The Enforcement Drone, Series 209, or ED-209, were a fully-automated series of peacekeeping machines created by Omni Consumer Products. Omni was a Terran mega-corporation based on Terra in Detroit with divisions affecting nearly every level of consumer need, society, and government. Their products ranged from consumer products to military weaponry and private space travel. In the past, OCP had gambled in markets that were traditionally regarded as non-profit, such as hospitals, prisons, and space exploration and even had plans to terraform an entire planet to be maintained exclusively by the corporation.
Omni was eventually seized by Amaris forces during the Amaris Civil War. During its control the ED-209 systems were modified from the nonlethal design that was being produced for civil enforcement and fire services. Being reprogrammed for urban pacification the urban patrol unit was ultimately turned into a weapon of terror.
Utilizing a limited AI system similar to those utilized by the SLDF Casper system, the ED was a loyal soldier that would listen to any order no matter how vile. Limited in speed and maneuverability the design was nicknamed the Zombie by Amaris troops and Hegemony citizens alike for its slow plodding nearly unstoppable wave of destruction. It wasn't unusual for Amaris troops to deploy hundreds of Zombies into large population centers and have it programmed to target heat signatures or in some cases heartbeats that it could detect. It wasn't until years into their terror that rebels and partisans discovered the need for ECM's to hide from the advanced sensors built into the design.
Armed with pulse laser technology including both the medium and small variety as well as twin shot short range missile system. Often loaded with Inferno rounds for maximum destructive capabilities. The death toll this design was able to tally during the Civil War is staggering considering its size.
Thankfully the design was cancelled with the killing of the usurper and all known plans were believed destroyed. Though there have been rumors of the design being seen on a few planets of the Rim Worlds Republic deep in the periphery still searching for targets.
