JPArbiter's Challenge2: The Return of the Revenge!
« on: June 02, 2014, 04:44:52 PM »

The Last time I did one of these it was a Star of Mechs in one weekend.  Now I am planning on a Lance of Mechs Per Day from Monday to Sunday.  as usual the Goal will be to get them "Table Top Ready" rather then "Competition Ready." lets see how I do!

The Schedule as it stands is

Monday- Legion of Vega Lance 1

Tuesday- Legion of Vega Lance 2

Wednesday- Legion of Vega Lance 3

Thursday- Izangi Warriors Lance

Friday- Winfields Regiment Lance  Personal Mercs

Saturday- Odds N Ends

Sunday- Lad Air Mech Double Feature!

now I admit that for the Legion of Vega Company I had a small head start in this, in so far as I had 7 single piece Miniatures already cleaned and primed grey that I was intending to use for my small DCMS collection.  I went ahead and assembled the remaining 5 this morning, and applied red paneling to all of them when I got back home from work.  finally came "the Bath"

because the DCMS Collection I am building is based in the 3145 Era, I chose to keep to paneling rather then freeform camoflauge or intentionally sloppy applications.  this to reflect a more regimented DCMS that takes thier time in the Legion of Vega Seriously as a shot a redemption.

Gun Barrels were painted first in gunmetal, then dry brushed with copper to reflect heat oxidization from repeated firings. Missile Ports were drybrushed with black to reflect them being well used and paint reapplication being rare.  of note is the Centurion in a Combine unit.  I was inspired by the idea of salvaging Davion Gear to keep the Regiments Fighting Trim, as well as scenes of Combine Warriors in Episode 11 of the Battletech Cartoon.

I will continue hammering away at this group tomorrow and see if I can get some basing done since I got a nice lead in

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

so first up is a side thing.  this Osteon was painted a while ago but had yet to get "The Bath" for sealing and shading.  it is supposued to represent a Clan Burrock Paint Scheme as outlined on Camospecs.com's how to articles.  this does NOT count towards my total, just showing it off.

What witches brew is this?  since I am realigning my Miniatures collection that means I have to do a LOT of stripping.  all of these guys have a planned outcome.  there are a couple of Zeus', a lance of Warhammers, two chargers, some Hunter Tanks at least half a dozen Phoenix Hawks, etc etc etc.  I use an degreaser called Purple Power to strip because it along with the paints I use are biodegradable, so I can drain them with a clean conscience.

Next, First I primed an Atlas, and the archer and Marauder I showed yesterday.  the Atlas is going to the Otomo, the Archer and Marauder going to the Izangi Warriors.

Who are going to go into a lance with these two.  Archer, Marauder, Cyclops and Victor... where have I seen THAT lance before?

I said before that I was a huge Click Tech Fan.  so when making a 3145 DCMS I wanted the Dragons Fury to be a part of it.  I selected a number of units from MechWarrior Dark Age that consisted of almost every Unique Mech there is a Miniature for.  Traditional Direon Regulars Colors for Parade duty are white (like all district regulars)  with a gold accent.  I swapped gold with Grey and Red to show where these Direon Transplants came from.

I chose to highlight metal portions in a different way as well, using Citadel Tin Bitz for joints and raidiators rather then steel or carbon paint.

I am not sure if the effect came out to represent what I wanted, but I will be damned if it did not work for SOMETHING.

Loving the Osteon I mean really loving that paint scheme

The Jupiter and Summoner are the other stand outs for me looking like real nice work

not much progress today, I got basecoats on the other two Inzangi and the Otomo Atlas.  Izangi are basecoated in P3 "Coal Black"  one of my favorite colors for black on the battlefield thanks to it's slight green tint.

the story behind the Atlas is simple.  it felt "Wrong" to have a lance of Otomo and not have an Atlas at the head.

the Izangi lance makeup as I said before is a familiar one.  it is the roster of Jaime Wolf's personal lance, and something of an anachronisim in my entire kurita collection I am building.  the main reason is "What the hell"

I should be able to finish these up tomorrow and then get to work on "Hammer Lance" for Winfield's Regiment.

so first the Otomo Atlas getting finished up.  pretty standard stuff, I drybrushed a little charcoal over the black to add texture to the black.  the gold plating was inspired by the Otomo Atlas on camospecs, there is only one you should find it.  the skull was drybrushed in Citadel Ceramite white.  after that I took a Mixture of Future Finish, water and brown ink to the skull and gold highlights to add depth to them

The Izangi Mechs were just the opposite, using the same gold I did broad smears over the body and left them to dry overnight.  this evening I used more coal black to clean up lines and added details as nessicary.  finally they got a total bath in the army painter and are curing now.

I realized I had already completed a Winfields Regiment lance some time ago (an Awesome, Catapult, Cataphract, and Jagermech) so that plan was scratched.  instead I took a Zeus, Valkyrie and Gallowglas out of the de greaser, cleaned and reassembled them.  I am waiting for them to dry before spray priming.  these bad boys are bound for the Lioness Combat Team, my Mercenary Unit.

I am also assembling one of two Wulfens I have.  This first one will be painted Flat Charcoal and be stylized after the Bombers of the 509th Bomb Wing.  when completed it will first be presented in the Gencon Painting Competition, and then given as a gift to my brother in law, who served in the 509th.

Finally but unphotographed is an Atlas, Catapult, and Battlemaster that are in various bits of assembly and destined for one of two An Ting Legion lances I am planning

Some Odd things have happened on Saturday and Sunday, so let me explain.  I HAVE been keeping up, not as well as I had wished but I have been working.  personal issues that have started since Early Saturday Morning have however prevented me from finishign a lot of work.  so the deal is that I will NOT be doing the Stinger and Wasp LAMs that I had Planned on doing today.

my last photo update will be tonight or tomorrow, and will include three mechs for my custom merc unit, and 3 mechs for the An Ting Legion.
