Star Adder Naga refit
« on: October 18, 2018, 04:05:03 PM »

Lamia

With the recent mandate by Khan N'Buta following the Quicksilver Trials for the upgrading and expansions of the Clan Touman resources have started to become strained from all of the changes. One of the first items raised as a means to relocate resources was the Naga production facilities on Arcadia. Wishing to simply shut the line down or convert the line to the Blood Asp OmniMech, Khan N'Buta was instead convinced by her commanders that the strategic importance of integrated artillery and it being essential to their future successes.

The Adder Scientist Castes were then charged with altering the design into a pure second-line design at the hope it would reduce its strain on their coffers. With the choices available to the scientists The simplest and most obvious choice was the downgrading of the resource rich 400XL Engine. Downgrading to the standard 320 Fusion Engine alone was able to save the Clan a nearly 60% savings of resources. To offset the decrease in speed the design instead choose to add jump jets for added maneuverability. The downside to these changes while maintaining its primary weapons and ammo capacity is the complete lack of self-defense weaponry with the exception of a single flamer. The thoughts with this choice of weapon over at least an ER Small is that the design would be able to light fires in wooded areas allowing for a smoke screen to escape potential pursuers. The armor was upgraded to Ferro-Fibrous as a means to ensure some means of being able to survive until it is able to be reinforced. Due to this limitation the Clan has chosen to mimic their new allies Clan Wolf who has some support Triniaries assigned a Star Commander with more offensive capable designs as the means to defend the remaining points.

While the new design will not tempt any Trueborn Warriors to pilot it, within Star Adder many of their Freebirths are satisfied with piloting the design as they still are seen as an asset to the Clan something not many other Crusader Clans can hope to imitate.

Very nice, the inclusion of the 400 XL on the Naga always baffled me because its a HUGE and probably resource intensive engine and really a arty piece does not need to be that fast even to keep up with Clan forces. Because its lobbing SLAM's at people with a range thats measured in the 80 - 100 km range if we was being realistic.

Agreed its a waste of resources, especially for a 'Mech no one really wants to pilot unless there is not other choice. When Takiro told me it was staying for now as an active OmniMech I felt like this would be a natural downgrade instead of the numerous omnification projects going on at the moment.

Agreed, downgrade it, slow it down and save resources, so if you can, just have be a missile launcher, no endo, no ferro, and a standard engine if at all possible, with tin foil as armour.  Its at best a necessary evil and lavishing a 400 XL on it is bonkers.
