Okay I was struggling with the fluff and the name for the mech. I am still going for the Clan Dimond Shark leading a joint Clan Engineering development team. Here is my mech for the 75 ton Zombie.
The Jaeger Arachnid!
OVERVIEW
After losing several competitions, the group of Warrior Merchants of Clan Dimond Sharks reevaluated why the lost and what can be done about the next viable category. Going with the 75ton Zombie category for Operation Quicksilver. The Warrior Merchants again contacted several other clan’s to see if they wanted to share the cost of R & D of the prototypes. Clan Blood Spirit, Goliath Scorpion and Snow Raven. This time it was agreed that all the participating clans will share in the manufacturing of the parts for the Mechs while, it will be assembled by two Clan’s that has the factory space.
The four Clan engineering team decided to base the chassis of their 75 ton Zombie mech on Clan Wolf’s Timber Wolf design. They gathered the worst chassis of the Timber Wolf in all four clan’s and set about redesigning it. To prevent Clan Wolf from complaining and asking for a Trial of Grievance. The Khan’s of the four clan’s negotiated with Khan Kerensky for the right to modify and updated the venerable Timber Wolf chassis. They settled on a Trial of Possession (The payment those clan’s will have to make to Clan Wolf) to be held if the Jaeger Arachnid gets selected as the winner of the 75 ton Zombie trial. Until then, Clan Wolf will be given a prototype to test on their own.
With the matter settled for the time being, the engineering group gathered and assembled enough chassis to assemble 28 chassis, a Star of each will go to the participating Clan and to Strana Mechty for the Operation Quicksilver testing. The remaing three were given to Clan Wolf for evaluation by their garrison clusters. The external appearance was engineered to look like the Timber Wolf so it will confuse the enemy targeting and tracking system.
The name Jaeger Arachnid was chosen because it signifies the mission of the mech to be used primarily by garrison/secondary line units. At the same time to be a deadly mech to be mostly used with other units.
CAPABILITIES
The mission profile of the Jaeger Arachnid is for the use of the second line forces of the invading Clan’s and as a line omnimech of the more resource poor clan’s. By basing the chassis on the Timber Wolf, the Warrior Merchant’s of Clan Dimond Shark are betting the familiarity of using the existing parts of the Timber Wolf to the Jaeger Arachnid will lower the maintenance costs. MASC and jump jets are included in all the verision to give it the mobility it needs and an anti-missle system is standard in all versions. And it has 11 tons of Ferro Fiberous armor that provided 91 percent coverage.
The Prime variant is designed as a general purpose brawler. It has an LRM 15w/Artermis IV with three tons of ammo. An ER PPC and a Lg Pulse laser is paired with a Targeting computer. An SRM 6 Streak with a ton of ammo is used for short range. Its jump jets gives it an added mobility of jumping 60 meters in any direction. It has 12 double strength heatsinks to help it manange the heat.
Type A was designed to be a direct fire support unit. It is armed with a pair of ER PPC for long range fire and a pair of ER Med lasers for short range use with a pair of SRM 6 and three tons of ammo to back it up. An MG is mounted on the Arms with a ton of ammo for its use for anti-infantry use. All the direct fire weapons are paired with the Targeting computer. This model tends to run hot, even with 14 double heatsinks. The mech warrior piloting this will have to be careful when it wants to fire both ER PPC’s and when it uses its jump jets.
Type B is designed as a LRM fire support. It mounts three LRM 15 with Artemis IV and nine tons of ammo to supply it. An ER Lg laser and a ER Med Laser is added as a back up weapons. It mounts only ten double heatsinks to help it manage the heat generated. This reduces the heatsinks to only 10 double strength.
Type C removes the Targeting computer to lower the costs and is designed as an abusher and close ranged brawler The Type C retains one LRM 15 and Artemis IV with three tons of ammo for long range engagement, For medium to short range its armed with 5 ER med lasers and an LB-20X with three tons of ammo. An ECM is added to this model to help it avoid being found or targeted.
Type D removes the AMS but retains the ECM and increases its jump jets up to 120 meters. This model is designed as highly mobile AA model. On Right arm it mounts a LB-5X with three tons of ammo to back it up and an ER Med laser. On the Left arm it mounts a Ultra-5AC with four tons of ammo to use and an ER Med laser. An ER Lg Laser is mounted on the head to give it a extreme long ranged fire.
Type E has been designed as a escort mech and anti-battle armor unit. It retains the ECM of the previous model. This model mounts 13 double heatsinks and reduces the jump capacity to 60 meters. It also keeps the ECM. Most of the weapons are mounted on the arms, Each arms contains an ER Lg laser, med pulse laser, a Heavy MG (a ton of ammo is shared for all three MG), an SRM 4 with a ton of ammo for use and a flamer. On the left and right torso a med pulse laser and flamer is installed. The only other difference in the torso is one mounts an AMS and the other the third Heavy MG.
Type F is designed as a independent of ammo use. It mounts 17 heatsinks to help it manage the heat and has a jump capacity of 120 meters. Each arm mounts an Lg pulse laser and an ER med laser for medium to short range fire. The arms also mounts a flamer for anti-infantry work or setting urban or wilderness areas on fire. On the left and right torso an ER Lg laser is added for long range fire. The ECM was kept to help it being found or targeted.
DEPLOYMENT
Each Clan has deployed their Star worth of mechs as a unit with an engineering/technician team to monitor its performance. Clan Blood Spirit sent their mechs against Clan Burrock forces and fared decently against the highly mobile Burrock forces. Clan Goliath Scorpion sent its star to be used by the Cateran Cluster in its various traials against other clan’s. The results so far has been favorable. Clan Dimond Shark and Snow Raven sent their units against Periphery forces from bandits to forces of the Hanseatic League and the garrison units on Clan Cloud Cobra’s tanite worlds. Those engineering/technician teams so far has to transmit their results. The three units sent to Clan Wolf was immediately sent to their Occupation Zone and issued for use by their garrison warriors. This was issued to Star Commanders of three different garrison units. They primarly use either the Prime variant or the Type E model for anti-infantry work.
