In my opinion there are a variety of 80 ton chassis that could be utilized. Brand new chassis would require more development time then Clan designs already in production or in use usually get a leg up on the competition. Nobody has tried the Phoenix Hawk IIc or the Naga which has been limited by Quicksilver. The middle ground would be older or retired designs used by the SLDF like the Spartan and Striker in this case as well. Looking over the Awesome there is a "natural fit" for this redesign. I was just curious on everyone's motivations.

You've got 11 chassis to choose from. Awesome, Charger, Spartan (likely basis for the Gargoyle), Striker, Goliath, Victor and Thug from the SLDF era. Phoenix Hawk IIc, Warhammer IIc, Naga and Gargoyle from the Clans.

Blood Tiger



Overview:
With one win in Operation QUICKSILVER under their belts, the Diamond Sharks pushed ahead to secure a second design victory.  Khan Hawker ordered his Scientists to prepare an 80-ton standard engine OmniMech, designed specifically for sell or trade to Clans such as Blood Spirit, Burrock, Cloud Cobra, Fire Mandrill, and Goliath Scorpion.  However, he also insisted that the design was to be capable enough to appeal to more resource-rich Clans as a second-line/garrison unit.

At the same time, the Khans of Clan Blood Spirit approached the Sharks with a preliminary design for that exact weight class.  Unable to dedicate additional production facilities, they hoped that by teaming up with the Merchant Clan, they might have their design accepted, earning much needed capital and esteem in the process.

The basic layout of the Spirit proposal called for a 320-rate standard fusion engine (for a walking speed of 43.2 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 64.8 kph) and would be based off of the existing Warhammer IIC chassis.  But the Shark scientists considered that design simply too finely-tuned to easily adapt into an OmniMech.  After a series of changes (all for the better, the Sharks assured the horrified Spirits), Khan Hawker approved the design.

Although not exactly what the Spirits had wanted, the new OmniMech tentatively named the Blood Tiger still met all of their criteria . . . now all that remained was to actually produce the prototypes.

As a side-note, the Shark Scientist caste labeled the design as the Tigershark initially . . . before the Spirits joined in the development process.  A direct order from Khan Hawker relabeled the war-machine as the Blood Tiger to placate the tender Spirit nerves.  Arriving on Strana Mechty, the prototypes unveiled were painted in a base of Gun-Metal Grey and adorned with blazing tiger stripes of Black, Orange, and Red . . . making the Blood Tiger one of the most visually distinctive of the submissions to the 80-ton standard engine competition.


Capabilities:
The Sharks raided a number of their production lines for the components of the Blood Tiger:  the CrossBand System 20 comm-array and Dtrac Suite 1 targeting & tracking system came from the Thresher, the Forging AM15 ferro-fibrous armor were borrowed from the Phoenix Hawk IIC, and the Type 10 320-rate standard fusion engine was originally fitted to the Warhammer IIC.  As all of these war-machines are produced (or were produced at some time in the past) by Clan Diamond Shark, the parts supply is ample for all projected needs.

The only original component was the upgraded chassis of the THG-11Eb Royal Thug.  Already utilizing endo-steel, the newly redesigned chassis featured modern Clan ES internal structure, reducing the volume required and creating enough internal voids to convert the chassis into an OmniMech.  Designated as the DST-IV chassis, the Sharks anticipated little difficulties in manufacturing the new frame.

Twelve double-strength heat sinks would be banked within the engine core of the Type 10, while the spacious arms and torsos would allow for the installation of up to thirty-two tons of weapons, munitions, heat-sinks, and equipment.  Actual armor protection compared to the Royal Thug decreased slightly (from an AV of 247 to 240) thanks to the reduction in tonnage from 15.5 tons of standard plate to 12.5 tons of ferro-fibrous.  Still, both the Sharks and Spirits considered this a minor issue at worst.

The Prime Configuration mirrors that of the original Royal Thug.  Each arm carries an ER PPC (albeit without the hand and lower arm actuators of the progenitor design).  Instead of two SRM-6 missile racks, the Sharks mounted FIVE Streak SRM-4 launchers (two each in the right torso and left torso, with the final unit in the head beneath the cockpit) fed by two tons of ammunition.  Twenty double-strength heat sinks cannot alleviate ALL of the generated heat, but given the 'No-Lock, No-Fire' nature of Streak missile systems, this was deemed more than acceptable.  As it is, if just three S-SRM-4s lock onto target and are fired with the ER-PPCs, the design is heat neutral on a walk.

Configuration A replaces the ER PPCs in the arms for two Large Pulse Lasers (and adds in the hand and lower arm actuators).  The short-range missile battery is replaced by two LRM-15 systems outfitted with Artemis IV FCS and fed by a total of six tons of ammunition (24 tandem salvoes), all systems evenly divided between the right and left torsos.  Sixteen DHS makes the Blood Tiger A heat neutral on a run, while a cockpit mounted ECM Suite adds additional protection.

Configuration B was intended to appeal to the Burrocks and Fire Mandrills, as well as the Blood Spirits.  The primary weapons are two Ultra AC-10s (right arm and left arm) fed by six tons of ammunition (60 total bursts).  Three Medium Pulse Lasers comprise the secondary bracket (right torso, left torso, and head).  Although the design WILL overheat slightly on a running Alpha-Strike in double-tap mode, in most cases a skilled Warrior can easily compensate.

Configuration C is armed with a Gauss Rifle in the right arm (fed by FIVE tons of ammunition for a massive 40 shots!), with both an LB-5X autocannon with two tons of ammunition for 40 bursts and an ER Large Laser in the left arm.  Two  ER Medium Lasers (right torso and left torso) back up the big guns.  Even with just the twelve base DHS, the Blood Tiger C is quite cool-running, generating only movement heat as excess on a running Alpha Strike.

The Blood Tiger D is intended for sale to Clan Goliath Scorpion and features a four ton Targeting Computer in the right torso.  Weaponry consists of three ER Large Lasers (two in the right arm and one in the left, both of which have fully functional lower arm and hand actuators) and EIGHT ER Medium Lasers (one in the right arm, two in the left arm, one in the head, and three each in the right and left torso).  Twenty DHS do not even BEGIN to compensate for the potential overheat of this OmniMech.  However, the Blood Tiger D can run-and-gun at range 16+ all day long without breaking a sweat.  In close, utilizing the octuple ERML battery generates only movement heat.  And if the Warrior decides he simply MUST Alpha-Strike, there is no explosive munitions carried onboard.

Finally, the Blood Tiger E carries four jump jets (two each in the right and left torsos) for a jump capability of 120 meters.  Armament is an ER Large Laser in the left arm (with lower arm and hand actuators) and an Ultra AC-20 in the right arm (lacking any functional lower arms or hands) fed by four tons of ammunition (20 single-mode bursts).  To complement the UAC-20 at short range, this Configuration also carries six ER Small Lasers in the left torso.  Seventeen double-strength heat sinks allow the design to remain heat neutral when firing all the weapons with the UAC-20 in single-shot mode while walking or running; however, a double-tap or jumping Alpha-Strike will often result in a critical heat spike, provided the Blood Tiger E is within range of the ERSL battery.  Many Spirit, Burrock, and Mandrill Warriors consider it more than worth the risk of a premature ammunition detonation.


Deployment
Clan Diamond Shark produced a full Trinary of fifteen Blood Tigers for delivery to Strana Mechty and the ilKhan's competition.  Adorned in flamboyant paint schemes intended to mimic a tiger's stripes and gaping jaws, these OmniMechs have attracted much attention.  Their effectiveness in Trials conducted by the Ebon Keshik has not gone unnoticed either.

Overview:
Clan Cloud Cobra, like several other Clans, was eager to to gain a chance to
seek the honor of producing a new winning design for IlKhan Kerensky's
Operation Quicksilver program. As one of the smaller Clans they lack both
resources and infrastructure to produce some of the more advanced designs and
had to settle for cheaper and more efficient tech ologies to compete in this
program. The competition for an 80-ton design featuring a non-extralight fell
under the oversight of Star Captain Delindo Halstead of the 97th Cobra Guards.
Star Captain Halstead, was given this task personally by Loremaster Eleni Riaz.

In order to fastrack this program, Star Captain Halstead decided that a few
developmental corners had to be cut in order to get the design done in the
required amount of time. With the permission of his cluster commander and the
Khan, Halstead journeyed to Arcadia and issued a challenge to Clan Star Adder
for the chassis schematics for the Naga OmniMech and a Star's worth of empty
chassis. They chose the Star Adder as they were the only producers of the Naga
in the Pentagon worlds. His team of scientists only needed the empty chassis as
they were not going to be using the burdensome 400XL powerplant that the Naga
used.

Halstead and the binary of assault Mechs he bid into the fight defeated the
Star Adder force arrayed against. Unfortunately, Star Captain Halstead was
injured in the process when he was forced to eject from his damaged
Executioner. While his body adjusts to his new bionic arm, he still oversees
the design team working on Project Horus.

With the chassis now in place, Halstead's team of scientist led Senior
Scientist Winston set to making the Horus into an improved version of the Naga.
With extralight powerplant not being in use, Winston and his stripped a number
of Warhammer IIC's of their powerplants and mounted them in the Naga chassis,
which, with a few minor adjustments, fit well into the torso. Next came the
armor application. The Naga originally came with nine tons of standard armor,
which was totally inadequate for frontline service. Winston and his scientists
replaced that with twelve-and-a-half tins of ferro fibrous armor which was just
short of the meximum amount an 80-ton chassis could carry.
 
Aesthetically, they wanted the Horus to resemble its namesake Egyptian god.
With a bit of artistic license, the area around the cockpit and uppertorso was
made to represent the the hawk-like visage that represented the god Horus.


Variants:
With a total of thirty-two tons of pod space available, the Horus had more pod
space than the faster Gargoyle and the larger Executioner, both mainstays
of the Clans and was less vulnerable to internal damage due to the placement of the
standard fusion engine. As project overseer, Star Captain Halstead reserved the right to
configure the Prime to himself. Using his favorite configuration of the Executioner,
the A model, as the basis for this configuration. It differed only in the number of large
pulse lasers it carried. Mounting only two, the Prime replaced the third pulse laser with
an ER large laser so that same number of double heat sinks could be carriedin the Horus
Prime as there were in the Executioner A. All other weapons stayed the same, though the
layout was slightly more uniform due to the allocation of heat sinks and themounting of
the ER Large laser in the head. Four jump jets are mounted to main the mobility of the
Executioner A that Star Captain Halstead preferred.

The Alpha is the heavy striker featuring a Gauss rifle paired with an ER PPC
and is designed with the 'one shot, one kill' mentality of the Clan warrior in
mind. The Gauss is fed by a four-ton ammo bay for prolonged fights against both
Clan and Spheroid oponents. The cobras read the reports of pooe logistics being
one of downfalls during the Battle of Tukayyid and wanted to eliminate the
issue as muchas possible. A Streak SRM-6 and a trion of medium pulse laser
provide the necessary back up weapons for the Alpha's big guns.

The Beta is an homage to the Warhawk and features a quartet of ER large laser
mated to a targeting computer. While the armament may not be of the pulse
variety like the Warhawk, the Beta has the ability to inflcit significant
damage to an enemy mech. A total of eight double heat sinks have been added to
help mitigate the heat generated by the large lasers.

The Gamma features a Class 20 LB-X autocannon as its main weapon. This huge gun
is fed by a four-ton ammo bay which can carry any variety of ammo the mech's
pilot prefers. To allow the Horus to close with the enemy, an Artemis
IV-equipped twenty-tube LRM launcher with three tons of ammunition is mounted
in the left torso. A quartet of pulse lasers, three medium and a small, provide
the secondary support for the Horus Gamma.

The arm-mounted weapons of the Delta are reminiscent of the ancient Marauder as
each arm is fitted with an ER PPC and an ER medium laser. A pair of Streak
SRM-4s provide additional close quarters support. Eight additional heat sinks
go along way to ridding the heat buld up of the main battery. Heat concerns only arise
when the Horus brings the ER medium lasers into firing range. At this point it is up
to the pilot in the cockpit to maintain heat discipline. Of course, this may not be an issue,
as a good Clan mechwarrior should have already eliminated the enemy before getting
too close for the medium laser to beocme necessary.

The Epsilon configuration is a tribute to the Naga, which gave life to the
Horus. Aingle Arrow IV aartillery missile laucnher is carried on the right side
of the Hours and is fed by a foru-ton ammo bin that can carry all types of
ammunition available to the pilot. The secondary armament can be traced back to
the Helepolis artillery battlemech used during the Star League, which has been
updated to more modern technology. Two missile delivery systems are used and
feature Artmeis IV fire control system. The LRM-15 and SRM-6 provide additonal
fire support to the Arrow IV system. As an additonal backup, a pair of ER
lasers, one large and one medium, are carried.

The final configuration, the Zeta, is another configuration created by Star
Captain Halstead and is a tribute to the Rifleman II that his original
ancestor, Danila Halstead, used during Operation Klondike. The large pulse
laser stayed due to thier superior accuracy and range. Unable to mount the twin
LB 10-X autocannons due to weight considerations, a pair of Class-5 LB-X
autocannons were mounted instead, Each of these autocannons has a two-ton
ammunition bay. A brace of ER medium lasers are the only other weapons carried
by the Zeta.

Overview:
Running out of resources from previous attempts, Clan Goliath Scorpion had
almost lost hope of participation. Swearing to find a path to the future for
her Clan, Loremaster Monica Scott took a heavy dose of Necrosia, escaped her
servants and wandered for days in the wilds of Roche. Search parties were being
assembled when Scott reappeared, a haggard wreck of herself. Demanding a
private meeting with Khan Ariel Suvorov, the Loremaster remained closeted with
the Khan for hours before a medical team was summoned. Monica Scott expired
while being rushed to a medical lab, her death caused by exhaustion and toxins
from Necrosia and several unidentified other substances she'd ingested while on
her vision quest.

The following day, Khan Suvorov ordered a half-wrecked Striker battlemech
pulled out of a cache - the same 'Mech that Loremaster Scott had piloted in her
first assignment as a warrior. This was presented to the scientists as the
basis for the Goliath Scorpion's new OmniMech.

Having served with the SLDF for almost its entire history, the Striker provided
a solid base for upgrades with plenty of available space in the torso for
modern technology to be fitted.


Capabilities:
The first step by the Scorpions was to rebuild the internal structure of the
'Mech with endosteel, basing it off the frame of the discontinued Naga
OmniMech. Originally they planned to fit the same tonnage of armour as the
original, simply upgrading to modern alloys  but this was found to overstress
the frame. In the end, the Strike Hawk carries a full ton less protection -
although with the new Forging SA772 armour this still leaves it better
protected overall.

The first three configurations of the Strike Hawk all use the same basic
concept: a large energy weapon in each side torso, a ballistic weapon in the
left arm and the right arm unarmed. Secondary weapons are mounted in the head
and centre chest. In all cases ammunition is limited to what can be stored in
the left arm, keeping it well away from the engine and the torso weapon-bays.

The Prime is closest to the original STC-2C with an ER PPC and Large Pulse
Laser in the chest and an LB 10-X in the arm. ER Medium Lasers provide
supporting fire.

The Strike Hawk A ups the left arm firepower with an Ultra AC/20 and two tons
of armour. The secondary armament becomes Medium Pulse Lasers flanked by ER
Large Lasers.

In the B Configuration the Strike Hawk brings two ER PPCs and a Gauss Rifle to
bear although the chest lasers have to be reduced to small lasers to
accomodated the needed heatsinks.

The C Configuration seeks to fill the space left by the Naga, with a pair of
Arrow IV artillery missile launchers and four tons of ammunition. The torso
weapons return to the Prime's medium lasers and an ECM pod is added to one leg.

The Strike Hawk D goes back to the usual layout with a Large Pulse Laser and ER
Large Laser flanking three ER Small Lasers. This is the only jumping
configuration and an A-pod is fitted to one leg. The left arm armament is three
LB 2-X autocannon, making this a tolerable anti-helicopter platform although
they've also been useful against vehicles and damaged BattleMechs.

Another Naga-based entry. I hate it when separate minds think too much alike

More Striker than Naga. The Endosteel is adapted from the Naga to fit into the Striker chassis. Granted, the Arrow IV configuration does go back to the Naga but any reasonably sized omnimech could do as much.

Thunder Hawk

Overview:

For the latest entry into the Quicksilver Program Khan Perigard Zalman and SaKhan Christoper Ahmed in an effort to not waste resources quickly cast their gaze upon the Steel Vipers old Battlemech design the Phoenix Hawk IIC.   Still under limited production, mostly for spare parts, the factory lines tied directly to the key components were often idle due to the sheer lack of demand.  In addition the Khans took the chance of the Quicksilver Program to test out new variant of the older Battlemech design, switching to a cheaper less resource intensive standard fusion engine that would provide an affordable Assault to garrison worlds in the Inner Sphere. 


Conversion of the endo-steel chassis from a Battlemech to an Omni mech was not without its challenges, but the Scientists pushed onwards to the most critical decision of the Thunder Hawks design.     What fusion engine would it mount?

SaKhan Ahmed, who after several pleasant evenings with the increasingly tense Khan Ariel Survov of the Goliath Scorpions came through a shipment of Pitban 320's to New Kent alongside a good number of communications and targeting systems that the Scorpions produced for the Kodiak.   In honor of the Scorpion SaKhan Posavatz, who according to Ahmed had fought alongside him for hours in the horrors of the Devil's Baths, the Goliath Scorpions were being brought on board as secondary partners for the new Omni Mech.  Khan Zalman quickly noted that Ahmed had secured tens of millions of Kerensky's worth of war material on a speculative bargain and was well pleased.

A rather vicious predator the Thunder Hawk of New Kent is notorious both for its aggression against other birds (up to and including Jade Falcons) and its utter lack of fear for humanity.   The last has lead to a number of incidents where these territorial birds viewed apartment tower balconies as ideal places to build nests much to the dismay of the Labor Caste living in said apartments.

Capabilities

Capable of achieving running speeds of 64 km/h thanks to the Pitban 320 fusion engine, the Thunder Hawk is built around a variant of the endo steel chassis of the Phoenix Hawk IIC.    The largest alteration to the chassis was to increase the mounting points for armor which as increased to 12.5 tons of Ferro Fibrous armor, much of its general look remains the same.    No additional double heak sinks however were added to the Pitban 320

Instead of permanently mounting jump jets the Thunder Hawk maximized pod space at 34 tons, leaving room for additional weapons, heat sinks, or other equipment.   

The Primary configuration of the Thunder Hawk is based off of the PXH-1b, featuring a gun pod mounted ER PPC in the right arm, a centre torso large pulse laser, and four medium pulse lasers.   This is not a machine that will run out of ammo, and to keep it cool 8 additional heatsinks were fitted in pod spaces.   Combined with the jump jets capable of distances of up to 120 meters and the ECM and Active Probe make this a hard hitting, capable machine of controlling its battle space.

Alpha configuration is straight forward and simple.   2 Gauss Rifles with 24 shots a piece, and an ER Large Laser make it a cold running machine that focuses on a few powerful weapons. 

Beta echoes the Thug with matching pairs of ER PPCs and Streak SRM6's (with a single ton of ammo a-piece), and backed up by a pair of medium pulse lasers.   Keeping this machine cool are ten additional freezers to keep this machine ice cold.

Gamma is a dedicated anti air platform armed with LBX2s mounted over top Large Pulse Lasers in each arm with a war load of two tons slug and cluster ammunition.  What makes this design so deadly accurate is the targeting computer.  A fore and rear facing small pulse laser in the centre torso are there to discourage infantry powered or not.

Delta is a Goliath Scorpion variant of Beta, that swaps the ER PPCs for ER Larger Lasers saving weight (and heat).   In exchange it mounts jump jets, an active Probe and a cutting edge ECM Suite.  One medium Pulse laser is swapped out for two ER medium Lasers to increase damage.
