Fireforce Militamech
« on: January 20, 2014, 10:18:47 PM »

The Fireforce was an attempt by the Calderon Protectorate to create a pacifacation battlemech that could be distributed to the Military in hopes of capturing the enemy and their equipment intact.  the keystone technology to this was the Tight Stream Electro-Magnetic Pulse cannon, recently gifted to them by the Federated Suns.  the preliminary lances of the machines all proved the concept sound, but the quirks of the TSEMP weapon meant that to use as intedned meant extreme amounts of cooperation with infantry elements, who had to be extensivly trained in anti battlemech operations, thus skyrocketing the price of the concept.

individually the Fire Force works fairly well, with a Bloodhound active probe to find hidden units and a Light autocannon for conventional targets and structures, the mech can do it's job and get in and out of hars situations.  it can not howver contribute well to offensive operations.

the one place where the Fireforce has found a home is in Federal Police Forces as a Riotmech, where the TSEMP can make Rioters Nauseated and disable technicals before they cause too much damage.  still the 64 models produced will probably be the first and the last of the design

Variants

Realizing the failure of the TSEMP model, it was repalced for a Plasma Weapon is some Regiments lances, and the Bloodhound active probe removed  in favor of ammunition.  another variant meant for more indirect action uses a Thunderbolt 10 Missile weapon at the cost of the sensors and some armor protection.

Like the sound of the plasma cannon alternatively a Mech Taser could prove useful I'm not a massive fan of either concept preferring the Plasma but that's just me

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

the TSEMP is more effective then a Mech Taser in every possible way though, and is a new tech item I wanted to play with.  I created the idea of the Plasma and thunderbolt versions as a pre emptive counter to "not effective in a firefight" as though blatantly ignoring the fluff.  much like the Firestarter, a Main Line Combat mech this is not.

A lighter design, ie a ProtoMech could be more suited (something like a Dreadnought?).

A protomech could not feasibly mount a TSEMP, Even if the calderon protectorate had that kind of tech though
