Very nice masterarminas! You still have plenty of time to take a whack at fluff.  ;)

Sounds like a good idea. I believe the Clans did have some waypoints in the Periphery so there's no reason something like that couldn't be done - after all, it's in the Periphery so it's not intruding into the Inner Sphere.

Starting later would make it less developed than Sinclair from Star Adder Symphony but since literally anything made there doesn't have to be shipped a thousand light years and anything being repaired there doesn't have to be shipped 2000 light years as a round trip, the logistical benefit is huge.

I think of Absalom (or Sinclair in drakensis excellent story a Star Adder Symphony) like a bank for the Clan. They basically have known they are going back to the InnerSphere one day anyway so why wouldn't they set up a Forward Operations Area? Every so often when they can afford it they throw a few coins in slowly developing it overtime till invasion time.

I wasnt questioning the base part or the hidden forces but the secret production after basically a mandate was issued on military production standards within the Clans. I could see them having duplicate production sites of designs they are known to make but not unique designs that would give away their plans.

Who said anything about production? This is an upgrade or refit of an existing design, the Naga.

What a waste of precious resources.

You did when i was working on the whole listing of clan production listing in the summer had Adder as secondary producers of the Naga

I may have thought i saw in this contest but see it all mentions refits. I cant keep up any longer with comings and goings.

Why would a refit get a new Clan designation? Wouldnt it just still be a Naga it does need an inner sphere designation though

Yes the Naga does occupy a secondary production line for both the Wolves and the Star Adders. Rereading my introduction to this challenge the sixth paragraph is misleading, which is my mistake. The second to last paragraph never calls for new production and it is restated as a repurposement of existing Nagas.

My apologies, I will try to adjust the wording when I get a chance.

This was a refit of existing Nagas from their Artillery role into a line OmniMech akin to cannibalizing your artillery assets and turning them into infantryman. It should be obvious that the Adders are up to something and I was thinking they could deploy a new toy for the operation.

I suppose you could do a plain Quicksilver refit of the Naga with an InnerSphere designation but it is pretty limited in terms of tons. The Wolves would be a good candidate along with the other Clans I mentioned if you like. Certainly is a way to go.

I have rewrote the sixth paragraph and will work on some suggestions for the Naga myself.

Quote
The Quicksilver Trials however left this unique Artillery OmniMech without any Clan willing to place it into full scale production or challenge for such a place. Comparing it to the Gargoyle really was not even fair for the 80-ton Werewolf manufacturing slot not to mention technological improvements allowed for modular mounting of Arrow IV Systems on OmniMechs like the Mad Dog. Development of Zombie OmniMechs powered by cheaper and more compact Fusion Engines allowed several new Quicksilver Heavy and Assault designs to modularly mount Arrow IVs in their cavernous side torsos. These ‘Zombie’ war machines were also held in lower esteem by many Clans and given their poor status were better fits for front line Artillery service. This left the Naga a design already viewed with a great deal of skepticism in the Clans in limited production by the Wolves and Star Adders. These secondary assembly lines would create two dozen or so new models a year but how long that continues was unknown. The Naga’s days could well be numbered.

The fluff for my Naga II is finished and feature a surprise entrant into the fray. It has been edited into my original post.

Getting a late start here thanks to a busy weekend including some Solaris Games. Should be done reviewing this one tomorrow.

I have to admit to being disappointed in the response to this challenge. There were so many possibilities here from doing the standard or enhanced Quicksilver Upgrade with the Naga. Personally, I would have dropped a Double Heat Sink, replaced the armor with Ferro-Fibrous, and tried a few new configurations for Clans like Wolf, Hell’s Horses, Snow Raven, Ice Hellion, and Steel Viper. I might take this approach on my own in the future. I also thought when presented with an opportunity to create a new OmniMech that our designers would jump at the chance but there seemed to be little enthusiasm. Here you guys could have done so much. Rules were there to be broken but there seemed to be a real lack of interest. A real shame but there were some who stepped forward

4. Lamia (Bradshaw)
Converting it to a standard BattleMech probably is the easiest modification in terms of rules set but doesn’t it waste a potential OmniMech? I was searching for a Star Adder secret weapon here not just another Artillery Mech. Swapping out the engine is fine and makes a large degree of sense and increasing mobility by adding Jump Jets is good too. However, it completely lacks secondary weaponry except for a Flammer and if you read the original Naga fluff warriors felt slighted by what the original model had for self-defense and they get even less now. That I don’t love at all. So sorry bud this is my last place finisher.

3. Naga II (masterarminas)
Probably the concept I desired the most was done out right here but unfortunately it lacks fluff. When I thought about redesigning the Naga at first this was just about what I had in mind. In all manner of design this was a home run but it lacks fluff. Without that depth it was probably not gonna finish in the top spot still an able job but not as able as some.

2. Naga II (Abele)
Ice Hellion was certainly an outside the box idea but then again so was this challenge and the Clan has a clear need of every possible design which it can possibly field. I liked the different angle and even explaining where you got the 320 Fusion Engine from was a touch great. Your fluff was solid and concept sound bud unfortunately there was one design better.

1. Longnu (drakensis)
I figured drakensis might have the inside track on this contest as his Star Adder Symphony inspires much of the direction here. While the fluff wasn’t that extensive it did hold the best hooks like the modifications to the design can leave it unbalanced if it wasn’t the exact same weight. Very nice touch. Plus rather than going overboard with a max armor swap you just changed this OmniMechs armor at a ton for ton basis. This improves it while retaining the massive potential pod space for this new Shock Mech. Nice job and the win goes to drakensis!

Short and sweet review I know guys but I am looking forward to getting back to the chunkier Upgrades rather than single new builds. Thanks again for your participation even if some of you didn’t agree with the premise. The Warhawk (Masakari) is already well under way at this time and there is something up for Quickdraw enthusiasts. Talk to you soon!
