Posted some pics so JP doesn't get too lonely...
« on: August 26, 2014, 06:29:33 PM »

Hi all, it seemed like Mr. Arbiter was the only one posting photos of his minis lately, so I thought I would give him some company.  The wife got a new camera that happily now lets me take in-focus close ups of my miniatures.  The only caveat is that I have to use the flash to get them bright enough.  I always use a matte-finish sealer, so my miniatures are normally less shiny.

All of my minis I'm posting this week are Draconis Combine mechs, in the style of the Sword of Light.

First up, my personal favorite of my painted minis, the Mauler-1R.  The actual mech isn't my favorite to use on the table, but the finished mini turned out the best of any that I have done I think.

Next, is my DRG-1G, Grand Dragon Emery from the sword and dragon set.

Next, is my Quickdraw, from the Intro Boxset (old one).

Lastly, is the Whitworth WHT-1, also from the Intro Boxset.

Say what you will about the quality of the last boxset's minis, but I think that properly painted up they don't look too bad.  Hope you enjoyed.  I will probably post some more up at some point.

Thanks,

Dakota Mike (Mike Winne from the last two podcast listener mails)

I think what is best about your miniatures is that you took the time to photograph them properly, that makes such a difference.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Thanks for all the kind words.  I've been painting battletech minis for about 18 months, but I would say it took me a good year to actually get comfortable with every stage of the process.  The hardest part for me was figuring out my blackwash and dry brushing techniques.  Also, I make the decals myself because I don't really want to wait 6+ weeks to get them from Fighting Piranha Graphics, and a $15 investment at Hobby Lobby gets me all the decals I'll ever need.

I think what is best about your miniatures is that you took the time to photograph them properly, that makes such a difference.

Yeah, I tried taking some pics a while back with my ipod touch, but I couldn't get them bright enough or focused enough at such a small scale.  A good camera and proper lighting seem to be key.  At some point getting a macro lens might be helpful, but I'm pretty satisfied with this current setup.
