Nice job on the Sparrow, keep those entries coming gang!

It was fairly easy when I realized my first version of the Sparrow was literally the Locust IIC with 0.5 ton more of FF.

Because why not go with building an Omni version of a solid clan IIC

Solid reasoning, yup the Sparrow resembles the Locust IIc very much.

Five entries in so far,

Wind Claw (drakensis)
Allard (JP Arbiter)
Red Death (masterarminas)
Shadow Marmoset (Abele)
Sparrow (fitzgerald)

Can't wait for more!! ;)

Well for the third time my friends we’ve come to the conclusion of yet another Clan design contest. The six entries in this challenge were top notch. I am really liking the progression of the designs and how they just keep getting better. A lot of innovative engineering went on and the boundaries themselves came under fire. Can’t say how intrigued I was by this development which is really cool, hope we see it again. Perhaps the most impressive was the resourcefulness displayed by those who tapped into available materials. Nice job all around and for the results!

The Blood Chalcas by Lord Grayson was nicely done. This Burrock entry whose 7/11 speed plus a MASC had an impressive eight tons of pod space. Some of the weapon configurations left me scratching my head especially Prime being an LB-2X and I wasn’t as high on the dezgra configuration as JP but it was another interesting inclusion for this contest. Still not too shabby LG.

The Shadow Marmoset entered by Abele used the Firefly for inspiration and really set out to be a dependable Omni. Created by Kindraa Payne with assistance from Beyl-Grant I liked how it used the Firefly for inspiration. Bottom level 6/9 speed was somewhat of a drawback but a MASC with seven and a half tons of pod space ain’t all that bad. What I thought was the biggest negative was the name which I just didn’t care for. These minor drawbacks don’t detract from a good concept. Nice stuff.

Somewhat shockingly I had to place the Red Death by masterarminas in fourth place. The fluff was once again excellent and this Quad Zombie Omni put forth by the Blood Spirit/ Fire Mandrill alliance was worthy of medaling. I like the eight tons of pod space but the 6/9 bottom end speed was a negative. All that said this was a really good one but three entries I felt were just better. Sorry MA.

Once again finishing in third place is drakensis with his Wind Claw design. This Goliath Scorpion design moves at 7/11 and includes a fixed Clan ECM for added defensive. What I found neat was just the idea of taking the Mist Lynx and taking those jump jets off. I liked the idea of using this existing chassis to create a cheap but effective Zombie. The fluff was very solid and it’s a good overall design. Unfortunately I felt there were to that were better so its bronze again drak.

JP you keep coming so close! Unfortunately it is second prize once again my friend. The Allard, whose name in honor of the Vanquisher of the Falcon Guards, I love by the way is a truly innovative design. The turret was a concern for me as such machines don’t really exist, at least that much but that isn’t the real problem. 5/8 is just too damn slow! The pod space is nice and I love how it fits the turret but to the Clans who favor speed so much and especially on a light machine you need to be a touch faster. Unconventional and highly innovative yes but just not good enough for the top spot.

Congratulations go to fitzgerald who won this contest with his simple and effective Sparrow design. I really love its speed and the fact it is based so closely on the Locust IIc which because of its unseen appearance has almost been forgotten. If Clan technicians can come up with an Omni kit for existing BattleMechs such an engineering concept is brilliant. To a certain extent I think this will be possible but certain older more used models are likely unable for such an upgrade. Making such an effective use of existing assets even though your fluff wasn’t as good as others really got you to the top. Excellent concept and I also like how the top two designs are once again from rival Clans, a fact which I plan to include in the finished product. Well done!

This was a real good one and I’m looking forward to the next competition which should start tomorrow folks. See ya then!!

For those of you playing at home, since Drakensis seems to be on an Olympic kick (i.e., gold, silver, and bronze) here are the latest standings:

Master Arminas:  2 Gold, 0 Silver, 0 Bronze
Fitzgerald:  1 Gold, 0 Silver, 0 Bronze
JPArbiter:  0 Gold, 2 Silver, 0 Bronze
Lord Grayson:  0 Gold, 1 Silver, 0 Bronze
Drakensis:  0 Gold, 0 Silver, 3 Bronze

So far, Drakensis leads the medal count with a total of 3, trailed by Master Arminas and JPArbiter with two apiece.  Fitzgerald and Lord Grayson follow with a single medal each.

MA

EDIT:  And . . . by the way.  I am ready to post the 30-ton Zombie whenever Tak begins the competition.  This one, ladies and gentlemen, is a WINNER.  I think.  ;)

I'm looking forward toi the 35-ton Speedster myself as I have an interesting ride planned there. I've got a 30-ton zombie design done, it just needs fluff
