OVERVIEW
The Ice Hellions moved with their customary quickness to take advantage of the Quicksilver Initiative. Among the Clan’s proposals were two designs, the Boreas and the Ice Ghost, based on the Star League Hussar. While neither submission was successful it did shine some light on this four hundred year old BattleMech. As the Hellion founder, Stephan Cage, once piloted a Hussars designers decided it would be a fitting tribute to update the original with Clan technology. Based on the Royal version the design team rapidly assembled a new IIC which they presented to their Khans. Impressed with the war machine’s performance and recognizing its potential impact on the Clan they authorized production of the Hussar IIC.

CAPABILITIES
The look and the interior of the Clan version remain the same as the Star League model. The classic Benztrov 40 chassis, myomer systems, and gyroscope were completely untouched. Technicians like working in the roomy interior of this machine which is relatively easy to maintain. Using an Extra Light Engine instead of the vintage GM 270 Fusion Engine was a must for the Hellions. This power plant took up nearly half of the HSR-200-D weight curtailing armament and most of all armor protection. While a 300XL Engine was considered the availability of the Light Force 270 XL from the Incubus BattleMech was too good to pass up. Although the overall speed is unchanged the Hellions still consider it fast enough for their Touman. This engineering decision also left more space for weapons and equipment like the substantial electronics package which includes a Targeting Computer, an Active Probe and an ECM Suite. The Series 7J Extended Range Large Laser from the Donar Assault Helicopter was chosen to replace the larger but less effective Star League era equivalent. This weapon linked to the advanced onboard targeting systems gives the Hussar IIC impressive accuracy and punch at long distances. Two Series 1-s ER Small Lasers taken from the Snow Fox provide some close in support lacking in the first Hussars. Of course this all energy weapon armament allows the BattleMech to remain in the field for extended operations. The single biggest improvement for the new Clan model is the five and a half tons of Compound H17 Ferro-Fibrous also taken from the Incubus. This provides full protection to the Hussar IIC instead of the mere twenty five percent armor coverage that its precursor enjoyed.

DEPLOYMENT
The importance of the Hussar IIC to the Ice Hellion Clan can not be understated as the BattleMech has taken on special roles. Much like the Orion IIC to the Wolves these machines are presented to ristars who are expected to advance quickly in the Clan Touman. While the Blood Knight serves at Clan Blood Chapels as ceremonial guards, that honored BattleMech often shares this duty with the Hussar IIC. Activation of cached reserves meant the design spread quickly to other Clans including Burrock who recognized its fast moving long ranged striking power. Deployed in Sniper Stars with their new Headhunter BattleMech these swift sharpshooters can decapitate almost any opponent. Jade Falcon and Nova Cat have fielded the most Hussars so far among the Invading Clans. Even those less fortunate Clans who often criticize the overuse of Extra Light Engines find no fault with this design. These Clans do utilize the Hussar IIC even though they rely on so-called Zombie BattleMechs to fill out their Toumans.

This is a simple yet effective refit which turns the Hussar from a serious liability into an effective sharpshooter.
This is the closest to a perfect Clan refit that I think anyone could achieve with this Mech.

BattleTech products aren't Pokemon Cards. You don't have to catch, or collect them all.

WHAT NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT!

Thanks Jimmy, I like this Hussar a lot myself.

JP I would have to term that a Level 3 modification - one that I like.

How about removing the weaponry and equipment for an ER PPC and a 2 ton Targeting Computer?
