Texlos: Sieging the Underground Base
« on: April 21, 2011, 03:41:18 PM »

The Hexare Grenadiers are headed to the AFFS underground base in a volcanic mountain.  After clearing out the defenders from both the mountain pass and the tunnels leading to the AFFS underground base, the Hexare Grenadiers finally assault the base.  However, the AFFS troops have a surprise in store.  Will the Hexare Grenadiers be able to survive the trap? Check it out here: http://ourbattletech.com/2011/04/texlos-siege-of-the-underground-base-after-action-report/

This had to have been one of the most fun game's we've ever played.  Lots of ad hoc roleplaying involved in this scenario which ultimately turned it into an entertainment game.  For me, it was my first time using my C3 lance with 3 Gunnery pilots, and it was just absolutely disgusting how accurate they are.  The lack of being able to jump made the scenario challenging for me to position my Wraith, which took a bit of a beating as the spotter.  Definitely give this AAR a read though, it will inspire you to create some dynamic scenarios for your group to play in.

I've read the write up. C3i really is that nasty. Assuming you can keep ECM at bay, C3i is proper.

I this instance I'm using C3 basic.  I wish I had C3i, but alas, we haven't fought too many Blakists yet.  Fortunately, we typically have more ECCM running than the AFFS has in ECM.  So I think we've only had our networks down in like one game?  And thats was just for like 2 turns.

True, but the effects could be roughly similar. (Minus losing the network when the Master Unit goes bye-bye.) That's why I'm interested in seeing how the C3i fairs.

The Davions are a horrifically straight-forward faction, extremely well suited for scrub play.  Almost everything they use is geared towards a rushdown strategy, where targets are overwhelmed by powerful short-range weapons in turns.  The Davion solution to a C³ spotter is to gank it.  The Davion solution to a C³ network is to get in it's face.  They are powerful.  They aren't subtle.  They're primary factional drawback, like Ken & Ryu in street-fighter, is that everyone knows their moves and they can't really do anything to surprise you.

Swapping out the Ultra-20 in the Victor for an Ultra-10 and TC greatly improved it's usefulness. The range increase, though only 6 or 7 hexes seemed huuuuge. This mission did require everyone to play their part, we needed quicker units to counter theirs and heavy units to absorb fire from their gun line.

Yeah, the UAC10 makes for more of a skirmisher than the UAC20, which is more of a brawler's weapon.  Since the Victor isn't the optomie of durable, the UAC10 and TarComp, in my eyes, is much better.

Well, the Victor itself tends to be a giant, well-armored slab with a standard fusion engine, so it can take huge amounts of punishment.  Unfortunately, the main gun usually bites it pretty early on, leaving you with an overarmored SRM-4 that jumps 4.
