Overview:
A Tokasha native species, akin to the stone lions that are a danger around some
enclaves, the Frost Liger are ambush predators that haunt the snowy mountains
of Tokasha's southern continent. As this region hasn't attracted settlement,
the Ligers are rarely seen except by warriors on hunting expeditions. The
mystique leaves them considered a more noble breed than their cousins. The
Hells Horses decided this made it a suitable name for their new omni-mech
design.


Capabilities:
With other clans pulling 250-rated reactors out of storage for their own
contenders, the Hells Horses instead built the Frost Liger around larger
300-rated engines. Many of these were left surplus from SLDF heavy and assault
designs like the Marauder, Orion and Atlas. Refits of these 'Mechs early in the
Clans' history to use extra-light engines left the reliable GM 300 readily
accessible in caches across the Pentagon - and provide the Frost with mobility
comparable to some light 'Mechs.

Historical reasearch un-earthed a 50 ton 'Mech that had used exactly this
engine: the Chameleon training 'Mech. To save time, the Scientist team working
on the Frost Liger based much of their design work for the chassis and the
prime configuration on the Chameleon, albeit adapting it for a significantly
improved coolant system and advanced electronic counter-measures.

With mobility and weapon-load comparable to the old Phoenix Hawk (but much
better protection), the Scientists tapped other medium designs for
configuration inspiration, reasoning the Frost Liger could be assigned to abtakha
warriors from in the Invasion. The Starslayer, almost wiped out as a design in the
Pentagon Civil War, inspired the A configuration's two large lasers and
missiles.

The B configuration mirrors the Trebuchet as a classic missile-boat, while the
Centurion inspired the C configuration with a well-balanced and cool-running
armament. The D configuration is an excellent match for the ancient Dervish -
why argue with success?

The Mechwarriors testing the Frost Liger have questioned the lack of a
close-quarters configuration. In reply the scientists argued that 'distance is
armour' and that it would be almost impossible to fit a class 20 autocannon.
They did yield the point to create the E configuration however.

Yeah it’s another Zombie this time around but that should not be very surprising considering more then a third of the Quicksilver designs will be that type.
Technically true, but it's more like 2/3rds. We've had - what? -  one non-Zombie?

The Clans don't seem to be too good at building Zombies.

Think it has more to do with the fact that most of the clans didn't want zombies, they wanted bigger, faster, stronger. Omnis without XL engines like the Kingfisher sacrifice alot of firepower for their zombieness, and many of the clans seem to few that as a poor substitute. No such thing as too much Dakka!

Actually your right, the percentage of contests involving Zombies for Quicksilver is more than 68%! Admittedly Zombie designs weren't and in some respects still not highly respected by the Clans.

We've had two non-Zombies thus far. The Bloodwing was a 20 ton Vampire (Assailant) and the Quicksilver was a 35 ton Werewolf (Speedster).

Essentially you are correct Smegish. Zombie equals low tech with their bulky standard engines. Beside the Kingfisher the Clans only fielded the Battle Cobra, the Stooping Hawk, and the Crossbow before Quicksilver. Two Zombies that are being considered for reactivation (the Lupus and the Woodsman) were retired for their slow speeds.

Overview:

Originally started as the Black Knight IIC project, which was meant to turn the
SLDF's Black Knight into smaller and more cost efficient Battlemech that would
feature nearly identical combat capabilities as the original Black Knight. When
an opportunity arose to submit a new omni design per the IlKhan's Quicksilver
Initiative, Senior Scientist Joaquin of Clan Diamond Shark seized upon it and
made a few modifications to the Black Knight IIC, chief of which was the
addition of a MASC system that would give the Stormbringer a burst of speed
that would meet the design criteria for this specific OmniMech.

Using the standard 200 fusion plants that were salvaged long ago from SLDF Mongoose
battlemechs and Chaparral artillery tanks following Operation Klondike and the
advent of omnitechnolgy, a total of twelve prototypes were built, enough to
equip a short trinary's worth of machines. Along with the inclusion of
ferro-fibrous armor and an endo-steel structure, the smaller fusion engine
allowed for a total of twenty-three tons of pod space to be used on the
Stormbringer. During testing three of the Stormbringers were destroyed in
live-fire exercises between themselves and secondline troops that were
stationed on Vinton. Two more were lost in a Trial of Possession made by Clan
Smoke Jaguar, who lost the Trial and nearly a dozen battlemechs in the process.

If approved for production, the Diamond Sharks have enough of the 200-series
fusion plants to build an additional six binaries worth of Stormbringers before
having to a find a new source for the powerplants


Battle History:

The recent Trial against the Smoke Jaguars saw four of the Stormbringer
prototypes, two each of the A and B configurations, added into the Sharks
batchall. Led by Star Captain Lionel, the Sharks were able to successfully
defeat the Smoke Jaguars with the four Stormbringers accounting for six of the

Jaguar Mechs. However both Stormbringer As were destroyed as they came under
heavy fire in successive individual challenges. While the Sharks lost six
mechs, the Jaguars had lost ten and were granted hegira to save them some of
their honor.


Variants:

The Prime configuration of the Stormbringer is evocative of the Black Knight on
which it is based and carries nearly the identical armament. It carries two
less ER medium lasers than the original, but in other regards it is identical.
Six additional heat sinks are added to help mitigate heat, but not enough that
the MASC cannot be engaged.

The A configuration is another energy weapon based configuration featuring a
brace of ER PPCs and a pair of medium pulse lasers and an ER medium laser as
secondary weapons. Heat is still an issue even with six additional heat sinks,
but the MASC system should be able to handle most of the waste heat.

The B conguration features a gauss rifle as its primary weapon. It comes with
three tons of ammunition, a direct result of the lesson (ammo is life) taught
at Tukayyid. A quartet of ER medium lasers serve as the major backup weapons.
In addition a medium pulse laser and an LRM-5 are mounted for additional
firepower.

The C configuration is the long-range fire support model and feature a pair of
fifteen-tube LRM launchers with Artemis IV fire control systems are mounted.
Six tons of ammunition allow the Stormbringer to stay on the battlefield longer
than most LRM-equipped machines in the toumans of the Clans. For secondary
weapons a quartet of medium pulse lasers have been added.

The D configuration is close quarters model and features four jump jets to
allow it to maneuver better in restricted terrain such as the urban
battlefield, badlands or forests. Weapons are limited to a brace each of large
pulse lasers and four-tube Streak SRM launchers. A small pulse laser is added
weapon to defend against infantry and battle armor. To avoid ambushes an acitve
probe is carried as well as ECM suite to interfere with enemy's targeting
systems.

The E configuration is more of trooper model featuring an Ultra-10 autocannon
with three tons of ammunition. Secondary weapons a variety of seven lasers.

EDIT: A minor change to the base design which now 23 tons of pod space. Yep that's 46% of mass, which also qualifies this one as an assailant as well. Again, it does move 4/6[8] which will go against it in the end assessment.

Clan Blood Spirit is not known for Subtly.  So when they announced their latest entry in the quicksilver program to be named the "Snake Eater" few wewre surprised at the stab towards Clan Star Adder, long a provocateur in their feud with the Burrocks.  What the council of Khans and the collected Scientists Generals received however was a surprisingly effective design that more then any other so far, could beat the inner sphere at it's own game of maneuver warfare, while maximizing Clan Technical advantages.  the Quadmech's chassis allows for sweeping advances thanks to the frames ability to laterally shift seemingly at will.  as the test pilots, who spent six months learning to operate quad mechs with maximum efficiency have shown, the Snake Eater to slip between fortifications and rough terrain easily.  Through the input of Khan Phelan Kell and Natasha Kerensky, as well as observations from Sevren Lerroux and Natalie Breen (all Khans who have faced the Inner Sphere and have expressed concern about Clan Tactical Doctrine)  the ability for the Quad to take cover either behind natural barriers or prepared Positions also presents a distinct advantage few mechs possess.  more aggressive Khans and even the IlKhan itself pointed out a lack of adherence to the speed standards of the design.  The Blood Spirit scientist who led the development team openly scoffed at this, reminding the council of khans that slower designs in computer models have yet to prove a hindrance when a pilot who knows how to properly fight is at the helm.

The Primary Configuration of the Snake Eater is geared more towards defensive duty and Clan Trial Warfare.  A massive 210mm Dual purpose autocannon dominates the right torso, while a significantly smaller large over medium laser.  In a non trial situation the Active probe in the head allows the Snake Eather to perform picket duty, ensuring whatever forces it sniffs out have no chance to return to who sent them

Alternate Configuration A is a fire support mech modeled after the Howler, but upscaled drastically.  Three LRM 20 racks and five tons of ammunition allow a hailstorm of fire that defies a mech of this size.  the diverse ammunition bins also permit the use of alternative ammunition such as illumination missiles for night combat, Thunder Mines for seige warfare, or an experimental, but viable minefield clearing missiles for use in assaults.

Alternate configuration B is built for long marches.  being given a full Electronics Suite and armament that is either energy based of able to conserve ammunition well. n four Jump jets allow the mech to leap over terrain, or as demonstrated by Mechwarrior Tovar, pounce on fallen foes to finish them off. the B's limits are projected to be nearly 87% greater then comparably equipped mechs used for Long Range Patrol.

The C Configuration was inspired by the Osprey, an obscure mech from the Star Leauge era that initially failed it's field evaluations.  a massive Gauss Rifle and LRM 10 provide long range bombardment  while a bevey of lasers prevent closure.  much like the Fed Com's Centurion, the closer this mechs is the it's target, the much more dangerous it can be.

not the most heat efficient platform, the D is designed for advances under the cover of other starmates.  twin large and medium lasers coupled with an LRM 15 allow a single minded and devastating focus on a single target at a time.  a rear facing medium laser permits some protection if the D is flanked.  most unusally is the head mounted flamer.  while effective as a strategic weapon some of the warriors present questioned it's utility.  the scienstist then went on a five minute, profanity laden tirade about "Fire breathing metal monsters"

The Final Configuration was developed alongside Cloud Cobra warriors and scientists, who were hard at work on a anti inner sphere mech they called the "Stalking Spider"  it was revealed that the Cobras provided the technical assistance and pod weapons for many of the configurations of this mech as a result and the cobras were given official design credit for the Snake Eater as well.  the E mounts an ERPPC as it's main gun, a pair of SRM 4 packs and twin Medium Pusle lasers as close range armament.  Four Jump jets and additional heat sinks round out the E's armament, producing a mech that can dance around the battlefield and keep pressure on it's oppositition.

as a final note, the revelation of Khan Kell's Allard quad earlier, the Sprit Scientist noted that the layout of the Snake Eater permitted the use of a Turret as well, and with the Council of Khans approval, the design could be easily reworked for such technology, though there would have to be some alterations to the base chassis that would prevent it from fulfilling the "Zombie" Role type.

JP I just wanted to mention that this is 3052 and the Burrocks are still around. I'm not saying the Blood Spirits love Star Adder who are pretty friendly with the Burrocks as far as I can tell and the Cloud Cobras.

The Clans don't seem to be too good at building Zombies.

The Clans are all about pushing the envelop and getting the most bang out of thier equipment.  that is still reflected in Takiro's speed limitations which still emphasize speed when a good Zombie needs durability and firepower.

Dawn Badger


Overview:

Clan Hell Horses decision to name their entry into the 50 Ton category the Dawn Badger was a choice deliberatly designed to rile the Cloud Cobras & Steel Vipers.   A native of Arcadia the Dawn Badger is known not only for its pink pelt that evokes the Dawn, but also for its sheer tenacity and bloodymindedness.   A fearsome predator of both the cloud cobra and steel vipers species, the Dawn Badger has been known to track and hunt down both vemonous snakes with abandon.   Tough, vicious and relentless the Hell Horses believed that all these aspects would be an appropriate name for a new Omnimech.

The Khan's orders to the scientists while somewhat detailed and requiring fixed jumpjets could be summed with two phrases "Good Enough" and "Cheap as Possible", the Dawn Badger wasn't going to try and excell at the cost of major resources.   An all rounder that yes would no doubt get throughly trashed by a Front line Omni, but one tough enough to ensure that said Omni would know it had gotten into a fight.   

Capabilities

Starting from  a humanoid frame built using the standard structure (to cut down reliance on endo steel) and using a Fusion 250 Engine, the Dawn Badger was capable of running at up to 85 kilometers an hour.   Additionally the fixed jumpjets assured the Dawn Badger was capable of traversing 150 meters of impassible terrian, enabling it to move where tracked and wheeled combat vees could not.   

The most advanced technology used on the base frame of the Dawn Badger was ferro-fiberous armor, which didn't require the dedicated orbital foundries of endo steel, to ensure maximum armor protection.  Off the shelf communications and targeting computers were reprogrammed for use in the Dawn Badger, with advanced Clan electronics proving easy to adjust.

The Prime configeration runs ice cold, armed as it is with only two weapons.  It's primary weapon is the impressive Gauss Rifle which is supplied with two tons of ammo.  On the left arm a secondary ER medium laser is installed as back up.

Alpha configuration is an updated Wolverine, with an Ultra AC/5 providing long range fire from two tons of ammo, a Streak SRM6 to exploit weakness's and an ER Medium Laser to round off the offensive package.   Additionally an ECM suite has been installed in the centre torso.

Beta configiration loses long range fire for the accuracy of two Large Pulse Lasers (one in either arm) along with an ECM Suite.  To ensure the configuration runs cold two additional double heat sinks have been installed.

Gamma is another familiar setup with the Dawn Badger armed with an ER PPC in its right arm an LRM 15 (ARTIV) in the left torso with two tons of ammo, and an er small laser in the left.  An effective fire support Mech the Gamma configuration can soak almost all the heat of a jump and an Alpha strike with two additional heatsinks.

Delta config is a show case for Clan Hell Horse and a prefered combat support unit for Stars.  Equiped with a full suite of advanced electronics including TAG, ECM and Active Probes the Delta can easily ensure battlefield control.   An AMS with two tons of ammo protects the Delta from incoming missile fire.   To actually harm the enemy a medium laser has been installed in either arm with an ER large laser has been secured in the centre torso.   A head mounted flamer has been installed to throughly discourage Elemental attacks.

Epsilon has been developed as a counter battery unit, equipped as it is with an Arrow IV system alongside two tons of ammo.   An ER Medium laser has been equiped to help fend off attackers.  With a Delta config spotter the duo can rain down accurate fire upon the enemy.

Very nice fitzgerald, another solid entry!

That the Star Adders have long been proding the Burrock/Spirit Feud is well known though.

I also mention towards the end that the Cobras co Developed the Snake Eater
