Design Challenge- New Homeworld Protomechs
« on: March 06, 2014, 01:01:04 PM »

Here is the fluff and the stats

Overview:  Protomechs received a massive blow to their image when the Society Rebellion kicked off in 3072.  Clan Coyote was by decree banned from ever deploying the machines again (a decision later overturned by Trial of Refusal in 3102) and none of the remaining Clans wished to touch such tainted equipment again.  It took the Second Refusal War of 3115 for Protomechs to be given a second chance, thanks to Clan Coyote’s new ability to develop and deploy Protomechs.

Capabilites:  the Three “Ascendant” Series Protomechs are designed to maximize resources.  They all use the same rated 50 engine and a new type of semi modular armor plating for the ease of assembly.  Furthermore their main gun and heat sink system is based on Omnimech technology and thus completely removable and changeable in a very short time span.  Even the command interface is identical between all three machines, rather then the older approach of custom building command pods for each type or Protomech.

The Skuld is designed to be the fast scout of the group.  Capable of walking as fast as the middle weight Belldandy can run.  While its electronic capabilities are limited due to space constraints, for urban pacification and fast response it is a difficult machine to beat.

The Belldandy is designed to be a workhorse.  Much like the Septicemia, it’s movement profile is fine tuned for maximum efficiency, and it’s impressive 3500 kilogram carrying capacity permits impressive amounts of heavy firepower  in the raid on Strana Mechty that Started the Second Refusal war an entire cluster of Belldandy’s  dropped from orbit and captured Adder and Cobra military facilities on the planet in a matter of minutes.
The Urd carries just as much weaponry, but heavier armor protection then the Belldandy, clearly outlining it’s purpose as a defensive unit.  The Urd seemingly was shrugging off massive firepower from Star Adder Osteon mechs while advancing on the Adders Genetic Repository in the Second Refusal Wars final battle, anchoring the line long enough for Coyote, Lion and Cobra mechs to take the facility and end the era of Adder dominance.

Deployment:
The Ascendant Series is the mainstay of Coyote Protomech forces, with Clan Stone Lion deploying a few stars of each design as well.  Despite repeated interest from the newly humbled Khan Truscott, Clan Coyote will not trade the Ascendant to the Adders.

Here is what i want to see

Skuld- Take advantage of it's speed, Make it a mobile responder or a scout.  deep ammo bins would help.

Belldandy- main combat force.  I want to see a version that is meant to tackle mechs, a version meant to tackle armor, a version meant to tackle infantry and buildings, and an all rounder.

Urrd- Yes it can take anything the Belldandy can, so make it's loadouts more suitable for defensive combat meant to be near resupply.

I may have given you guys free reign over heat sinks, but I will give more favoritisim to machine guns, AP gauss, Chemical lasers, and Missiles.  the Fullisade is acceptable equipment as is a Melee Weapon

Belldandy should actually be Verthandi which is the name of the third Norn. Belldandy is an anime character with a better sounding name. Of course, you may know this already.

What are you using to design the Protos? Just curious.

yes I did, my wife loves Ah! My Goddess and I have had an appreciation for Magic Harem Anime Sitcoms since Tenchi Universe back in the early 90s.  as you said, Belldandy sounds better.  My intnetion was however to name these after the Norns though.

What are you using to design the Protos? Just curious.

a super High Tech method called Tech Manual, a calculator, and a pen and paper.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Nice. I wasn't sure if SSW magically did Proto all of a sudden.

What? None of you have the Heay Metal program? Sure, the rules might have changed, but it should be a good thing to use as a base.

HM Proto would struggle greatly to be able to build Protos using Society tech, as the design challenge is requesting.
