In Harm's Way Publication Update!
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:54:32 PM »

Well, I got an e-mail this week from Gray Rinehart at Baen Books.  It was a rejection letter, but it contained some interesting information.  He liked the story, felt that it was well written, well told, and 'highly complex'.  He then told me what he thought were some problems with it and how I might be able to 'tighten' it up.

He concluded by telling me that the rejection of his story was not an indication of the caliber of my work--less than 1% of all submissions to Baen get published.  He then urged me to revise the story and submit it again for consideration--along with any other finished stories that I have ready.

So, I am in the process of going through and following his advice, rewriting sections, and revising it.  And who knows?  Perhaps it will see publication.  After all, most rejection letters do not go into such specifics and ask a prospective author to please consider resubmitting this after changes.

So keep your fingers crossed, guys.

That is fantastic news!

Now I have a hope of being able to read the rest of the story.

I won't tell you what I crossed. It's more fun to leave it up to authorial fiat.

I know it sounds screwed up but that rejection is great news. Just getting a response is not an easy thing I found so keep working on it and I'm sure you'll get published. Keep up all the good writing!

any additional news?

I still want to read the second book!  And yes, I know you probably haven't even started it, but damnation man, you should be shackled to a computer terminal for leaving a brother hanging.

None yet.  Baen takes around six months to get back to someone, unless you have a contract with them.  They get LOTS of submissions.
