This was my first mission running ASFs in the form of three Defiances.  Definitely a huge learning moment on how effective strafing and striking are with pulse weaponry, but also how fragile ASFs are on ground missions.  I strafed down on 6 combat vehicles, pumping out massive damage, but lost one to a failed control roll and crash.  Another was so beat up it had to retreat.  The final one was ok, and subsequent strikes worked well.  When attempting to strike or strafe, you need to make sure that you're not the only thing that can be shot, otherwise you're guaranteed to take all of the fire.  That was my mistake.  The tanks I was strafing have multiple short range weapons.  And since I was the only thing they could shoot, I drew all their fire, including AC20s.  Had I wanted just 1 more pass (2 turns) it probably would have gone a lot better as friendlies would have closed the gap making my ASFs one of many juicy targets to fire at, not the only one.
