Okay folks we are back to the hum drum ranks of creating Light Clan Zombie OmniMechs. Remember please I’m trying to get as many designers involved as possible so one entry per designer until or unless I say otherwise. I appreciate the enthusiasm for these contests and I really hope it continues. Despite some critics I really think these machines are a valuable tool in the Clan arsenal. Your participation in this venture is valued by me above all and once again I’d like to thank everyone for helping to make these great challenges complete.

Looking back I think we’ve done a nice job.  We got started with the 20 ton Nightcrawler which moved at 7/11 and had 5.5 tons of pod space. Then went to the 25 ton Sparrow that goes 8/12 and has 6 tons of pod space before going to the 30 ton Gremlin with 7/11 speed and    8.5 tons of pod space. It is an interesting assortment of sturdy light weight machines that should provide the Clans with a needed boost in material numbers. Yeah I know the Clans aren’t into quantity over quality but they have a whole lot of new worlds to garrison and patrol so to me such an outgrowth is very necessary.

This time around we are looking for a 35 ton Zombie, so please no extra light engines, only standard power plants. The movement minimum of 6/9 remains in effect for this light OmniMech. I can’t however recommend that designers should up the speed as the weight benefit is rapidly disappearing with the heavier designs. Speed is armor yes but this machine may be better off with more armor than speed, you’ll have to decide. Remember that survivability above all, low costs, ease of production, and use of existing material are also benefits here.

Since Burrock has won two of these contests which have stretched their industrial capabilities already I’d like to see a Clan other than them design and produce this OmniMech. We have five other Clans (Blood Spirit, Cloud Cobra, Fire Mandrill, Goliath Scorpion, Steel Viper) that would make excellent choices. If you give me a Burrock submission this time around there better be a great reason included in the fluff. Likewise other Clans disdain these Zombie designs.

While some Clans will use these OmniMechs in front line service others will relegate them to second or third line service at best. This means some Clans may possibly hold them in reserve as replacement for down equipment, training or testing gear, and even lesser roles. These Clans should not be the ones designing such equipment so when your creating this Zombie keep this in mind. As always tell me which Clan built and why? It doesn’t mention other Clans helping or challenging for possession either. Here again is a list of which Clans prefer what equipment in 3052.

I’m still hoping to do a Technical Readout 3059 for this setting and when I do the winners shall appear in this fanbook. This work would not only follow the progression of Clan equipment in this alternate setting but the InnerSphere’s as well. I’m really looking forward to the day when this piece is complete.

I still prefer that entries are presented in some kind of design program like Heavy Metal Pro cause it makes things easier on me. Clan Steel Viper is a clan in flux.  some in the leadership, like Pergard Zallman, see the Inner Sphere as an unexpected and welcome challenge to the might of the clans, and to the Vipers as a whole.  Others like Brett Andrews, see the Inner Sphere as a diseased cesspit worthy of nothing short of total annihilation.

Natalie Breen was different.  though defeated as a Khan, she saw the truth, the Clans were going to lose to the Inner Sphere if they continued along their current path.  Though The Clans possessed a distinct technology advantage over the Inner Sphere, the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine Mustered Solidery proved significantly more clever then any clan commander had given them credit for.  as each wave continued, victories proved more and more costly, and the technology advantage was rapidly disappearing.  even if all twenty Clans  invaded the Inner Sphere simultaneously; Victory as envisioned by the Crusader Clans was impossible.

After she stepped down form Khanship in 3052, Natalie kept herself occupied by observing numerous BattleROM's of the Battles of Tukkyid, and though never meeting in person, she regularly Corresponded with Khan's Phelan Kell and Natasha Kerensky, as well as Star Captain Ragnar.  she quietly petitioned her successor, Perigard Zallman to influence other clans to boost Trueborn Creche production, and even argued that Viper Training standards were too strict, with 15 sibkos produced in 3051 only generating six graduated between them.

most telling though was her presentation of Omnimech Blueprints that were meant to create "A Machine that had all of the adaptability of any true frontline Omnimech, but built to tackle the Inner Sphere where the Clans will be weakest, at our own Military failings."  thus the Steel Viper Omnimech was born.

Much Like the Battle Cobra, the Steel Viper utilized an Endo Steel Frame and Ferro Fiberous armor, but precludeds the use of an Extra Light Engine.  six tons of Ferro Fibrous armor provide excellent protection to the arms and torso, though the legs could be susceptible to breach from the heaviest of clan weaponry.  Base line heat dissipation is the usual standard ten heat sinks.  8 of those are the typical high yeild heat recyclers that are found in a typical fusion engine, with two excess Double Heat sinks routed in the feet of the Steel Viper for additional coolin in strategic rivers and ponds.

the Primary Configuration takes cues from the Battlemech that time and again has proven to be a nightmare in the hands of a skilled operator, the Wolfhound.  four Pulse lasers, one large and three mediums make up the entire armament of the mech, giving the Steel Viper endurance  and accuracy to pulverize any foe.

Alternate Configuration A is designed to the hunting of more conventional forces that the ComGuard made extensive use of at Tukkyid.  a single LB-10 X Autocannon provides the ability to shred conventional armor and decimate even elemtnal points.  lack of secondary armament is a serious concern with this vehicle, only counteracted by starmates covering it.

Alternate Configuration B is a Calvary vehicle designed to tackle rough terrain.  a large pulse laser is protected in the torso of the Viper, while an double barreled ER medium Laser arraignment permits some wide arc coverage at decent range.

Configuration C is a true garrison and multi threat machine that could anchor an entire star of widely configured Steel Vipers.  an ER Large Laser and LRM 10 provide long range fire for the Mech.  as the opposition gets closer an ER Medium and Small laser contribute and a Streak SRM 4 can provide a coupe de Gras.  as a last resort, this configuration still possesses both hands, permitting hand to hand combat if need be.

Configuration D is meant to provide long range bombardment close to supply lines.  though it only possesses enough ammunition for a minute of sustained fire, forty long range missiles a volley is the nominal firepower of a mech twice it's size.  given the D is mean to guard supply lines or provide close support to other machines (and according to footnotes in Breen's presentation deployed in pairs) the lack of ammunition is not a great concern.

Configuration E is designed to repel both aircraft and ground vehicles, disabling or deterring them before they every get a chance to fire back.  in simulations, though no "Kills" were scored, Star Colonel Breen showed that a Steel Viper Echo could disable up to a companies worth of hovercraft commonly deployed by the AFFC before they got a chance to engage thanks to penetrating shots made by LB-X Cluster rounds at nearly a kilometer distant. Three Steel Viper Echos in comparison, were able to hold off the Gunzberg Eagles entirely in a recreation of their famous support run on Rasalhauge in 3050, permitting Wolf Forces to continue their assault undamaged and unhindered.

The Final Steel Viper is a "Micro Flashman" that was developed to act as an escort and close support unit to assault mech stars.  designed to wander from star  to star, the F Configuration would intercept ambushing Armor, infantry, and Battle Armor, vaporizing it at point blank range much as the Flashman did with light mechs during the Star League days

despite her reduced status both within her own clan, and to the Council of the Khans, Natalie Breen Proudly stamped her name on this project, as well as the scientists and Mechwarriors who consulted her.  she presented it to her rival Khan Zalman shortly after the Quicksilver program was announced.

Actually all 3 designs are very very similar stat-wise. But Steel Vipers, referencing the Wolfhound... arrrrgh! Very frustrating.

Overview:
Looking to exploit their new Occupation Zone, the Steel Vipers looked for ways
to upgrade the Trellshire Heavy Industries factory on Twycross. While fully
capable of building heavy and assault 'Mechs (and equipped with the latest
technology of the Inner Sphere), the Scientist Caste suggested not entrusting
the recent acquisition with outright production of Clan technology.


Instead the factory's role is to combine parts scavenged from the battlefields
of the Clan Invasion with those shipped from the Clan Homeworlds and locally
built electronics. The latter now includes Clan ECM, indicating increasing
awareness of the importance of this factor on the battlefield.


Their current project merges the chassis of the Adder OmniMech with reactors
taken from salvaged AFFC Wolfhounds. The Coral Snake is appearing in garrison
clusters already although the Inner Sphere didn't notice at first, believing
they were simply dealing with the 'Mechs they call Adders. They've codenamed
the design 'Water Viper'.


Capabilities:
The Coral Snake mirrors the parent design very closely, although the larger
engine loses the 'Mech about a third of its pod-space. In addition, the Water
Viper replaces the chest-mounted Flamer with Electronic CounterMeasures, found
to be helpful as AFFC units begin to make more use of C3 systems obtained from
the DCMS. The ECM was included as a tribute to the camouflage capability of the
Arcadian coral snakes the design is named for.


The Primary configuration swaps the Adder's PPCs for large lasers. This reduces
the weight but also the heat burden sharply. Some Mechwarriors indicate the
lower heat and greater range make it preferable to the Adder Prime.


The A configuration is the first missile-heavy configuration, scaling the
missile pods down to 10-tubes and adding additional targeting electronics. This
doesn't quite make up for the loss of firepower but maintains the reach and
endurance, making it marginally acceptable to Mechwarriors.


Losing spare tonnage forced the B configuration to shed the Adder's autocannon
but a LRM-5 with artemis targeting is a reasonable substitute and the success
against unpredictable Spheroid warriors has led the Adders to re-visit the
Adder B as a well-rounded design.


Another fire support configuration, the C configuration uses NARC to mark a
target before backing off to use the uncannily accurate LRMs in its four
launchers.


D configuration loses the autocannon once again, in favour of two LRM launchers
this time. The ER large laser and Streak Missiles provide the backbone of the
Water Viper D's firepower.


The only entirely original configuration, the E, provides a much-needed
jump-jet option as well as an all laser armament that suggests the Steel
Viper's steam-bath experience on Tukkayid has re-acquainted with the need for
an ammunition free and low-heat unit.


Battle History:
Coral Snakes have seen minor action up and down the Steel Viper Occupation Zone
since their deployment, usually in counter-insurgent roles or facing Inner
Sphere raiders. An entire Star in E configuration were used for an amphibious
assault on insurgents on Twycross itself after Operation Scorpion left the
Steel Viper hold on the world endangered. Believing the 'Adders' wouldn't have
jump jets, the insurgents relied on rough coastal terrain to try to escape,
only to see the Coral Snakes hop easily over the barriers.

FIRE ANT

Overview
Why any scientist assigned to the Star League Defense Force would seek to genetically manipulate and then release into the wild a new strain of solenopsis xyloni (aka, the fire ant species native to the southern provinces of North America) remains a mystery, but c'est la vie.

On Circe, one scientist did just that.  Fascinated with ant species of all kinds, the Circian Fire Ant was just one of nearly two hundred species that he had created and planned to distribute throughout the Pentagon and the Kerensky Cluster.  His hopes were dashed, however, when after a dozen Warriors of Clan Mongoose were swarmed by the (now FAR larger) insects and fatally envenomed.

As the species had never before been encountered, Khan Mitchell Loris ordered his own scientists to investigate; the new species was found to have a rapidly expanding range . . . but nearly in the dead center of that range was the isolated complex where the scientist (whose name has been removed from history) did his work.

Mongoose Warriors stormed the complex and upon discovering the menagerie of horrific insects that the madman had created, they incinerated the complex . . . with the scientist and his creations locked inside.  But the damage had already been done and despite desperate attempts to control this invasive species, the Circian Fire Ant has thrived and multiplied.

The Fire Ant was selected by Kindraa Leader Garret Sainze as the name for his entry into the 35-ton category of Project Quicksilver.

Development
Never a wealthy Clan, the divided Fire Mandrills exacerbated this by bickering among themselves.  The inability of the Kindraa to act in unison has prevented the Clan (as a whole) from producing and developing many of the OmniMechs in common use in their Touman . . . forcing the Kindraas to purchase OmniMechs from the Sharks or launch Trials of Possession to gain much needed equipment.

Neither option was much favored by Garret Sainze.  When ilKhan Kerensky announced the project, Sainze began a series of meetings with his Chief Scientist and senior Mandrill Bloodnamed of his Kindraa.  In desperate need of a new low-cost OmniMech (so that more advanced war-machines could be assigned to the Kindraa's front-line forces), these leaders selected the 35-ton 'Zombie' category as the slot to produce their entry.

Garret Sainze was absent from the meeting when this decision was made . . . but upon his return he considered it to be a means to honor the first Khan (and founder) of Clan Fire Mandrill:  Raymond Sainze.  This samurai from the Draconis Combine had been one of Kerensky's volunteers . . . and Aleksandry Kerensky himself had asked Sainze to join the SLDF on the Exodus.

More than that, Sainze had piloted one of the Combine's most noteworthy decisions . . . the JR7-D Jenner.

Noting that the Jenner was also 35-tons, Kindraa Leader Sainze turned the entire project into a means to honor the Founder.  The new Fire Ant would be true to its lineage, and yet remain an OmniMech, something that Jenner IIC produced by Clan Nova Cat was not.  Not to mention that the new design would be far less costly with its standard engine than the Nova Cat second-line BattleMech with its extra-light engine.

Some scientists on the design team argued that demanding a walking speed of 75.6 kilometers per hour would detract from pod-space . . . others pointed out that the difference was a mere three tons and that the increased speed would be needed in a light garrison unit such as the proposed Fire Ant.

But in the end, the committee agreed with Sainze and a 245-rate standard fusion engine was selected.  Unfortunately, Kindraa Sainze soon found themselves in a quandary.  The Clan archives (and the Kindraa archives) contained no design schematics or blue-prints for the old Jenner . . . or even the Nova Cat's Jenner IIC.  Nor did Kindraa Sainze possess a factory that produced the 245-rate engine or one large enough to be converted to production of the future Fire Ant.

Reluctantly, Sainze turned to Master of Instruction Nicholas Djerassi of Clan Goliath Scorpion and asked him for his assistance.

Intrigued by the project, Djerassi lobbied Khan Ariel Suvorov into supporting Kindraa Sainze . . . in exchange, if the design was accepted, then the Scorpions would have full production rights.  BUT, Djerassi warned, neither the Scorpions nor the Mandrills had the liquid funds or resources necessary to complete the project and outfit a production factory.  It would be necessary to bring in a third Clan . . . or do the unthinkable.

In July of 3052, Kindraa Leader Sainze held a private meeting with Khan Elias Critchell of Clan Jade Falcon; his offer to share the project was met with a stern rebuke, leaving Sainze with but one option.  He took out a loan from the Falcon bankers.

Securing enough resources and funding to complete the project, Sainze was also faced with a strict repayment schedule . . . and the Falcons demanded (as the Scorpions had done so prior) that if his design was a success, their Clan would have full production rights . . . without paying any royalties to Kindraa Sainze.

Wincing at the terms of the contract, Sainze nonetheless agreed and soon hard currency and fresh resources was flowing into the Sainze compound on Shadow.

With the assistance of Scorpion historians and engineers, the design team made rapid progress.  In order to achieve the necessary speed (while using a standard fusion engine), the design would require using an Endo-Steel II internal skeleton and the protective armor would have to be formed from Ferro-Fibrous plating.  Six tons were set aside, giving the Fire Ant 96.63% of maximum coverage for a 35-ton bipedal OmniMech design.  Double-strength heat sinks were mandatory with the base ten included in the core chassis.

Nine tons remained for pod-space on the design, which was progressing rapidly in computer simulations.  In August, Sainze ordered construction to begin on the first five prototypes . . . these had to be constructed by hand as work on the factory had only just broken ground.  Still, the configurations needed to be structured, assembled, and tested . . . and indications were that this phase would not be complete until October at the earliest.

Configurations
The Fire Ant Prime closely resembles the Jenner piloted by Raymond Sainze during the Amaris Coup (and that he continued to pilot under after Operation Klondike).  Each arm (lacking lower arm and hand actuators and so able to 'flip') carried two lasers:  an ER Medium and an ER Small.  Two missile racks (both six-tube SRMs) were fitted to the center torso, fed by a common ton of ammunition (for a total of fifteen missile salvoes).  This heavy SRM battery potentially made the Fire Ant Prime extremely lethal against vehicles . . . and the prospect of a 'golden BB' in every salvo of a dozen missiles warmed the cold recesses of Garrett Sainze's heart.  The Scorpion contributors argued for the installation of a one-ton Targeting Computer, and graciously the Kindraa leader allowed them to install one in the cockpit.  The final ton was used for one additional double-strength heat sink.

Configuration A was to be armed with the most effective weapon in the Clan inventory:  an Extended-Range PPC in the right arm, supported an ER Medium Laser in the left arm.  An 11th DHS was installed to allow the design to run heat neutral, and an ECM Suite mounted in the cockpit to provide additional protection.

Configuration B has two sub-variants, differing only in the electronics suites.  Both are armed with four Medium Pulse Lasers (two in the center torso and one each in the right and left arms).  The model B-1 is outfitted with an Active Probe, while B-2 instead carries an ECM Suite.  Intended for assignment to garrison forces, the number of highly accurate pulse lasers helps to negate the lower quality of Warriors assigned to such units.  Despite the intentions of the Clan Scientists (and Kindraa Leader Sainze), Configuration B-1 and B-2 have proven very popular amongst even Warriors assigned to front-line units who praise its simplicity and sense of lethal purpose.

Configuration C returns to a missile-heavy theme, with a center-torso mounted LRM-15 launcher fed by two tons of ammunition (sixteen missile salvoes, one ton each in the right and left torsos).  Each arm carries an ER Medium Laser, while the right arm is also fitted with a TAG artillery designator system.  The left arm carries a Flamer to assist in anti-personnel operations as well.  Although Kindraa Sainze only rarely uses artillery, Garrett Sainze personally insisted upon the addition of the TAG after reviewing battle-ROMs of Tukayyid in detail.

Another Scorpion based design, Configuration D features the ER Medium/ER Small Laser combo of the Prime in each arm.  But this time, the missile battery has been replaced with an ER Large Laser.  A two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso ensure accuracy, but with just ten double-strength heat sinks, the cooling systems are overburdened on a full running Alpha Strike.  Still, this configuration possess outstanding firepower, is quite accurate, and has an extended reach.

The final configuration is the Fire Ant E.  This version adds seven jump jets (three right torso, three left torso, one center torso) to the chassis for a 210-meter jump capability.  Armament consists of two ER Medium Lasers (right arm/left arm) and an SRM-6 launcher in the center torso fed by a single ton of ammunition.  Both lasers are tied into a head-mounted one-ton Targeting Computer to compensate (in part) for reduced accuracy when jumping.

Deployment
Although the prototype development process took far longer than Kindraa Leader Sainze would have preferred, by December of 3052, the first shipment of hand-built Fire Ants had arrived on Strana Mechty for testing and evaluation.  So far, Warriors assigned to the new OmniMech have been pleased with the speed, armor protection, and firepower giving Kindraa Sainze high marks.  Unfortunately, quality control problems resulted in two of the five OmniMechs breaking down in the middle of testing . . . to which Kindraa Leader Sainze was apoplectic when told.  Eighty-seven Technicians and Laborers were executed, along with their families, to serve as an example to other civilians.

The ilKhan, on the other hand, dismissed the teething problems as exactly that, noting that NO prototype is ever developed in such a short period of time without experiencing some unforeseen difficulties.

In the meantime, Sainze and his Kindraa (and both the Scorpion and Falcon backers of the project) await the ilKhan's decision with great interest.  Interest that continues to daily accrue, much to the chagrin of Sainze.

I may be giving this one a pass, the 6/9 movement is a weight sink at this tonnage. I was working on designs in the 5/8/X movement range, so I won't bother with those and with three submits in the 6/9 range and one at the next higher, it's going to be a tough road to cross for me.

Minotaur

One can say many things of the early SLDF but short of institutional memory and without funds was not one of them.   In order to continually simulate the Re-unification War for training efforts the SLDF was faced with two choices, either build new factories for the Taurian's iconic mechs and ASF or using Battle ROM's from both sides of the conflict create detailed simulations and Expert computer programs to emulate the TDF.  A tough choice that the Purchasing Board debated long and hard over several taxpayer funded days in a very lovely resort hotel in Maui.

"The SLDF will acquire both," was the bold, decisive and more than a little tipsy decision after far too many Mai Tai's "and make the Taurian's pay for it all."

Three years later a much more sober and serious group of SLDF senior officers upon presentation of the now completed factories and Simulation exercises had the entire program mothballed and stored away.   They had no need for a Toro or Talos factory (far too likely to see production nicked) and the so called Expert system fought far harder and much more viciously than the Generals cared to remember the war going. 

So gathering dust and long forgotten the factory lines and simulation systems would have been forgotten about and lost entirely if it hadn't been for a diligent Major in the aftermath of Amaris's rebellion.   Major D. Grayson, assigned to the task of stripping any remaining SLDF stockpiles in the Terran Hegemony through a series of many memos, reports and more than a little tequila uncovered the cached lines and systems before having them promptly sealed up and shipped out on the Exodus.

Major's Grayson's fate isn't recorded, however obscurity seemed to be the fate of the over four centuries old equipment when a Goliath Scorpion Free Birth Mechwarrior who was Seeking on Dagda got lucky.   As in stumbling around blind drunk on PPCs in the hills of Dagda only to slip into the cave system where said material was stored lucky.   Mechwarrior Ali's only injury was a broken nose as he covered himself in glory with this most accidental find in 3049.

Ali died of alcohol poisoning in the aftermath of a truly excessive party in his honor.

Scorpion Warriors have had mixed reactions after trying their luck against the emulated TDF, with many shocked by the complete lack of honor shown along with the nearly rapid hatred shown by the TDF for the Star League and its forces.   A series of emulations to track down and destroy Colonel Roy Ferndale, along with actual recorded verbal exchanges, has proven thus far impossible to complete without loosing any Mechs.   Several Scorpion Techs developed  a patch that upgrades the units to include modern Clan weaponry, much to the chagrin of several warriors who exploited the limitations of Age of War weaponry.

Debate over what new design to convert the actual production lines to has been raging ever since in a low level debate / drinking game between the Warrior's of the Goliath Scorpions.   The Quicksilver program however has become a boon as the Khan's have ordered their Scientists to actually develop a new Omni Mech from the material at hand.

Project Minotaur was launched bleary eyed and hung over after several kegs of beer were demolished by the development team the night before.

Development

Working outwards from the Manga 175, the Scorpions Scientists saw no reason to pour  resources into building a new engine line when they already had a working one.  However it was quickly determined that the additional mobility of jump jets would be required to meet the mobility requirements.  To recover the mass lost to jumpjets required switching to both Endo Steel II and Ferro-Fiberous Armor.
 
Thus set the Scorpion Warriors, Scientists and Techs assigned to the project quickly determined that the Primary configuration would be based around the hard hitting ER PPC installed on the Minotaur's left arm, with an Artemis IV equipped LRM 5 launcher on either shoulder.  Feed by a ton of LRM ammo each it promised a long lasting warload.  Rounding out the weaponry was a small ER Laser mounted below the right arm to deal with infantry. 

Alpha Configuration features a very recognizable weapons layout, being a direct copy of the Wolverine Battlemech.   An Ultra AC 5 was installed in the left arm, feed by two tons of the ammo in the left torso.  The right torso features a shoulder mounted SRM6 feed by a single ton of ammo.   The right arm is equipped with an ER Medium Laser.

Beta Configuration sports an ER Large Laser in the left arm, and an ER ML in the right both supported by a Targeting Computer.  Rounding it out is a LRM 15 with ArtIV and two tons of ammo.  The nickname of "MinoGriff" proved popular in circles of Technicians who were wise enough never to mention their butchering of the English language in front of Warriors.

Gamma configuration was however a real departure and very much a vicious fighter for tight terrain.   While the Large Pulse Laser paired with the Medium Pulse Laser are not the most damaging combination of weapons, Scorpion Scientists view the combination of Active Probe, ECM and a head mounted AMS with two tons of ammo as a potent contender. 

Delta configuration was developed and programmed for Mech Warrior Karen and Scientist Louise in the wee hours of the morning much to the chagrin of sleeping Techs who weren't happy to be roused by the inerbriated pair.   Much to the Techs surprise Scientist Louise's programming and engineering actually worked producing a viable omni design.     With a trio of ER Medium Lasers assigned to each arm an additional five double heat sinks were added to keep the heat burden manageable.   To add even more heat to the fire three flamers, one in each torso and one dead centre were added to this short range configuration.   Alpha striking and jumping in this design is more than enough to cause a shut down and induce severe heatstroke much to Warrior Karen's personal dismay.

Deployment

Nestled in a Fjord on Dagda that is utterly un-accessible  by Mech thanks to the sheer mountain faces in the way, the production facility has churned out a number of Toro's and Talo's since 3050 for the purposes of training Mechs, with a few models upgraded to Clan tech for possible assignment to Seekers.    The switch over to the Minotaur was accomplished in fairly short order and a full Trinary has since been sent to Strana Mechty for testing.

The Talos line remains unchanged as yet.

Two more good entries however fitzgerald your gonna have to add something to your fluff as you violated the 6/9 minimum. Why would the ilKhan consider this proposal the design criteria? You gotta attempt to at least justify such a move.

Overview:
Created in the desert wilds of Babylon, the Dust Devil is the culmination of a
joint effort fostered by the Khans of the Goliath Scorpions and the Cloud
Cobras. With both Clans having shortages in resources and wishing to fulfill
the IlKhan's Quicksilver directive for the glory of their respective Clans. The
Dust Devil was originally pioneered by the scientists of the Goliath Scorpions
who were running into some difficulty in integrating the jump jets into the
Dust Devil's. Cloud Cobra scientists being well versed in aerospace technology
provided the necessary expertise in flight control systems that would allow the
Mechwarrior to maneuver the Dust Devil's four legs in flight.


Initial tests of the new controls proved difficult for the Scorpion test
pilots, but the Cobra pilots took to the Dust Devil's unique movement rather
quickly. When a Clan Coyote binary came to Trial for possession of the project
that the two clans were working on, two of the prototypes were included in the
defesive force. The two Dust Devils, a Prime and a Beta, gave a good accounting
of themselves as they each took down a Coyote warrior and confounded the rest
of the binary with their aerobatics and their apparent erratic movement. In the
Coyotes lost the Trial and were granted hegira back to their enclave,


Variants:
The Prime configuration, like the Gamma, is a favorite amongst the Goliath
Scorpion test pilots. It's simple armament of ER large laser and a pair of ER
medium lasers mated to a targeting computer gives the Omni the added accuracy
that Scorpion warriors demand


The Alpha is not well-liked by the Scorpions, but it is held high esteem by the
Cobras due to the close-in damgae provided by matched pairs of ER medium lasers
and Streak SRM-4s.


The Beta is held in high regard by warriors from both Clans. The ER PPC gives
the Dust Devil the instant capability sought any true warrior of the Clans. The
medium pulse laser is a mere afterthought, but provides a decent weapon with
which one can engage Elementals in combat.


The Gamma is a dueler with matched pair of ER medium lasers and medium pulse
lasers. The targeting computer gives this configuration that added something
special in combat.


The Delta is the missile support version equipped with a ten-tube LRM launcher
and a six-tube launcher, each with a ton of ammunition. Am ER medium laser and
a pair of ER small lasers give the Dust Devil some additional firepower.
Needless to say that this variant has found little favor with the Scorpion test
pilots and not much more amongst those of the Cobras.

I hear ya JP but fitz is gonna have to pitch something significant to the ilKhan. I read the bit about the Scorpions practicing against old Taurian designs. That is nice but not canon and to me not enough to justify the Minotaur.  Can the engine be gotten readily from another source? Clan vehicle or BattleMech? Throw in the mobility and it might get you to the dance.
