TSN-M1 TSUNAMI
« on: November 04, 2016, 05:48:05 PM »

Hey gang, I am still here! I know been pretty quiet for the past few months but its a good thing. I was telling Ice Hellion that a friend of mine wanted to try out the table top BattleTech experience. This has resulted in a rebirth of sorts and several developments for my alternate universe which is still rolling along. Here is a Mech that which we designed along the lines of improving Technical Readout 3055 much like the Sunburst linked below. It is also an homage to an old character of mine as well. Enjoy the Tsunami!

TSN-M1 TSUNAMI

Primary Factory: Hun Ho / Arc-Royal
Communications System: O/P 3000 OSJ
Targeting and Tracking System: O/P Pulse Track III

Overview:
The destruction of their unique Land-Air Mech production line on Irece forced LexaTech Industries to relocate. Left only with secondary facilities on Hun Ho which manufactured spare parts and robust IndustialMechs company executives had to be innovative. While their initial proposal for a new Assault ‘Mech named the Cerberus was promising the Gunji-no-Kanrei requested that it be reviewed by certain active duty personnel. Eager to curry favor and enhance their product as much as possible LexaTech eagerly welcomed any suggestions. Designers and executives were not however expecting renowned veterans from Genyosha and the Kell Hounds who comprehensively began to evaluate every aspect of the design. Determined to build a war machine capable of defeating Clan opponents techs from both units strenuously objected to some choices made by corporate engineers. Tensions grew with both sides using the same base design to create two very different entries for the Coordinator approval. His simple response “let the strongest win” began an intense competition between LexaTech’s Cerberus and the fully optimized Tsunami.

Capabilities:
Naming their creation in Genyosha’s honor the Tsunami appears nearly identical to its commercial originator. Even though the 95-ton chassis was based on the Star League-era King Crab and Clan Vulture both versions differ in composition. This is because the veterans insisted on an EndoSteel internal structure that would produce better weight savings than Ferro-Fibrous armor. In fact, designing the TermoElectron III EndoSteel skeleton was the biggest obstacle the competitors faced in the contest. Luckily the newly minted Arc-Royal MechWorks stepped in thanks to their Kell Hound contacts and saved the day. If not for their contribution the Tsunami would have failed to meet development deadlines set by the Coordinator. More mass was gained by exchanging one of the Cerberus’ Gauss Rifles for two Extended Range Particle Projection Cannons mounted in the left arm. This move slightly increased the BattleMech’s long range damage potential while decreasing its reliance on ammunition. Additionally, the Medium Pulse Lasers were downgraded to Medium Lasers which also replaced the rear mounted Machine Guns. These six lasers which remain concealed behind special blast doors built for the Cerberus increased its range while only slightly diminishing the close in effectiveness.
All this cost cutting was invested in armor and heat sinks which needed to be improved in order to make the Tsunami work. Retaining the massive 380XL Power Plant enabled engineers to add more integral Double Heat Sinks to the engine without using up more internal space. In the end four more ‘freezers’ were added to the base model giving the Assault ‘Mech the ability to fire its main weaponry and walk without overheating. Admittedly designers conceded that Mechwarriors should carefully monitor their heat output and bracket fire when possible something the Cerberus didn’t need to do. This drawback was considered minor when compated to the Tsunami’s single biggest improvement over the LexaTech entry. A thirty-one percent increase in overall armor protection was achieved by using eighteen tons of Durallex Heavy Special plating rather than eleven tons of Aldis Ferro-Fibrous. This allows the Tsunami to remain on the field as long as possible delivering effective ranged firepower against Clan and InnerSphere opponents. Aside from the engine only the gyroscope, cockpit, and electronics remain unchanged from the Cerberus.

Deployment:
The Cerberus and the Tsunami squared off at the Imperial Proving Grounds on Luthien in early November 3054. While a number of scenarios were played out the Tsunami managed to come out on top and win the Coordinator’s final approval. Superior armor and enhanced long range efficiency were the key factors that won the day for the Tsunami. The first BattleMechs were shipped directly to Genyosha and the Kell Hounds in appreciation for their service. Some no doubt hope this newly optimized design will serve as a powerful symbol of unity in the face of the continued Clan threat to the InnerSphere. Arc-Royal MechWorks was also allowed to license the new design for production which will begin shortly. This will likely expand the Assault ‘Mechs distribution from the DCMS to the AFFC and a large number of mercenary commands. No doubt this impressive war machine will become a favorite of many front line units in short order.
