new idea into the mix.  Having already promised the Horse Khan that the new Deathstalker would be "a most honorable combatent that renders full honors to our ancestors", he instructed the Development Team to design the configurations based upon the SLDF BattleMechs of old. 

This order would produce a number of configurations that would later on awe observers from other Clans . . . and made the Horses very glad that they had pooled resources into the project.

When the final design schematics and computer simulations were presented to the Horse Khans, they were duly impressed.  Not so much, however, with the existing GSR Facility-1.  The Khans of Hell's Horses, after examining the production facility, doubted that (in its current state) it would ever be able to meet the demand for this new OmniMech.  Believing that the Scorpions had created a winner in their new Deathstalker, the Horse Khan sought to alter the existing bargain.

In exchange for 50% ownership of the GSR Facility-1 on Roche (and an enclave of 500 square kilometers bordering the facility), the Horses would provide the capital investment to expand the production facilities to produce ALL components of the design on site (with the sole exception of endo-steel internal structure which would still have to be manufactured in orbit) and allow for true mass-production of the new war-machine.

At first, Khan Suvorov tried to reject the offer, furious at this "betrayal" by the Horse Khans.  But, after four hours of intense deliberation with both her saKhan Nelson Elam and former Khan Nikolai Djerassi, she came to realize just how much the Scorpions stood to gain.  Gritting her teeth (and hoping for better results than the LAST joint-project), she accepted.  The facility would be renamed GSHHR Facility-1 and the Horses had won a new enclave without a shot being fired.


Capabilities
The Deathstalker masses 60-ton, using a modified DSHM Mod 2.4 endo-steel chassis (designated as the Mod 2.7) borrowed from the Shark/Horse's Thresher BattleMech (leading to the design greatly resembling that older 'Mech).  Ten and one-half tons of Forging ZM15/b ferro-fibrous armor provides 100% of the maximum possible armor protection on a 60-ton biped design.

A Fusion 240 Mk V standard engine provides sufficient motive power for the design to walk at 43.2 kilometers per hour and run at 64.8 kph; slow, by Clan front-line standards for its weight class, but also relatively inexpensive, simple to repair, and difficult to damage in combat.  No jump-jets were fixed to the design, and while the Development Team did consider the use of MASC to boost the speed, they were concerned with the possibility of self-inflicted damage to the myomer bundles and actuators within the legs.

Only the base ten double-strength heat sinks were installed, but the small engine size required one DHS to be fitted outside of the engine core, taking up valuable space in the left torso.

A Crossband System 20 communications system (once again from the Thresher) was installed for communications, but the Targeting and Tracking System was the newly produced Scorpion Mk XIV Multi-Spectrum Phased Array unit.  The Mk XIV was integrated with a Clan Targeting Computer in all configurations and was the only truly "new" piece of equipment on the design.

A full twenty-nine tons remained available for weapons and equipment.  All twelve known configurations were designed in honor of a famed SLDF Heavy- or Assault-weight BattleMech of old.

The Prime Configuration (also known as the "Orion Configuration")  is armed with two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm), an LB-10X autocannon (right torso, with two tons of ammunition for 20 shots stored in the right torso), an LRM-15 launcher with Artemis IV (left torso, with three tons of ammunition for 24 missile salvoes stored in the left torso), and an SRM-6 launcher with Artemis IV (in the right arm, with a ton of ammunition for 15 missile salvoes also stored in the right arm).  A three ton Targeting Computer has been fitted to the right torso.  An eleventh DHS allows the Prime to remain heat neutral on a walking Alpha Strike, generating excess overheat only on a run (and then only a minimal amount).  Unlike the Orion of old, the Prime has fully functional hand actuators on both arms.

Configuration A (aka, the "Marauder Configuration") features two ER Large Lasers (right arm and left arm), two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm), along with an LB-5X autocannon (right torso, with two tons of ammunition for a total of 40 bursts stored alongside).  A four-ton Targeting Computer rests in the right torso.  Sixteen DHS cannot cope with the full heat load of this configuration, but a trained and experienced Warrior should be able to deal with the heat build-up, especially at range.

Configuration B (aka, the "Grasshopper Configuration") mounts four jump jets (two each in the right and left torsos).  Armament consists of a Large Pulse Laser (right torso), four Medium Pulse Lasers (right arm, head, left torso, and left arm), and an LRM-5 missile launcher (left torso, with one ton of ammunition for 24 missile salvoes).  A three-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso makes all of the energy weapons more accurate, while sixteen DHS renders the design heat neutral even on a jumping Alpha Strike.

Configuration C (aka, the "Warhammer Configuration") is armed with two ER Large Lasers (right arm and left arm), two ER Medium Lasers (right torso and left torso), two ER Small Lasers (right torso and left torso), a Streak SRM-6 launcher (left torso with one ton of ammunition for 15 missile salvoes alongside), and two Machine-Guns (right torso and left torso, with a half-ton of ammunition for 100 bursts stored in the head).  A TAG system for calling artillery fire has been fitted to the right arm, while a three-ton Targeting Computer coordinates the laser fire.  Nineteen DHS alleviate most of the heat produced, but the configuration does run hot.

Configuration D (aka the "Archer Configuration") has been fitted with two LRM-20 launchers equipped with Artemis IV fire-control systems (right and left torso, with four tons of ammunition split between the right and left torso for twelve double salvoes).  Five Medium Pulse Lasers provide secondary weapons (head, right arm, and left arm, with the remaining two fitted to the right torso and left torso fixed to fire to the rear).  A two-ton Targeting Computer has been placed in the right torso.  Eleven DHS provides for minimal overheat on a running Alpha Strike (with the forward weapons).

Configuration E (aka the "Thunderbolt Configuration") has been armed with an ER PPC in the right arm, three ER Medium Lasers in the left torso, an LRM-15 launcher with Artemis IV in the right torso (supplied with three tons of ammunition for 24 missile salvoes), a Streak SRM-2 launcher in the head (with a ton of ammunition stored in the left torso for 50 missile salvoes), two Machine-Guns in the left arm (with a half-ton of ammunition stored alongside for 100 bursts), and finally a left-arm mounted Flamer.  A two-ton Targeting rests in the right torso.  Seventeen DHS is not enough to offset the heat of these systems, but the Khans consider it to be sufficient given that the Streak will not lock against every target and the Flamer will only seldom be used in Trials.  The remaining weapons generate a minimal amount of overheat before movement.

Configuration F (aka the "Crusader Configuration") features two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis IV (right arm and left arm, each fed by two tons of ammunition divided between the arms and torsos for 16 tandem missile salvoes), two SRM-6 launchers with Artemis IV (right torso and left torso, with two tons of ammo for 15 twin missile salvoes), two Medium Pulse Lasers (right arm and left arm), and two Machine-Guns (right arm and left arm, fed by a half-ton of ammunition in the right torso).  A one-ton Targeting Computer comes standard, along with thirteen DHS, which eliminates all but movement heat.

Configuration G (aka the "Rifleman Configuration") is armed with two LB-5X autocannons (right arm and left arm, with four tons of ammunition for a total of 80 bursts), an ER Large Laser (head), and two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm).  The design features a four-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso, along with eleven DHS.

Configuration H (aka the "Victor Configuration") features four jump jets (two each right torso and left torso).  Armament is an ER Medium Laser and a Medium Pulse Laser (both in the left arm), a Streak SRM-4 launcher (left torso with a ton of ammo for 25 missile salvoes), and the main gun . . . an LB-20X autocannon in the right arm/right torso with four tons of ammunition (for a total of TWENTY bursts!).  A three-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso supports these weapons.  Just the base 10 DHS are fitted, but this is sufficient to negate all excess overheat on anything but a jumping Alpha-Strike.

Configuration I (aka the "Awesome Configuration") is brutally simple in the Scorpion Way.  Armament consists of three Large Pulse Lasers (right arm, right torso, and left torso), supported by a Medium Pulse Laser (head).  All are tied into a four-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso.  Sixteen DHS eliminates all but movement heat, allowing for the Deathstalker I to run and gun almost with impunity.

Configuration J (aka the "Battlemaster Configuration") is outfitted with an ER PPC (right arm), six ER Medium Lasers (three each in the right and left torso, two fixed to fire to the rear), a Streak SRM-6 launcher (left torso with a ton of ammunition for 15 missile salvoes), and two Machine-Guns (left arm, with a half-ton of ammunition for 100 bursts).  Even with seventeen DHS, heat can be a concern with this machine.  A three-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso makes the weapons fire more accurate.

And finally, there is Configuration K (aka, the "Cylcops Configuration").  Armament consists of two Medium Pulse Lasers (right arm and left arm), an LRM-10 with Artemis IV (left torso with two tons of ammo for 24 missile salvoes), a Streak SRM-4 launcher (left torso with a ton of ammo for 25 missile salvoes), and an LB-10X autocannon (right torso, with two tons of ammunition for 20 bursts).  In addition, the Deathstalker K carries a Flamer on the right arm for anti-personnel work and one-ton of specialized Communications Gear in the head.  A three-ton Targeting Computer is fitted to the right torso.  Even with just the base 10 DHS, the Deathstalker K generates only movement heat on an Alpha-Strike.


Additional
The Scorpions and Horse's submitted the Deathstalker to the ilKhan late in 3052 for consideration.  Realizing that there was sharp opposition from other submissions (and that the ilKhan might well be biased against the Scorpions due to the on-going Wolf-Scorpion Feud), each Clan received two Deathstalkers as a gift for their own evaluations.

Even Clans who do not normally care for such "Zombies" were impressed with the configurations and payload . . . and all recognized the value of such a war-machine in their second-line and garrison Toumans (where speed is not so much of a concern, but expense and resource allocation IS).

But the Scorpions and Horse's were taken aback when Clan Coyote announced that they would soon be restarting production of the ancient Lupus . . . and submitted new configurations of that design in direct competition with the Deathstalker.  Although no decision has yet been made, every Blood-named Warrior of the Clans knows that THIS slot will be the most contested to date.

And eagerly awaits the results.

Well, any entry I do now will be for 2nd place. As either MA or the Lupus will beat it out. It's tough to go against a proven design like the Lupus and try to maych it in the speed category. A 4/6 design with MASC suffers by losing two tons of pod space to the MASC unit. I alredy a 4/6 Quad in the works with 4/6, ES and standard armor (maxed minus 1 point) and have one more ton of pod space than the Lupus but internal space is hampered due it being a quad. Any chance from here on out of avquad actually being selected gets less and less as the weight increases, so does pod but crit space stays the same. I'm gonna give it a whack, but I just don't see it happening. The quad, that is.

Overview:
Designed to be as resilient as possible, the Abyss Kraken was named for the
Great Kraken, an underwater predator on Arcadia. Haunting the geothermal
hotspots of the oceans, the territorial Abyssal Kraken have been a perennial
problem for deep sea mining in these mineral rich regions.

On one notable occasion, an Abyssal Kraken overcame three BattleMechs
reconfigured for underwater operations to protect an operation before the rest
of the Star subdued it, allowing scientists to bring the body to the surface
for study - where it then killed the four scientists and a dozen technicans who
discovered that it was only subdued and not killed. Brett Andrews, one of the
surviving Steel Viper warriors involved and now saKhan nicknamed the beast
'Star Captain' and some say his rise to prominence among the Clan Council
started with forceful petitions to keep the beast alive. (The petition failed
and 'Star-Captain' was killed by an airstrike ordered by Khan Natalie Breen).

Although the project was at first going to be named Abyssal Kraken, the name
was changed to Dire Kraken when unsuccessful initial testing led to the
nickname 'Abysmal Kraken' being used and then to Great Kraken after one
disenchanted warrior concluded "the Kraken is indeed dire' and was promptly
killed in a Trial of Greivance by Brett Andrews.


Capabilities:
The Great Kraken is built around the Pitban 240 fusion engine, which has been
in use for over 500 years. The SLDF used them for the Rifleman, the Awesome,
the Clint and the Spider among others, and Clan Steel Viper already built them
for use in the Battle Cobra so there was no problem with availability. Many
systems were copied or improved on from the aged Crossbow although the torso
harkens back to the Rifleman.

Unlike iconic Steel Viper designs like the Crossbow and Battle Cobra, the Great
Kraken's primary omni-bays are in the chest and it can only arm-mount weapons
when acuators are removed. The reason for the limited bay-space - which
prevents the use of the larger ballistic weapons - is the extensive heating
system. Rather than leave this open for tailoring to each configuration, the
Great Kraken has a very extensive cooling system layered around the reactor and
the limbs. As a result, there's a reasonable probability that even penetrating
hits will cause localised damage to the coolant systems rather than more
critical damage to vital systems.

Despite this, the Great Kraken Prime actually adds four additional heatsinks,
necessary to support the four Extended Range Large Lasers mounted in the arms.
This allows formidable reach and firepower although even so, it overheats quite
easily.

The A configuration is a more balanced weapon-fit with large pulse lasers in
each arm and jump-jets to enable rough terrain that could otherwise hinder the
relatively slow Great Kraken. Filling out the payload are three medium lasers.

Intended for raiding operations, the B configuration mounts no arm-weapons,
since both hands may be needed. Instead primary armament is a pair of Extended
Range PPCs in the chest and a triad of Extended Range Medium Lasers, All these
are linked to a targeting computer and the Great Kraken B also mounts
electronic counter-measures.

For battles expected to operate at close ranges, the Great Kraken C is built
around eight medium pulse lasers and a single extended range laser. Jump-jets
allow for mobility in all but the densest of terrain.

The D configuration is dual purpose and some would say 'duel purposed'. It's the
only configuration to use ammunition. One arm mounts carries an Extended Range
Large Laser mated with a targeting computer. The other has a Narc launcher
which complements a formidable number of short-range missile launchers. Once a
target's been tagged with a Narc Beacon, the Great Kraken can accurately deploy
no less than forty short-range missiles. Warriors are divided on whether to
engage with missiles first before backing off and using the laser to target
weakened armour or using the laser to breach armour before using the SRMs to
inflict internal damage.

Nice job with the Deathstalker and the Great Kraken. I wonder if they can beat the Lupus or will somebody else beat them!

It's possible to win on the basis of fluff, Abele. Minor differences and improved story can give you a solid candidate.

Overview:
Nearly a century after the Smoke Jaguars completed their absorption of Clan
Mongoose, Clan Hell's Horses issued a series of trials to enlarge their
holdings on the planet of Kirin at the expense of the Smoke Jaguars. During the
six months of trials, the Hell's Horses were able to expand their enclave to
its current size capturing a small research facility, among other Jaguar
assets. Among the isorla in this research facility was a memory core thought to
be of Smoke Jaguar origin, which was later found to be of Clan Mongoose origin.
On this core were the early schematics for a design known as the Snow Leopard,
which was an early Mongoose that had been slightly improved upon by Jaguar
scienitsts. However, the Jaguar scientists ended the program early due to alck
of fundamental knowledge in the fabrication of quad designs. The Snow Leopard
design ended up in deep storage for nearly a century.

When IlKhan Kerensky announced the Quicksilver Program, Hell's Horses
scienitsts went back to the old Snow Leopard schematics and went to work on two
different projects based on these schematics. The Thunder Cat Team would
develop the high speed version of the chassis and give it a very feline
appearance, while the Raging Bull team went with an aggressive bovine
aesthetic. Built low to the ground with thick legs inspired by the Thunder
Stallion and a wide, thick torso adn horns on the large head, the Raging Bull
was meant to strike awe in its opponents.

When it came to the weaponry that would be used on the Raging Bull, Khan
Fletcher dictated that all configurations should be capable of dealing death
blows with one salvo. This one-shot, one-kill methodolgy limited the designers
to only a handful of weapons, three of which were large ballistic with the
remianig weapon being the ER PPC. The first four configurations that came out
of the team met Khan Fletcher's requirements, but the three follow-on
configurations wer designed support for the other four.

An added bonus to the Raging Bull is the MASC system to reach speeds of 85kph
for short bursts. This most helpfull when the Mechwarrior wishes to charge
forward and close ground with his opponent. This still leaves the Raging Bull
slower than its sister design, the Thunder Cat.

What has the Raging Bull team truly excited is that due to the ubiquitous stand
240 power plant, the Raging Bull uses less than half of the material assets
(costs less) than the Thunder Cat, while having signifanly better armor
protection and pod space.

Even the announcement that Clan Coyote was about to bring the Lupus back
could not bring them down. The design was ancient and already been replaced
once by the Mad Dog, so they believed it to be no threat in this competition. If
it were a wrothy design it would still be on the battlefield to this day, not consigned
to the trash heap of history.


Variants:
The Prime configuration, designated by the simple codename of Coil features a
Gauss Rifle with three tons of ammuniton as its primary destructive weapon. A
pair of medium pulse lasers and trio of ER medium laser act as secondary
weapons should the Guass rifle deplete it ammo bins. Four A-pods are mounted on
the legs to discourage infantry attacks.

The second configuration, codenamed Shell, features the Ultra-20 autocannon as
the primary weapon. This weapon is a bit hard to come by and Hell's Horses
merchants paid the Diamond Sharks dearly for the acquisition of this weapon
from the Steel Vipers. The weapon is fed by an ammo bin that carries three tons
of ammunition. A key design aspect was the addition of jump jets to provide
greater tactical mobility on the battlefield. The primary backup weapn is an ER
large laser. This gives the Raging Bull a long distance to use as it maneuvers
into postion to bring the big autcanno to bear. A small pulse laser is the sole
remaining weapon.

The third configuration, codenamed shot, replaces the Ultra-20 with an LB 20-X
autocannon with the same deep ammo bin. The primary backup weapons are twin
LRM-5s sharing a one-ton ammo bin. The missile barrage has the same tactical
value as the previous variant's ER large laser. These launchers are backed up
by a brace of ER medium lasers. The jump jets form the previous variant remain.

The fourth configuration, codenamed Plasma, features a pair of ER PPCs  to
administer death and destruction upon the enemy. Four additional heat sinks are
mounted to handle the heat of the PPCs, but still leave plaenty of heat to
engage the MASC when necessary. A medium pulse laser and Streak SRM-6 are
carried as backup weapons. Four A-pods are mounted in the legs to defend
against enemy infantry.

The fifth configuration, codenamed Arrow, is probalby the most controversial of
the seven for the Raging Bull. It comes fitted with an Arrow IV missile
artillery system. Seeing the failures of Luthien and Tukayyid, the Horses
believe that this weapon can be beneficial in softening fixed postion or
disrupting spheroid formations while on the march. When used in conjunction
with a TAG-equipped Mech or vehicle it can deliver a decisive blow to a lone
enemy with a homing missile. A large pulse laser is carried to keep enemy mechs
away, while a pair of flamers mounted on the fore legs keep infnatry and battle
armor away. A pair of A-pods are mounted on the rear legs

The final two configurations are missile-based support configurations. The
first is a jump-capable long range missile support battery carrying two Artemis
IV-equipped LRM-15s with six tons of ammo to feed this configuration's hungry
appetite. Secondary weapons are a trio of ER medium laser and medium pulse
laser.

The second missile configuration features a quartet of Streak SRM-6s with a
tone ammunition each. An ER large aser and quartet of leg-mounted ER small
laser provide additional fire power for this configuration. Two additional heat
sinks are mounted to help mitigate some of the excess heat that is built up.

Now to look forward to the next design, though I don't lnowwhich weight clas that will be. 65 tons has two assailants (Ebon Jaguar and Hellbringer[should be eliminated]), a speedster (Linebacker) and a zombie (Crossbow, could be replaced). The 70-ton range lools to be the nex best option where the Summoner fills the speed role and the Nova Cats fits as the assailant, so we have yet another chance at a Zombie. 75 tons only has th Zombie open as the Timber Wolf and Night Gyr fill the speedster and assailant roles, respectively.

Very impressive! The Raging Bull is a beast very nice job. Yeah Abele we have gone ahead and ruled the Hellbringer an out of production design which whose Assailant role is now being picked up by the Ebon Jaguar. According to my information we have two more heavy challenges following this one.

I considered the OM, Takiro, but really wanted a 'Mech that duplicates all of the famous SLDF-era 'Mechs from TRO:3025.  Couldn't do that on a 5/8 chassis.

Clan Burrock pulled what may well be the ultimate intellegence coup among the Clans.  through thier watch members they had discovered that as soon as Operation REVIVAL made contact with the Inner Sphere, and reports floated back in, that Clan Star Adder (And Clan Coyote with improved Missiles) was already hard at work figuring our how to increase the power of laser and particle weaponry, and that the Star Adders had been uncaching Lupus Omnimechs or trailing for decommissioned Lupus Omnimechs to use as test beds and/or Crash Armament build ups.  the Burrocks knew that the weapons themselves were still in concept and early materiels testing, not to be ready until the end of the decade at the latest.  the use of the outdated Lupus concerned them however, as it was a mech the Burrocks had little access to since the Nova Largely served their own purposes.  one mech they did have in spades however was the Glass Spider. whose wide open chassis and easy to develop equipment permitted them to  create an enhanced omnimech version that could sweep the Adders feet from under them.

renamed the Iron Spider, this new Omnimech is manufactured from the Glass Spiders molds.  Some Internal changes had to me made to accommodate the Omnimech hard points, despite this the Iron Spider is a nearly identical to the Glass Spider in every way, permitting parts to be swapped between the two mechs with trivial ease. the one major difference is the full ton of armor that was sacrificed in order to bring the pod space up to 30 tons,

the Primary and A Configurations of the Iron Spider is a flat recreation of the Glass Spider with all of the benefits there in.  the Prime does contain a 6th ton of ammunition, imperative for combat against the Inner Sphere, while the A Swaps the Small Pulse Lasers for additional MEdiums and Heat Sinks.

Configuration B was created using Intelligence and after action Reports of the so called "Clan Buster" Mechs deployed by the Com Guard.  the Curiosity that was the Champion Clan Buster proved to be particularly effective, especially considering the Champion was not well thought off even during the days of the Star Leauge.  Most curious in this mech was the use of old fashioned large lasers.  initially scoffed at as the idea of a resource strapped clan, the Lasers were sourced from cached Pulverizers still used by Burrock forces for garrison duty.  went sent into the field in computer trials, the Standard Lasers lacked range, but ran so much cooler that a high fire rate was able to be kept up along side the 88mm Cannon.

Designed to replicate the venerable SLDF Victor in City Fighting, the B owes more then a few pointers from the Lupus B it is competing directly against.  A massive 12 Centemeter Autocannon, the same kind reserved for the Dire Wolf, Warhawk, and Executioner dominates the right arm.  a battery of six lasers occupy the other side, with all of these weapons tied to an advanced targeting system for additional accuracy.  the cannon is fed by enough ammunition for 150 seconds of sustained fire.  most unusal is the jump jets.  because the legs and Center Torso are occupied by vital structural components, two of the Jets had to be placed on one side, and a combination of Gyroscope programming and "creative" thruster Assemblies were used to maintain balance mid jump.  this ability to deploy jump jets in a manner that is not balanced on all sides is completly revolutionary, and scientists ion other clans have been stumbling over themselves for the schematics.

Another Inner SPhere inspired Cioty Fighter, the D is a more brute force solution modeled after the AFFS Enforcer, which was one of the many cast off mechs the Rim World's Republic originated clan had used in Operation KLONDIKE.  a rapid fire 88mm Cannon was borrowed from the commonly deployed Thresher Battlemech, while the Kingston ERPPC supplimented.  Two ER Medium lasers replace the classic Enforcers small, and four jump jets (this time balanced).  allow for additional manuverability. 5 additional heat sinks keep the mech cool, particularly if the back up lasers are held in reserve.

Configuration E is designed for Mass LRM support, four LRM Launchers with six tons of ammunition make up this configurations primary armament.   though scarcely enough ammunition for a minute and a half of sustained fire, the Iron Spider can last on the field longer then the Mad Dog and Lupus Primes. six medium lasers provide backup to these weapons, with two facing rear to deter challengers.

Configuration F was designed as a clear signal to clan Star Adder, that even they the mightiest among the clans who were not invading the Inner Sphere were being watched carefully.  point for point, the Iron SPider F is armed identically to a proposed Lupus Configuration (sans improved laser technology) while more a propaganda tool and intelligence coup the F is Viable for multi threat warfare in tight quarters.  though massively prone to overheating, a pilot of the F Configuration will almost never want for weapons to fight with.

the G Configuration is a replacement for the Naga Omnimech, and uses the exact same Arrow IV Battery.  despite lacking the selfe defense weaponry of the Naga Prime, the Burrock Warriors and Scientists point out that a proper artilleryman should have plenty of support in front of him and no desire to fight up close.  the sentiment got a nod from Star Colonel James Cobb, who represented the Horses in this round of initial approvals before passing the mech on to the ilKhan.

the Final Configuration is the biggest oddity yet, and was presented as more of a proof of concept then a viable tactical option for the clans.  the Burrocks had come up with an intact copy of the Hachiman Taro Electronics C3 Master Module.  modeling the H Configuration after the Primitve Bellerophon mech from the pre Star Leauge Era.  The H could be used across Mixed Stars,  where a simple ER medium laser could be sacrificed in favor of a Slave Module (still un obtained as of the development of the Iron Spider).  proper deployment of Masters could allow for full trinary integration and a massive spike in targeting efficiency and coordination.  while the warrior representatives scoffed at this idea, multiple scientist posed further questions and hypotheticals, such as how to decrease the size and scale of the C 3 network.

When asked how soon the Iron Spider could be produced, Scientist Alcede and Star Colonel Henry Holliday confirmed that the Burrocks were already well underway towards converting their Glass Spiders towards the Omnimech, and that all existing Glass Spiders could be converted in less then a year.  This beat projected manufacturing time tables for the Quicksilver program of new mechs by a full five years, something that brough applause to the numerous Star Colonels overseeing this particularly part of the quicksilver program

Very impressive! The Raging Bull is a beast very nice job. Yeah Abele we have gone ahead and ruled the Hellbringer an out of production design which whose Assailant role is now being picked up by the Ebon Jaguar. According to my information we have two more heavy challenges following this one.

I don't remember the name of the one I originally put up, but if it was a quad, the Raging Bull is a revision of that.


JP, if I was going to do a biped, I would have based it on the Glass Spider, too. Good choice, sir.

That was a major concern but at the end of the day the choice of existing assailants is between the Hellbringer and the Ebon Jaguar. Despite its poor introduction the new Jaguar design is more improved then the older Hellbringer of course combat trails will be the determining factor. Which will show in the right hands the Ebon Jaguar is far more capable than the Hellbringer which will slowly be phased out. Perhaps smaller secondary production facilities might continue limited runs and keep stocking repair parts but the Hellbringer like the Nova is a design of the past for the Clans.

Zombies are not really in direct competition with Vampires (Assailants) so the short answer is no. But if the Ebon Jaguar continues to come up short against its competitors it will be replaced.
