The Hunted - Discussion Thread
« on: January 12, 2013, 08:22:36 PM »

I hope MA doesn't mind but I don't want to post this in "The Hunted" Story thread as it hopefully will spur a discussion and I don't want to detract from the awesome story.

The most recent part introduces more to the story which I won't spoil here but here's the question:

Who came off worse Galactica or Scorpia?

Their paths: Galactica was a museum in all but form it had one foot in the graveyard before everything kicked off with its armour and armament degraded and one flight pod reduced to a shop.  It was then forced into its first fight without a single round for its own guns and museum pieces in its hanger.  It was caught up to by a large civilian fleet which led to it having to spend more time defending them than taking the fight to its enemy a lone warship leading a large unarmed civilian fleet.

Pegasus turned up for a spell giving the Galactica a much needed boost in firepower and fighters but it carried its own baggage and the ship ended up in a bunch of little pieces leaving Galactica much alone.  Fortunately the civilian fleet brought much needed supplies, areas to grow food, fuel ships and mining ships which overall all contributed to the ship's survival.

Scorpia's path - was off on assignment when the Cylons struck - took it upon itself to go save people and engage the enemy up close and personal - met up with some terrorists and a mini Battlestar - salvaged some ships then saved some more people and is now on the run.  In the most recent part it's come across another ship that could potentially help or hinder them in the long run if it joined up it would be another very useful ship.

They have also learned everything about the Cylons in a more constructive way than canon AND don't have the little twerp Baltar messing things around.

What I'm getting at is Galactica (with later Pegasus) are the giants, the ships capable of taking a war to the enemy or defending a vast fleet of people holding together what is left of civilization while Scorpia is the little ships that need to support each other or they will end up in trouble, alone although a capable craft I think Scorpia would struggle with the kind of journey Galactica went on.

Who is better off the Giant Loner or the Collection of little guys?

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Honestly it's a close call in my opinion.  I see Scorpia as having an advantage simply because it came back stocked and crewed.  Issues will likely arise later as supplies potentially run short.  For the short term Scorpia is much better off, as everyone is capable of contributing and has the gear and ammo.  However, without the infrastructure and resupply of Galacticas civvy fleet, it may turn out to be a losing battle against time and supplies, whereas Galactica has access to a large portion of what it needs thanks to that fleet.  It's a tough call, I see a Scorpia better off short term and Galactica is a long term survivor.

I agree with this unless Scorpia finds a way of resupplying in the long run they are going to be in trouble.

After reading MA's most recent chapter I'm begining to thing Scorpia has it worse not only could they do nothing about what happened and now they are left with broken pieces and lost souls forgotten and left

At least Galactica and Pegasus in their own ways knew what had happened and could react/deal with it Scorpia is being hit with everything months behind events

Although I'm enjoying MA's story as it continues there's a couple of things I hope doesn't happen...

1) Mathias Lorne/Scorpia arriving with the rest of the fleet and somehow upstaging Galactica/Adama taking over - I don't think this is the route it'll go but you never know.  At the same time some of the discipline from Scorpia rubbing off on Galactica could be nice.  Pegasus I always got the impression they were pretty disciplined - which is why it was so scary when they did what they did - the knew how a crew should act but still followed Cain (who despite her flaws was still one of my favourite characters dedicated to the last.

2) They come across some sort of human civilization or something like the original BSG (not the 80s sequel - the original) when they encountered the Humans of Terra - that could be fun - maybe not the beings of light though that was a little too much for my taste

3) When Aurora arrives Galactica gets a good seeing to! They talk about the maintenance the civilian ships need the old Battlestar needs a good seeing to as well - fix up that unused flight pod - mend a couple of the cracks and knock out a couple of dents.

What would you like/not like to see?

I don't want to see New Caprica that's for sure and the Hidden Five need to be revealed sooner than later. And Baltar needs to die. I've always hated Baltar, both new and old.

It would be interesting to see how the large SFM contingent is accepted by Galactica's fleet at-large, and what punishment Mathias is willing to accept for the actions of Pegasus. Mostly, I'd love to see Lee Adama NOT become a civilization-dismantling-uber-douche.

No chance of New Caprica since Racetrack and Skulls didn't frack up their FTL jump

I know I'm in the minority but I didn't mind the end of nBSG nor Lees part in it after Pegasus was destroyed I wasn't a massive fan of the Character in the last season the whole Starbuck thing felt totally wrong as did him randomly destroying his relationship nor did I like the final 5 or they Cylon Earth

As soon as he stopped being a pilot and became a civie I started to like the character again and the ending (shoot me if needed) I liked :S I liked the fact that they went out on a high not letting the ratings get low enough to cancel it instead they fought to the last Galactica had then ended it in a way that in many ways was plausible without completely destroying it

Does it take away the possibility of a sequel? Yes but in a world of sequels maybe once in a while its a good thing

MA did it so here's the question...

So far I've seen and enjoyed

nBSG + Halo (Cheif) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4068969/1/Red-In-Tooth-And-Claw
nBSG + Halo (Reach) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7406172/1/Noblest-of-the-Noble
nBSG + BattleTech http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5404879/1/But-somehow-a-most-melancholy
nBSG + Aliens (this one)

If you were the next MA :) what would you crossover BSG with and why?

Thinks.

We know the Colonial Fleet has 120 or so Battlestars.

By MA's recent statement, that the new Cylone were decimated none times over, and therefore Zoe thinks they have 8 Basestars, means they had about 80 to start with.

Zoe's fleet must have been at least twice as large as the Cylon Fleet in its hitting power to so easily annihilate it.

So perhaps Zoe has about 100+ Battlestars of fire power left and can build more.  That means the 13th Tribe will need to have a fair few WarShips.

I wonder if MA will eventually provide us the details?

Caprica estimates that Zoe has around two dozen Basestars left.  She's low-balling.  That's as far as I will say.  For now.
