Overview:
The Sandrunner was conceived in the late 30th century by Clan Ice Hellion to
replace materiel lost in their mostly secret civil war. Originally meant to be
a second-line Mech to replenish their garrison forces, which had been scoured
for equipment by the frontline units. With the Dragoon compromise in 3005 it
became necessaryto convert it into an OmniMech. The original secondline mech
was a bit slower than the current model Omni yet still featured the ER PPC.
Hellion scientists decided to ramp up the speed by 16% by replacing the engine
with a new 140XL. The baseline 'Mech's load out became the Prime configuration
of the new Sandrunner OmniMech.
The Alpha, Beta and Gamma configurations soon followed with the Alpha being
equipped with two ER Large Lasers for direct fire support at long ranges. The
Beta became the fire support model with an SRM-6 and LRM-10 to provide support
to other Hellions when engaging pack attack. The Gamma configuration's twin
streak SRM-4s and short-ranged laser battery made it the ideal brawler of this
Omni series,
In the 3030s, Clan Steel Viper successfully gained manufacturing rights to the
Sandrunner to bolster their then meager light forces. It was their experience
in the Inner Sphere that led to the creation of the last two configurations,
Delta and Epsilon. Both are equipped with jump jets, the Delta with six,
whilethe Epsilon has four. Both have an ECM Suite. The Delta has a morelimited
weapons array though it does have a medium pulse laser matched with a brace of
ER Medium lasers. The Epsilon is designed for reconnaissance and adds an acitve
probe to the ECM suite and features a pair of ER Medium lasers and a quartet of
ER Small lasers.
