Ok here is my entry for the 45 ton weight class.. The Fire Grenadier
OVERVIEW
This is another omnimech design cooperation between the Clan's Blood Spirit, Goliath Scorpion and Diamond Sharks. The Diamond Shark warrior-merchants always looking at making a profit at a low cost decided that R & D cost will be split 25/25/50 respectively. By Clan Dimond Shark taking the more up-front cost in exchange for the exclusive manufacturing and trade rights to other clans. The other two clan’s agreed to this condition since it can help them develop an omnimech.
If it is approved by the Ilkhan it will be built by Clan Blood Spirit and Goliath Scorpion. Their factories will also supply Clan Diamond Shark with the mechs to trade to other Clan's. The warrior merchants of Clan Diamond Shark will be the go to supplier for this mech. So any profit to be had will be earned by Clan Diamond Shark.
They based the Fire Grenadier on the old Star League mech design the Wyvern. The communication and T&T System was Ice Ferret since this help keep development costs down. Endo-Steel and FF Armor was used to save weight. The FF Armor gives it 100% coverage. And the plans for the Vox 225 fusion engine came from the design schematics of the ancient battlemech Kyudo. Clan Dimond Shark made a short production run of these fusion engines to provide the powerpland for the Fire Grenadier. MASC was added to give it a burst of speed when needed at combat and a targeting computer was included in all models. This design gives it a 16.5 tons of pods space.
Three Star's worth of omnimechs were produced. The first Star was sent to Strana Mechty for evaluation in Operation Quick Silver and the other two Star's was sent to Clan Blood Spirit and Goliath Scorpion units to evaluate its use and what tactics suit it. The enemy forces its expecting to use is the dark caste bandit's.
CAPABILITIES
The base model is designed as a long range sniper with its pair of ER Lg lasers. For up close it has a pair of ER med lasers and a pair of flamers for anti-infantry work. An active probe was attached to help it in urban or wooded areas. An anti-missile system was added to help it defend from missile attacks.
Type A is designed as a long range fire support to recon stars. An ER PPC was placed on the left arm paired with the targeting computer and an LRM 15 with Artemis IV was placed on the right arm with three tons of ammunition. This was designed to support its Star mates.
Type B is more of dedicated long range fire support and anti-aircraft with an LRM 15 with Artemis IV is placed in arms with two tons of ammunition and an ER Med laser is placed as back up weapons. A flamer is placed in the head to provide it with a limited anti-infantry.
Type C is designed for up close combat. It’s armed with one ER Med laser in each arm tied to a targeting computer and it’s outfitted with five SRM 6 rack with 6 tons of ammunition. Some of the ammunition can be changed to inferno rounds. This design was a tribute to the Clan's Commando IIC. The warriors that are participating in the design process agreed that if used properly it can cause serious havoc on inner sphere forces. Especially infantry and armor forces.
Type D has been designed with increased mobility. Jump jets were added to give it a 120 meter distance capacity. A Lg pulse laser and ER med laser is paired with the targeting computer and an SRM 4 in each arm with a ton of ammo only. The SRM can exploit any damage that the lasers would have caused.
Type Z is used for the Clan's Zellbringen warfare. And its designed to fight at extreme long range. It has a Ultra AC/2 paired with an ER Large laser. An ER med laser was added as a secondary weapon. An AMS was added to help it protect it from LRM fire.
BATTLE HISTORY
The warriors of Clan Blood Spirit have reportedly tested the mech on it bandit hunting missions and the feedback has been positive since its battlefield endurance has kept up with combating the Dark Caste Bandits. The warriors of Clan Diamond Shark has so far only evaluated this mech against the 1st Cateran Cluster to see the diffent ways this mech can be used and what other variations they can come up with.
