Another Predacon?

Dark Steel just sounded cool, I did not realize there was a Predacon named that....

*reasearches*

well *BLEEP* me

I had to research that myself. I do not think I own the Predacons Generation 1 but I do have the Terrorcons. This was around the time my toy interest was waning. Think I have the rest of the Decepticon Combiners.

Nah, I'm good. It's just a quad that won't even come close to winning due to its paltry 36 tons of pod space with it's 4/6 movement and it literally leaves no mnything else. I'll post it after this contest runs its course.

Quads might be better suited to the Zombie category then the Vampire or Werewolf up in the Assault weight regions. However you could go in another direction movement wise.  ;)

A Zombie means you're moving 3/5, while Vampire or werewolf gets you the XL and 4/6. All three types would have to have standard chassis and armor to maximize crit space.

Not true what so ever! The movement minimum is for Zombies and Vampires who do not focus on speed. The Monster Doctrine essentially calls for the Clans to field OmniMechs based on the battlefield trinity in order to maximize combat performance. The Werewolf (Speedster) is all about speed and as such should be the fastest design possible for its mass. Zombies are defensively focused and maximize protection (armor) above else, essentially with their Standard Engine they are difficult to destroy. Vampires (Assailants) focus on offensive at the expense of all else (armor and speed) meaning pod space is maximized to carry the most weaponry (biggest arsenal) possible.

If I made a quad that went 3/5 and it was filling the Werewolf role, I would run out of pod space to mount weapons as pod weight would reach 40 tons. I comes down to crit space, pure and simple. I'll post an example when I get ofter work and running errands. If you look at the Sabretooth I posted in a separate thread, I had to get really creative to use up all of the weight  as crits started to disappear. A quad at the Assault weight classes simply doesn't have the crits space to compete to mount the weight left over. If I did a quad version of Drakensis' 47-ton pod Fearsome I would be leaving wasted tons on the shop floor with every configuration. I would be forced to with a standard 3/5-capable engine or go with 4/6 XL just to keep the pod-weight manageable for a Vampire

I hear ya brother. It is difficult without those arm internals (16 critical space at least disappear) to fit in Vampire level weaponry and equipment cause you need space as well as tons. Quads work better as Zombies cause you get better armor levels and higher survivability then Bipeds or at least it is a closer competition. Might be interesting if we did some Werewolf Quad research cause your dealing with lesser tonnage like a Zombie and lesser internal space.

Here's a 3/5 SFE version of the Sabretooth called the Daggertooth. It has tonnage leftover using the same configurations.

Yup I saw Abele. I'll give you a full review once the contest has concluded.

Nice fluff JP. That gives us 4 entries thus far.

Even with bipeds, I was able to allocate far more tonnage to pod-space than I could to criticals. An earlier iteration to the Fearsome had over 50 tons of pod-space but I really struggled for crit space.

Did you remove lower arm and hand actuators? That would give you 4 more crits to play with. Again something Quads can not do. Using too small an XL engine penalizes you with less free double heat sinks and EndoSteel/Ferro Fibrous start taking up alot of space too. Trade offs I suppose.

That only happens at 80 ton level when using a 240 XL. Once you get to 85 tons that lone heat sink goes into the engine and frees up the two crits, which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. With the need for crits in the assault class it's best to choose either endo or ferro, not both. 7 crits is alot of space when you are dealing with 40+ tons of pod space.

I did indeed remove those. It's necessary to keep a firm eye on which weapons to use - ammo and heatsinks are low tonnage/critical ratio so it's important to keep a high ton/crit ratio for weapons (ER PPCs and LPLs have 3/1 ratio but need heatsinks which are 1/2... etc). This is where ballistic weapons start to make more sense compared to missiles - at least for Clan designs.

Well I would love to comment further but I do not want to influence any future designs.

We have got 4 so far and I am looking for more!

Lunar Kestrel

"Fighting Spheroids by moonlight!"
"Winning  Trials by daylight!"
"Never running from a zell fight"
"She's the one known as Battlemoon Kestrel!"

-  Unknown Clan Wolf Scientist upon reviewing the Lunar Kestrel design

Clan Wolf Watch Report 89303-05103052

IlKhan Kerensky.

The Lunar Kestrel is a Snow Raven entry in the current Quicksilver design trial,  however there are several strong indicators that the Snow Ravens have received a great deal of support from the Jade Falcons with this bid.    Key design features greatly resemble those found in the Night Gyr and Turkina Omnimechs leading to indicators that the same design teams worked on the Lunar Kestrel.  Additionally the presence of the Jade Falcons new Laser Heat Sinks are another strong indicator of co-operation between the two Clans.

Apart from the new custom chassis many of the components are drawn from existing designs, particularly the Mad Dog and the Viper.     Having acquired production rights and details for the Standard 320 XL used by the Viper from Clan Ghost Bear in trade for a Star of Mad Dogs and Kit Foxs  the Snow Ravens are well pleased by their deal.   In turn the majority of the electronics including both the communications as well as the targeting and tracking systems are re-used from the Mad Dog.     Additional Ferro-Fibrous armor is re-purposed from the Kit Fox.

The most radical departure however is the inclusion of a full head ejection system.   Project notes indicate that the decision to incorporate this new ejection system was to increase survival of Mechwarriors in hostile environments.    Only fifteen Technicians died during orbital testing of the new ejection system, and no Warriors were harmed during later trials due to ejection (one however died after deliberate targeting following ejection).

In general the Lunar Kestrel is very much inspired by the Maltex Thug, being an upright bipedal Omnimech.    A fast Assault design, with fully half of its mass devoted to pod space and over twelve and half tons of Ferro Fibrous armor the Lunar Kestrel might well have hit the place where speed, armor and weapons come together.

Prime Config:     Building of the Thug, the primary configuration sports an impressive armament of 2 ER Kingston DDS PPC's and two Streak SRM6's that each have a ton of ammo.  The secondary weapon suite is an impressive 6 medium pulse lasers along with ECM and an Active Probe to deal with any stravag Spheroid tricks.   An er medium laser is mounted to fire at the rear to catch any light mech trying to back-stab it.    16 heat sinks attempt to keep this config cool, however as an Alpha Strike would overwhelm this configuration a computer lockout has been installed requiring a verbal code override.

Alpha Config:  A much cooler running variation Alpha features twin Ultra AC 10's with 30 shots each, leaving it with solid battlefield endurance.   When conserving ammo an ER PPC installed in the centre torso along with a duo of ER medium lasers beside it provide additional firepower.   A head mounted ECM unit provides additional support, with 16 laser heat sinks installed to cool this mech off.

Beta Config:  A very cold running design Beta packs a mean long distance punch with only four weapons in total.   Pairs of Gauss Rifles and ER Large Lasers enable this config to fight effectively at over 600 meters on the modern battlefield.   Each arm mounted Gauss Rifle has 24 shots giving it tremendous endurance,  while the torso mounted ER Large Lasers are cooled by twelve laser heatsinks.  A head mounted ECM suite is included.

Gamma Config:  Drawing heavily from the Warhawk Prime Gamma features a pair of ER Large Lasers mounted in the left and right arm pods, along with an under-mounted Medium Er Laser and Medium Pulse Laser respectively.    A LRM10 is mounted in the left torso feed by two tons of ammo giving it a great deal of endurance.   A Targeting Computer is mounted in the right torso to make the fire deadly accurate.   A Light Active Probe is mounted in the head.

Delta Config:  Delta Config is very much an acknowledgement that the Timber Wolf Prime is an effective and desirable design.  Large Pulse Lasers are paired up with an ER Medium Laser in each arm pod with an under-slung machine gun.   An LRM20 with Art IV is installed in the left and right torso, each feed by two tons of ammo.   In the head an AMS unit degrades enemy missile fire, while a medium pulse laser can be found in the centre torso.  Fifteen laser heat sinks keep this Omni cool, an Alpha strike would overwhelm this mech however with careful weapon selection Warriors can keep it running cold.

Space Config:   Included as an experiment in equipping Warriors to fight in zero-G and in outer space, the Space Config features four re-purposed altitude control thrusters feed by a fuel tank of four tons of hydrogen.  Armed with two Large Pulse Lasers (one in either arm), two Streak SRM6 launchers (in either torso) feed by a ton of ammo each (stored in the centre torso), and a small pulse laser below each SRM6 launcher.   A Targeting Computer aids warriors placing shots in the challenging environment while an ECM suite and Active probe round out the Space Configs electronics.

Notes indicate that an ambitious Freebirth Warrior called a Trial against a Point of Snow Raven ASF Pilots using the Space Config.   Held in one of the Lum systems asteroid fields said Warrior surprised many by lasting nearly fifteen minutes with adept zero-g piloting.    He still however lost soundly, a reminder that in Space ASF reign supreme and his fully operational full head ejection system was deliberately targeted and destroyed.
