A Game/Setting of My Own!
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:14:44 PM »

Over the years I have developed a myriad of games or settings with my friends and I've recently been thinking up another one. This piece of science fiction based in the near future, not more than a hundred years I'd imagine, deals with humanity's sudden and very bumpy journey to the stars.

On December 21, 2012 humanity discovers it is not alone in the universe when it is contacted by the Berexi, humanoids. Communication with this nearby matriarchal race of equivalent technology touches off the 3rd World War between the reactionary Eastern Coalition and the forward leaning Western Alliance. The West emerges victorious from this brutal conflict which serves as a crucible for many new technologies.

The expanded post war Terran Alliance continues to develop its long distance relationship with Berelex. Both worlds work together with the ultimate goal of one day meeting which results in FTL travel just after the turn of the century. As the newly joined allies begin their exploration of space they are quickly met by the Uklid who seem bent on restricting their movements. The so called Uklid War will be the back drop for this setting.

Not only do I want to draw on the BattleTech universe for inspiration but the "real" world as well. You will realize that the Uklid are the Grey aliens from Roswell mythology and that isn't the only legend we will be drawing upon. You could think StarGate in some respects but I don't want to ruin any future revelations.

I'd like to get your input. What would you like to see? Would you be interested in helping out?

I'm gonna say what you said to me when I first posted In The Shadows: do what you want. And I think you know I'm eager to give you a hand with this. It sounds like a very interesting setting. Actually it seems like StarCraft: three races, two allies, you get the idea. By the way, I've heard from some new geek friends that StarCraft II is coming out this fall (if it doesn't get pushed back again.)

You can always count on me.

What do you mean by

of equivalent technology
?

And don't you think the reactionary Eastern vs the forward learning Western is too much of a cliché?
We could go for a more serious internal Civil War (as those for and against fight).

It may be cliche but it does have real world basis. If a 3rd World War started in the next ten years what would the sides be? The east vs. west struggle has been an underlying theme of human history.

Been going on since the Greeks and the Persians just as the saying goes about how things become cliche (Where the hell do I find the little doohickey above the e in cliche?).  BTW get a hold of Traveller 2300 some time.  It may give you some good ideas Scourge,

If you use a standard keyboard with a separate number pad, hold down Alt and then type in 0233. Or if you are using Windows look for the Character Map. You can copy and paste the character from there. I think it's in Start/Accessories/System Tools.

Or you just use a keyboard configured for French or any other language with accents and type 2 in the upper number pad

Not sure but I do not want to discuss it forever, after all it is your setting.
