Title: Wolverine Mk IV Omnimech

the Republic of the Sphere's revelation of so called "Third Generation Battlemechs" paid massive dividends in the outlying Elysium Republic.  Houses and Clans alike began dumping all of thier high technology mechs, aerospace fighters and dropships in favor of this battlefield innovation that surpassed all other technology.  where the EDF was once struggling to afford working examples of Clan weapons and equipment, suddenly they were operating lances of Hellstars, Mad Cats, and Nobori Nins.

along with their resurrection of the Woodsman chassis (under the Lioness Moniker) Elysium took to their favored Wolverine III Omnimech, and recreated it using the now thrifty Clan equivalent technology.

the core of every Mk IV's armament is an Extended Range PPC.  even before Clan Spec the EDFs relationship with this weapon was often considered near romantic.  placing the new weapons in the well protected center torso as a hard m,ount provided by EDF logic a well rounded primary armament with which alternate configurations are designed to round out.  various configurations are meant to be a multipurpouse trooper, a Fast attack platform, Missile Support mount, and Pathfinder respectively.

Deployment
Alongside the Lioness, the Mk IV is the highest of priorities among the EDF, replacing every medium mech in the EDF inventory.  the Mk IV has already seen action against Imperio and homeworld clan reconnaissance forces, and has acquitted itself well enough.  against Pirates and lesser periphery raiders, the Mk IV steamrolls opposition, with medium lances often times tackling what once required an entire companies worth of forces.

A fixed PPC is an interesting arrangement serious firepower but also a fair percentage of your pod space

I thought when I first looked at it that the PPC was just common pod arrangement but having fixed makes it pretty unique

Only real issue I have with it would be an enemy always knows you have a head capper on that Mech it's always going to draw fire because of fixed equipment

*shrug*

I was taking deployment model insparation from The Society.  build LOTS of these, to the point that it is really your only Medium Class machine.  so sure one draws fire, but what about the other 3-11?

Alpha and Beta are rather similar with Beta having a better more flexible firepower.
Also, using Artemis on LRM-5 is a waste of tons.

did you miss that Alpha is a 5/8/8 while Beta does not jump?

the goal with Alpha was to be a mobile responder, where terrain is pretty much a non factor for it in terms of getting it where it needs to go.  LRMs allow indirect fire if it's quarry is over terrain.  Beta is designed to be a long term fire support platform.  I would have preferred 9 racks but 6s were what I could afford in terms of tonnage and ammunition endurance.

my goal was to create something serviceable while not being overly optimized, hence strapping down A-IV on LRM 5s and loading this down with a potent but bulky offensive weapon in a fixed firing arc as a hard equipped weapon.

I happen to favor the Alpha configuration, but that's because I like jumpy 'Mechs. 8) The Wolverine has always been one of my favorite 'Mechs from back in the days of the original 3025 TRO. I like the fixed mount PPC in the CT so that even if you lose both arms, you have something to shoot that has bite.

the center torso mounted "heavy" weapon is a favorite tactic of mine, has been since I got intoduced to the "it is a threat until it is dead" Grasshopper.  Emulate when possible
