Here are some additional configurations from me and a notable pilot after reviewing all the data. Hope you enjoy!

Hell Bear – Star Captain Ashwin Burns
Effects of the massive trial which occurred between Ghost Bear’s Rho Galaxy and Hell’s Horses Alpha Galaxy over control of the main production facility on Niles in 3048 still reverberate through Clan space today. Badly scared in the ferocious battle for the industrial complex was a young Horse ristar, Star Captain Ashwin Burns. Recovering alongside his new Khan Malavai Fletcher he vowed revenge against the Bears and became a fervent Crusader. With his Khan’s help this Veteran Mechwarrior was able to restore a captured Bear Kingfisher to working order and outfit with his preferred weapon systems. Focusing on close quarters vengeance these brawler configurations are geared for maximum destructive power at knife range. Hell Bear 1 was modeled after the Nova with 5 ER Medium and 5 Medium Pulses all tied to a three ton Targeting Computer. Hell Bear 2 crafted in the wake of the Quicksilver Trials used the Kingfisher’s lower integral Heat Sinks to outfit it with a fearsome array of SRMs tied to a Narc system (this array inspired by the new Crossbow D) and backed up by four ER Smalls. Four Jump Jets allow this new Hell Bear to master urban terrain and deliver even more damage to unlucky Ghost Bear opponents.

Well congrats to you and Bradshaw especially bud. I think the Quicksilver Upgrade really bought out the best in the design.

Congratulations to the winners.

Bracket Firers especially as put forward by Ice Hellion were quite good but would they be appropriate for an OmniMech? I love your Primary configuration Ice but would any Mechwarrior really need to take such a split platform into battle thanks to pod mounts which can be rapidly switched to facilitate necessary roles? Perhaps it is an interesting design philosophy and I do appreciate seeing your designs. Well done and I look forward to seeing you next year for more Quicksilver Upgrades. Until then, happy New Year folks!!

You know we have to disagree here.  8)
If you are in the middle of a battle, what is better? Withdrawing to get your pods with the risk of being taken down during that fight or being able to fight as you see fit.
If we follow your approach, no need to split weapons: just put one and if the situation doesn't suit your choice, withdraw and put new pods. I am not sure this will produce the best results in real battle.

I can't argue with you Ice as you make valid points. Thank you for presenting your bracket firing goodness as it does come in handy, from time to time.

I can't argue with you Ice as you make valid points. Thank you for presenting your bracket firing goodness as it does come in handy, from time to time.

Designing a configuration for bracket fire lets you pack on more firepower than you might be able to do on an Alpha-strike optimized configuration.  The problem with Clans and bracket fire is that weapons that have (in the IS tech levels) minimum ranges (primarily PPCs and LRMs) don't have the disadvantage with Clantech.  So bracket fire isn't quite as attractive (or necessary) as it is for IS units.

However.  It still has a place.  And, it also allows you when pushing a Clan OmniMech to choose when and where to overheat and unleash a simply terrifying amount of firepower in a single turn.

It is not for everyone's play style, but there are units out there that (even Clan OmniMech units) that benefit from bracket fire design.

Plus . . . if you take critical hits and lose a couple of weapons, well you aren't really affected.

Let's say you've an Alpha baby with three Clan ER PPCs . . . that is 18 tons for weapons and another 13 for DHS (so you can walk and fire non-stop).  Great!

But what happens if you lose one ER PPC?  What is there to replace it with?

Now, what if you have an configuration with two ER PPCs and sixteen DHS (18 tons for weapons and heat sinks) . . . that leaves you with another 13 tons for weapons?  You can mount two Streak SRM-6 packs (each with a ton of ammo) and and 5 ER Medium Lasers for that same 13 tons.  Heat on that bracket is 33 plus movement . . . and you sink 32.  So +1 to +3 if both Streak packs lock.

And if you lose an ER PPC?  You've got the extra guns to fill in for it and remain heat-neutral (or close to it).

And if you have to, man, you can deal the pain doing an Alpha Strike (+33-34 on the heat scale!), but but you just jumped from 30 damage (45 on the 3 ER PPC configuration) to a massive 89!!

It does have a place in play.

It is not for everyone's play style, but there are units out there that (even Clan OmniMech units) that benefit from bracket fire design.

And you can optimise firepower: for example firing 2 big guns at range followed by 6 or more smaller ones at shorter ranges.
You are right that it it not as much needed as for Inner Sphere 'Mechs but you can reverse it as not all weapons are able to fire at the same long range, making it something of a necessity there too.

And with alpha babies you run the risk of turning a weapon into dead weight.  The Puma for example has a lethal punch, but it simply can't use those dual PPC's without a huge heat spike  and it has to solo fire or at least bracket fire and hope the first time you alpha and you're at +12 heat you don't shut down or fall over.
