For our next Quicksilver Upgrade we go to a Blood Spirit design released in 2970, the Stooping Hawk. It is their standard Medium OmniMech composing 17% of their medium weight front line forces by 3048. While this modular war machine is an extravagance for the Clan it features no Extra Light Engine and is relatively inexpensive for an OmniMech. Not sure how Ghost Bear got its hands on this design (fluff point hint) but by the Revival Trials roughly 8% of their Medium forces are Stooping Hawks. Perhaps limited in production scope it was only these two Clans that fielded the Stooping Hawk in any numbers before the invasion.
In any event the Stooping Hawk was officially enshrined as the Clan 55-ton Zombie OmniMech early on in the Quicksilver Program. This promised to broaden the design’s reach to other Clans besides the Blood Spirit and Ghost Bear. Steel Viper had the lowest percentage of Stormcrows in their possession as of the Revival Trials (11%) and with their Snow Raven rivals winning primary production rights it is extremely likely that they will go to the Stooping Hawk as their 55-ton OmniMech of choice in the very near future.
Eventually in the future I could see Goliath Scorpion (17% Stormcrow) and Fire Mandrill (25% Stormcrow) shifting to the Stooping Hawk but it appears they may have ample access to the Stormcrow for now (the Scorpions less so). Diamond Shark may also show interest in the Stooping Hawk as their mercantile competition with the Snow Ravens has increased as of late and their share of the Stormcrow isn’t that high (14%). I am opened to your opinions on the subject but those are the few Clans I can think of at this moment for the challenge.
Please discuss what you like about the existing configurations (would you keep them as is Quicksilver fluff will give you half a point now) and introduce your alternatives. Please explain why yours is best, what role it plays with your modifications, etc. Remember I love fluff. Again, you are not allowed to alter the base design itself but the configurations are opened game. Clan Level 2 is the tech level for this contest just after Tukayyid so no ATMs, AP Gauss, Heavy Lasers, or Light Active Probes! Teamwork is also very welcomed so if you have an idea it is acceptable to collaborate. Since multiple configurations can win whoever gets the most wins, wins! Bonus points for the best new Quicksilver fluff and if you can think of an InnerSphere designation for the Stooping Hawk (likely appearing with the Bears)!!

The Stoopid Hawk eh... iiiiiiiiinteresting! The thing is, its normal configs are generally very good.
I did the Mech of the week article about it here - https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,52722.0.html
if folks are looking for information and thoughts. And i'd honestly say this is one of the ones that is a case of 'leave well enough alone' as the Stoopid is very very well designed. I'll have a look, but this is gonna be a tough cookie to crack through the Canon wall.
I can imagine Spirit Scientists looking very smug with this one, and rightfully so, they made a good Mech.

Sometimes canon can not be outdone true enough but you can supplement the existing configurations with others I am sure. ;)

Overview:
Star Captain Fumiyo Vardanyanof the 71st Crimson Cuirassiers is one of the
first Blood Spirt Mechwarriors to adopt the Stooping Hawk as her ride of
choice. While she felt that the standard configurations were adequat to the
task set before her cluster, she felt more could be done with this Omni
chassis. Tasking the technicians attached to her trinary with the implemntation
of her grand ideas.
The first of her creations was what she would call the J configuration and is
equipped as more of a generalist trooper and it's weaponry proves that fact. the
main weapon is an ER large laser backed up by a Class 5 LB-X autocannon
Additional support comes from a medium pulse laser and a Streak SRM-6. The jump
jets were an afterthought and replace a planned second ER large laser and some
heat sinks.
The second new configuration (K) is variation of the previous configuration
and retains the jump jets, a large laser and a six-tube SRM launcher. However,
changes were still made as the large is now a pulse model and the SRM is
eqipped with an Artemis IV FCS. The LB-X has been replaced with an Artemis IV
FCS-equipped ten-tube LRM launcher. Additonal heat sinks heat sinks have been
added and the ammunition supply for both launchers is more than aequate.
The L configuration Star Captain Vardanyan's personal favorite as it employs
the most powerful available to Clan Mechwarrior, the Gauss Rifle. As backup
weapons there are a pair of medium pulse lasers and small pulse laser. However,
given that this variation is designed for the Clan style of dueling rathar than
protracted engagements, it would likely suffer from an ammunition shortage and
be forced to retire to reload its ammo bins.
The final configuration is a variation on the C configuration and replaces the
three LRM-15 launchers with a pair of LRM-20 launchers. The LRMs have three
tons of ammunition for each launcher. Back up consists of three medium laser
anda small laser, all of the ER variety.

Overview:
The Stooping Hawk was the initial backbone of Clan Blood Spirit's OmniMech force, although their inability to build it in great numbers led to it being overshadowed by 'Mechs obtained from other Clans. However it was the first and it had been based on one of Clan Ghost Bear's early prototypes.
During the rapid fire events following the arrival of the Outbound Light over Huntress, the Blood Spirits were eager to participate in the invasion and the Ghost Bears had taken brutal losses defeating Clan Wolf in the Trial of Refusal, a sacrifice that resonated with the Blood Spirits. As a result there was a brief detente between the two Clans and the Blood Spirits bargained for the Ghost Bears to build a production run of the Stooping Hawks for them, expecting to need extra OmniMechs for their part of the Invasion.
Events quickly soured of course as it became clear that the new ilKhan intended to reserve participation for only a few Clans and the Blood Spirits struggled to win a slot, ultimately being defeated while the Ghost Bears secured a slot. Humiliated, the Blood Spirits withdrew to their holdings and reneged on the bargain to buy the Stooping Hawks built by the Ghost Bears, not willing to expend the resources as they were excluded from the Invasion.
With other matters to deal with, the Ghost Bears simply used the 'Mechs to rebuild their losses against the Wolves and later the losses in the Inner Sphere. Without access to the Blood Spirits and little experience facing the relatively rare design the Bears developed their own configurations to use.
Capabilities:
The Ghost Bear primary configuration is quite similar to the Blood Spirits' but rather than pairing pulse and extended range lasers in the arms they fitted only extended range lasers, using the tonnage for additional cooling as they felt the extra range offset the reduced accuracy and the heatsinks more than offset the increased heat.
While the Bear's A configuration appears similar to the Blood Spirits with twin ER PPCs, the roles are envisaged quite differently. The Spirits buried the PPCs in the torso and fitted jump-jets, treating it as a mobile striker unit. In contrast the Ghost Bears moved the PPCs to the arms and fitted a targeting computer, turning it into a dual purpose sniper and air-defense platform.
Both the Blood Spirits and Ghost Bears conservatively reserved the B-configuration for fire support and the Bears couldn't improve upon the three artemis-guided LRM 15 launchers but they felt that the large laser, firing in the same range bracket, was causing massive overheating. They chose to replace it with multiple medium lasers, more than doubling the punch and turning it into a bracket-firing 'Mech.
The Blood Spirits had used the C-configuration as a Stormcrow substitute, but the Ghost Bears had ready access to these OmniMechs so their Stooping Hawk C switched to a pair of large pulse lasers to make maximum use of the targeting computer's accuracy. Retaining the jump-jets, the design uses a pair of small extended range lasers as secondary armament.
The Ghost Bear's original D-configuration is a balanced design inspired by the heavier Summoner, matching a LB 10-X and large laser alongside a streak missile launcher. An anti-missile system gives it more durability but no less than five tons of ammunition off-sets this to a degree.

Got to agree their configs are some of the best I've seen for a Clan mech.
Going a different route saying these were just notable customized variants seen and what they were used for.

Overview
In spite of its isolationism and belief that it was the keeper of the rightful Way of the Clans, Clan Blood Spirit saw the rise of other Clans and among them of Clan Star Adder following the Quicksilver upgrades and the preparations for Operation Revival. Their Khans knew that should Clan Blood Spirit survive, something had to be done but the question of what remained.
Looking at the different Remembrances, Loremaster Bayle Campbell found an hint of wisdom in the tales of the founders of Clan Ghost Bear:
Drawing strength from each other, they survived;
Tseng and Jorgensson emerged from the snow,
And forged a Clan in the ghost bear's mold:
Unity of purpose and strength of spirit,
No task undertaken lightly or left half-done.
To these ideals we hold true until we all shall fall.
Inspired by these verses, Clan Blood Spirit sent an ambassador to the Ghost Bears to propose to revive old links and with a gift wrapped up in a proposal: to return the original OmniMech Prototype A to those who had first designed it in exchange for their help in designing a new Stooping Hawk and producing it as the different factories of Clan Blood Spirit were already working to the maximum. In true Clan fashion, the output would be split following a Trial.
As always, Clan Ghost Bear took time to answer, weighing the pros and cons, before deciding to give this project a try. However both because they had other matters at hand and because of the lack of resources of Clan Blood Spirit, it was agreed that the Stooping Hawk would only undergo a minor retrofit to improve it.
Capabilities
Configuration Prime was seen by many as the quintessence of the Stooping Hawk and as almost perfect. However Clan Ghost Bear, taking example of Clan Goliath Scorpion quest for precision fire and display of skill (something that seemed appealing to the elitist Blood Spirit Warriors), decided to drop one ton of ammo and to replace the Medium Pulse Lasers by ER ones in order to give all these weapons the benefits of a Targeting Computer. Depending on the situation and the personal preferences of each Warrior, the weapons firing can be optimised in several ways.
Feeling that Configuration A was overcooled, it was decided to drop 3 Double Heat Sinks for a more precise and thus better firepower thanks to the addition of a Targeting Computer. The price to pay (the slight overheating) was deemed acceptable for the increased accuracy.
The problem of Configuration B was always the lack of ammo for longer battles. The solution used by Clan Ghost Bear was to drop the Artemis-IV LRM-15 for standard ones, giving one more ton of ammo (for a total of 5) and two ER Medium Lasers to help the ER Large Laser should this Stooping Hawk fall out of ammo.
As with Configuration A, Configuration C was felt as overcooled. By dropping 3 Double Heat Sinks, two ER Medium Lasers were added boosting the firepower at closer ranges of this Configuration. The 14 Double Heat Sinks are more than enough to fire its two ER Large Lasers or its 4 ER Medium Lasers while jumping or moving at top speed.
Configuration D was another trial at a pure energy boat but one where raw firepower would be preferred over precise one. One ER Large Laser was put in the Head like in other Configurations. 4 ER Medium Lasers and 5 Medium Pulse Lasers provide the extra punch needed. With 5 Jump Jets and only 1 added Double Heat Sinks, some choices have to be made regarding both the mobility and the weapons used but in the right places like an urban setting, this Configuration can be deadly.
Configuration E seems like a vehicle or infantry hunter, a strange choice for both Clans. With a LB 10-X and two tons of munitions backed up by a LRM-10 and two SRM-4, it can fight from afar or close into range. Two ER Medium Lasers are there as back-up or a surprise for those trying to get too close.
Configuration F seems to draw inspiration from the Exterminator as a headhunter. Its ECM Suite and 5 Jump Jets allows it to swiftly get in position to unleash its Streak SRM-4 and 5 Medium Pulse Lasers on the opponents detected thanks to its Active Probe. 14 Double Heat Sinks allows it to fire and move at will.
Battle History
The Stooping Hawk became a common sight in the Inner Sphere during the 5th Wave of Operation Revival where this ammo independent OmniMech was liked by Clan Ghost Bear command. This advantage was never seen better as on Eguilles where the victorious counter-attack made by Clan Ghost Bears while the other units of the 115th Striker Cluster were resupplying and changing their weapons was only possible because of the Stooping Hawks were using Configurations with Jump Jets and energy weapons making them readily available to caught the 4th Arkab Legion by surprise with a speedy attack.
Deployment
Following the first production run, a Trial of Possession was held and Clan Ghost Bear won the right for 2/3rd of the production runs and has been building its stocks to in the near future make of the Stooping Hawks one of its standard Medium ‘Mechs.
Clan Blood Spirit is slowly replacing its Stooping Hawks with this new Configurations and with access to new production runs, it quickly increased the number of this ‘Mech in its forces.
Clan Goliath Scorpion gained quick access to this new model through several Trials made mostly by Seekers making it the 3rd Clan in terms of numbers of Stooping Hawks. The high number of pure energy
Notable Warriors
Seeker Kyle is one of the first Warriors of Clan Goliath Scorpion to have acquired a Stooping Hawk. It costed him his beloved Crab but in spite of the loss of a historical relic, the change seems to suit him and he tries to convince his fellow Clan members of the need to get more of this upgraded OmniMech.

Very nice Ice!!
-
I'm drawing a blank on this one, I'm a tad busy too with other things, so sadly will have to not enter anything for the stoopid hawk.

That sucks bud, but there is a week to go before our contest closes up shop here. Perhaps inspiration will strike you. ;)

Only 12 hours remaining!

As the I continue to review our recent AC/20 contest lets go back and see what transpired with the Stooping Hawk. This was a real good one as several folks pointed out canon had solid configurations and there was plenty of competition. Four designers submitted twenty different variants to challenge four very good canon options. Unfortunately, there was a point left on the table which no one took a shot at – the InnerSphere designation. Also, please check your designs before you submit them – Bradshaw I am talking to you. Three of your four were off in regard to math and pretty thin all the way through so I had to disqualify them which was a shame cause you had a few nice concepts. Finally, I hope marauder648 will get back into the contest next time around.
Fluff point goes to Ice Hellion this time around beating out drakensis. I’d like to use some of your story Abele about Star Captain Fumiyo Vardanyanof and her Stooping Hawk as well but that was clearly third place. Bradshaw way too thin even though you had a decent approach based on Mechwarrior variants which we have seen before but it is a good way to go just need a bit more next time around. Again, I didn’t see anyone take a crack at InnerSphere designation which leaves a point unaccounted for. I would suggest Condor for its bird like appearance with the Ghost Bears in the Free Rasalhague Republic.
Prime came down to three competitors with canon’s Ultra AC/10 fed by 30 rounds of ammo, 2 ER Mediums, 2 Medium Pulses, and 5 Jump Jets setting the pace. Not a bad shot at all by drakensis prime which went all ER Medium (four in total) and added two Double Heat Sinks for longer ranged firepower even if it was not accurate. Ice Hellion though narrowly beat you in my opinion with the same 4 ER Medium strategy coupled with a three-ton Targeting Computer not more Double Heat Sinks. Now this does leave his version vulnerable to overheating but it is not all that bad if you monitor your movement and rate of fire. Abele J starts his strategy of not outwardly challenging canon configurations but rather trying to gobble up supplemental variants. Nice try here Abele but not good enough although the gambit might just pay off in the long run. 😉 Bradshaw has a nice Anti-Aircraft option here that weighs in at 18.5 tons which is really unfortunate. ☹ Your winner by a narrow margin here is Ice Hellion Prime, point to you bud!
Easily my toughest decision came with Configuration A which is my favorite Stooping Hawk going in with its two ER PPCs. Again, Bradshaw had a nice Kodiak light idea going for his A but only weighed in at 19 tons and had to be disqualified. Take heart though cause his fourth submission did make it and challenges canon A. Very similar to Ice Hellion A it shorts the Double Heat Sinks to four and makes room for a Targeting Computer. However, this is where the differences start to become apparent as Bradshaw has two ER Mediums and an ER Small while Ice retains the five Jump Jets. Both ran a bit too hot for me which brings up drakensis prime which drops the Jump Jets and a Double Heat Sinks for a three-ton Targeting Computer and an ER Small. Very, very tough decision as they are all so good but ultimately canon barely hangs on, oh and look for Abele K down the road folks. 😉 Point to canon!
Canon B is the quintessential Blood Spirit configuration with its three LRM-15s all tied to an individual Artemis IV FCS with a total of 32 reloads supported by an ER Large Laser. Both drak (who switched 4 ER Mediums for the ER Large) and Ice Hellion (who dropped the Artemis IVs for more ammo and 2 ER Mediums) took able aim at this canon stalwart but in my estimation came up a bit short. Bradshaw’s massed SRM package is a nice thought but weighs in at only 17 tons meaning another disqualification. Again, Abele’s L will be found later on I imagine but once more point to canon!!
Finally, canon C with its twin ER Larges and dual ER Mediums linked to a Targeting Computer while cooled by seven additional Double Heat Sinks as five Jump Jets help transport it around the field is another solid entry. Only Ice Hellion took direct aim at it switching out three Double Heat Sinks for two additional ER Mediums and a heavier Targeting Computer. Sorry to say that canon wins here again bud but look for the other ‘C’ contenders later on. Third point to canon!!!
For a new Configuration D we had two contenders of which I will begin with Ice Hellion’s. Holy heat Batman!!! This thing’s all energy arsenal adds just one Double Heat Sink to deal with a Jumping Alpha Strike of 57 heat. Now I know your nuts if you choose to go over by 35 but even if you don’t jump you can still shutdown if you fire everything. Sorry bud just too much heat. Especially when compared to drakensis D which nicely eludes to the Summoner with its LB 10-X AC fed by 30 rounds, ER Large Laser, Streak SRM-4 with 30 rounds, and an Anti-Missile System with 24 shots. It’s a nice mix and heat friendly. Point to drakensis!
Following on the heels of that is drakensis C with two Large Pulses tied to a Targeting Computer for our new E Configuration. This is the perfect blend of canon A and C featuring three additional Double Heat Sinks, two ER Small Lasers, and five Jump Jets for maximum mobility. I might fool with the final entry a little putting the Pulses in the arms where they can ideally serve as part of an anti-aircraft package whose extreme accuracy makes it crazy good. Point number two for drakensis!!
Ice Hellion F featured five Medium Pulses and a Streak SRM-4 cooled by four additional Double Heat Sinks. Supplemented by five Jump Jets for maximum mobility this close in assassin features an advanced electronics package (Active Probe and ECM Suite) to make it an exceptional scout and Elemental hunter. Very nice job, design point number two for Ice Hellion!!
For the final three configurations I think you will see that Abele’s alphabet soup paid off. First up is Abele K which will be the new Configuration K which reminded me of the Star League Wyvern. Armed with two ER Medium Lasers, LRM-10 with Artemis, SRM-6 with Artemis, and a Large Pulse Laser. Two additional Double Heat Sinks and five Jump Jets complete the new K which I like a lot. Point to Abele!
Next up Abele L gave us our sole Gauss Rifle configuration backed by two Medium Pulse Lasers and a Small Pulse Laser. While different from what I would have done this loadout works with the added mobility of five Jump Jets. Point two for Abele!!
Finally, Abele M is a nice alternative to the Stooping Hawk B with twin LRM-20s each linked to an Artemis IV with deep ammo bays (3 tons each). Three ER Medium Lasers and an ER Small Laser support this medium weight Archer configuration which rounds out the Quicksilver Stooping Hawk. Point three for Abele!!!
Tallying up our points I see we have a three-way tie with canon, Abele, and Ice Hellion all claiming three wins. No clear winner folks even in regards to pure design points canon and Abele remain tied with each earning three design points. Too bad no bad volunteered an InnerSphere designation. Very close to the top was drakensis with two points and Bradshaw you had some nice concepts you just need to fill them out a bit more. Show your math and I am sure you’ll start piling up the points too. Thanks again everyone! Only one more Medium OmniMech left to go and that should be up tomorrow night at this time. Look forward to seeing you all again for another challenge then.
-
Well done Abele and Ice Hellion!
Oh, and canon, I guess.
-
Well done all :)
-
Also, please check your designs before you submit them – Bradshaw I am talking to you.
Yea Yea :P I still say Sarna and MechLab both have Jump Jets as on Prime Config so therefore it made sense that I would think its automatic that the design has them standard.
-
Congratulation Abele on this shared 1st place.
And Takiro, for D, I never meant to alpha strike but to focus on the best combo at optimal range.
-
Just a bit of luck on my end, I guess. Still trying to figure the Black Lanner out though

Usually you have two different brackets to choose from, your D had three! Just too much temptation there bud. I could see some crazy aggressive Clan Mechwarrior using it but not one of the top ten most common, sorry. ;)

I hope you and Ice are writing down all your best Black Lanner ideas. ;D

I am but we will see what comes out of it.
