During the last Salient Horizon design contest I began wondering is there any other niche which Ostmann Industries could have filled with one of their uniquely named BattleMech products and how? Getting them to reappear in this timeline might be possible as the ComGuards are looking to rebuild following Tukayyid and perhaps a legacy member of that corporation could revitalize their fortunes on Terra. A Shattered Dawn homage is also possible I suppose with survivors struggling to help rebuild along with the New Republic. Or perhaps you staying canon could work with shelved Star League prototypes or Amaris terror weapons being developed by a captive corporation. What ever your hook I'd love to hear it in this very special design competition which is pretty wide open. Your fluff has to justify the equipment you choose though and that is very important.
Design wise it could be any weight of Mech joining the Ostscout, Ostol, Ostroc, and Ostwar in this expansion of Ostmann products. Name will also be very important as you have to stick with the Ost theme. Filling a niche while nice like the Ostscout is fun but not necessarily required in this competition which can have multiple winners. As this is a special contest I will leave it opened till the end of February for entries. Of course you guys can work together on entries and I encourage teamwork.
Have some Ostfun with this Ostest!! :D

Interesting....
With the Truce of Tukayyid in place ComStar is now in rebuild mode. With time of the essence Primus Sharilar Mori under advisement from Precentor Martial Focht have begun a rapid military industrial development in the remaining worlds of the Free Rasalhague Republic. Choosing Orestes as one of the primary worlds, home to Odin Manufacturing, a company that is older than the Terran Hegemony. Odin already a giant in the construction world has worked out an agreement where in exchange for their assistance in the ComStar rebuilding effort have acquired the rights to the Ost Series of BattleMechs that have been partially under ComStars control since the end of the Ostmann family line.
Instead of simply rebuilding one of the venerable designs in the Ost line, Odin has instead decided to move in a new direction. Enlarging the basic frame of the Ostroc and improving upon its already impressive weapons load-out. Increasing the new tonnage to the top of the heavy category the new 75 ton Ostmark, named in honor of the Ostmanns ancestral home, is an impressive mix of old and new technologies. Maintaining the same 300 type engine. Odin instead has opted for increased weaponry at the expense of vulnerability with the XL type of engine. They have maintained the types of weaponry of the Ostroc and instead increased the amounts. With 4 Magna Mark III Large Lasers as its primary armament it able provide a nearly consistent and unending barrage of laser fire at intermediate ranges, modest heat concerns being the only issue. Backed by twin Holly SRM-4 launchers each with one ton of dedicated ammo protected by CASE. Like Ostroc 3L, the Ostmark is outfitted with HildCo Model 13 Jump Jets allowing the design to jump up to 120 meters.
Though the design is new its based almost entirely upon a design with hundreds of years of experience. The prototypes that have already been tested have shown no signs of issues and it is believed production will kick off in full in the upcoming new year.

The second new production variant from Odin comes the Ostvir (ost - host, army / vir - ahead, at the front, at the fore). Again modifying one of the original Ostmann series BattleMechs in this case the Ostscout. Dropping 5 tons from the original frame allowed the designers to use the same 300 XL series engine for both of their new designs. This change gives the new scout class even more speed than its predecessor. Outfitting the design with an unparalleled 300 meter jump radius further enhances the mobility of the design. While not as sophisticated of a design in regards to its sensor capabilities the design is serviceable in its role. Bolstered with the Guardian ECM system the design is able to skirt enemy designs while performing its primary duty as a scout. Armed with twin Magna Medium Lasers to harass enemy designs if needed.

Nice designs Bradshaw! I see you got the art from Facebook Battletech International and Harri Kallio - are these his Ost designs? Or a merging of ideas??
I like the sound of the Ostdoom there marauder648!
I always try to keep you guessing Ice Hellion!!
Isn't Ost mean East in German? Is there another meaning I am missing??
How about other details about Ostmann Industries, link below from sarna.net, or their products which could be useful?

They were commissioned work for someone's alternate universe they are ostrocs
Ost can be a prefix for bone as well host/army in my research vir is a suffix for fast so that one can be fast army translation

An assault class design from Ostmann Industries, the OstLord offers what it's brethren cannot. Tons of firepower and armor to back it up. this 85-ton machine is armed with a pair of standard PPCs backed up by a brace of SRM6 launchers and a trio of medium lasers. There's is significant built up if one jumps and performs an'alpha strike', but a smart pilot will carefully bracket his weapons fire and keep heat build up to minimum. Designed and implemented in the early 26th century, the OstLord is one of the deadliest of its era. With the advent of advacned weapons and technology it fell out of favor by the end of the 27th century. A few short years before Stefan Amaris seized the throne of the Camerons, Ostmann put forth an upgrade to the OstLord and the OSD-4B was born. It featured ER PPCs, medium pulse alsers and double heat simks

Using the same engine found in the OstSol and OstRoc, the OstKing is an experiment that found no approval from the purchasing agents of the SLDF, but found its way, though in limited numbers, within the forces of the FWLM. Armed with a devastating AC/20 and the long-range kille PPC, the OstKing is a threat to every 'Mech fielded by all the militaries in the Star League. As a 100-ton Mech, it has the rare ability to jump giving it added mobility on the modern 28th century battlefield.

Ostborg OST-BG1 (Borg as in Castle/Fortress) Not the Cyborgs
With the Ostwar and Ostroc already serving for over 200 years in the SLDF, Ostmann attempted to expand upon their operations in the late 27th century with the Ostsol. Ostmann either to reasons of not having necessary capital or other unknown reasons opted to sell the license to the design to Kong Interstellar. With the design having quick and massive success and later in 2752 being allowed to be sold to individual nation states both Kong and Ostmann were ecstatic about their deal. Ostmann now flush with capital was able to push forward with another new design the Ostborg. Dedicating the old Ostwar production lines to this new behemoth of the battlefield. Unfortunately their timing was poor as another new behemoth was just being unveiled this a design backed by the Commanding General of the SLDF Kerensky himself. Rushing to production before even having sellers lined up caused the company to loose billions in revenue. This along with roughly 10 years later the Amaris Coup breaking out forced the company into bankruptcy into which they were never able to recover.
A solid design the Ostborg was never able to claim its spot in the limelight and never really saw much battlefield action. A few individual units were sold to mercenaries and nobles before the lines were shut down but most of the designs constructed were mothballed and either found later by ComStar or taken by the SLDF on the exodus. Armed with a variety of different weapons for multiple ranges if only for the sake of timing the design may have had a completely different fate in the Inner Sphere.

Why go the wick?
-
Wick as in John Wick, Killer Extraordinaire
-
LOL, I was thinking that too. Just don't kill his dog.

Why go the wick?
Though I do like Abele's rationale
But it actually was a mistake on my part and I just changed the name

Resistance is futile! ;)

One of my Ost ideas will build off the Ostscout for a larger command model used by both the ComGuards and the Explorer Corps. Known as either the OstWave (homage to Soundwave) or the OstMaster this 70 ton (double the size?) will feature more electronics (communications) gear to coordinate exploration and recon operations. This might be followed by an even larger 100 ton model which would allow a company of these Ost-plorers to surveyor or surveil an entire planet. Basically playing up the C3 Computer on a meta-scale. Probably very expensive but logical conclusion to extensive recon ops granting commanders ultra fine and up to date detailed information on a world wide level. Perhaps I have the scale too large and think in terms of continents but I could envision a Union class and this company along with two aerospace spotters (OstFighters?!) all coordinating on these operations. Thoughts??
-
Fluffed out the the Vir and Borg
-
Nice, still have to work on my Ostwave
-
Not exactly what I was going for Bradshaw - I was thinking an Ostscout would be equipped with 3 tons of communications gear and this larger 'Ostmander' have the full range of gear for full planetary surveys.
Remember folks we are still opened for business here until the end of this month!

A King and his soldiers. Prototyped in 3051 during the heaviest fighting in the Inner Sphere with the Clans. With the loss of veteran mechwarriors piling up a new theory on combat was being batted around on Terra. Pulling out the blueprints of drone tech that was utilized in the heyday of the Star League a plan was developed where a single mechwarrior would supervise and control a Level II of supporting drone BattleMechs. With the combined data of hundred of individualized combatants delivered via Beagle Active Probes to a limited AI which was fed the data into its servers. With the end results that the 'Mechs were able to operate at Veteran level ability in regards to their gunnery and piloting ability. All tactical decisions though would have to be fed into their system via the Drone Control System by the Adept in charge. Plans are on hold for the moment after the Battle of Tukayyid as the need for this is no longer felt to be such necessity.
