Arbiter Challenege 10 Miniatures in a weekend.
« on: January 11, 2013, 02:32:59 PM »

So I ordered from Iron Wind Metals two Clan Stars.  a Clan Wolf Heavy Star and a Jade Falcon Heavy Star.  I told my wife my goal was to get all ten miniatures to "Game Ready" before the weekend is up.  she said she thought I would not do it.

this site is to be a repository of my progress so far.  my start time is projected to be 5 PM Friday, with a scheduled varnish bath no later then Midnight January 14th.

Mechs to complete

Clan Wolf- Night Wolf, Mad Cat Mk II/E, Highlander IIC, Tundra Wolf, Blood Reaper

Clan Jade Falcon- Jupiter, Onager, Flamberge, Thunderbolt IIC, Shadow Cat II

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I will have pics all weekend.  my first question is this.

with the clan wolf force, I have been debating whether to do a generic Wolf grey, or the colors of the Blue Keshik of Iota Galaxy (my favorite colors of any Clan Wolf Unit.)  fortunatly I have time to decide since I will be cleaning and gluing the Minis tonight.

the Falcons being for the wife were pretty easy.  Jade Falcon Delta Galaxy. Green and Yellow Baby!

Go big, or go home. (Since you'll likely be home, I'd still go with something bold. Why the heck not?!)

Spent Friday cleaning both stars and assembling the Wolves.  the only miniature in the kit I was familiar with was the highlander IIC which I have in a typical "Gun Up look to the side" pose.

the Mad Cat Mk II E is my least favorite, the torso is too thin and the guns too wide out.  if the torso section was just flat bulkier I think I would love it.

I do not understand why the Blood Reaper got so much flak.  yes it is tiny, about the size of a Pouncer Mini, but the smaller size allowed a lot more detail to pop on such an otherwise plain looking Miniature.

as far as the tundra wolf and night wolf... both are fun, I got a surprising amount of posability from the Tundra, but the Night Wolf is way to static.

I chose to go with "Standard" Clan Wolf Grey this round, which allowed two thirds of the work to be done for me vis a vie the Grey Primer.  let it dry overnight and would get to work in the morrow

First thing when doing clan wolf grey, WASH!  Good Old Badab Black from Citadel, I love that stuff, wish I could buy it by the gallon.

had my first major mishap, the Blood Reapers leg just was not glued properly, continued painting as an amputee and worked it back on when done.  Cal me borning but I HATE jewling, so on went the flat black cockpits. second pic also shows WHY I love Badab Black, is that light play, or is it dust and dirt on the armor?  who knows?

AAAAAAAND DONE!  I finished each gun barrel by chroming, then giving a rust layer, then finally a charred layer towards the barrel tip.  Missile vents and ports just got the charring, save for the Tundra Wolf which I wanted to look virgin,

What the Tundra Wolf did get was a layer of green ink in the chest vents, give the impression of staining from coolant vapor.  after these pics each got a bath in army painter varnish, and are left to dry overnight before a Matte.  Sunday is going to be crazy as I am going to be rocking out to get the falcon star done.

*EDIT* the falcon Star will not be completed as the Jupiter Mini Arrived sans feet, and the Blood Reaper needs a little more TLC due to some waist pegging issues.  so this became an 8 minis in a weekend challenge.
