424 Applications later...
« on: July 14, 2012, 12:43:07 PM »

And no, that number isn't a joke. While the job isn't what exactly what I'd want, after four months of no income, nearly two years without work, and only 11 interviews out of 424 applications...I'm finally employed again. Part-time, but at least it means I can pay for the bare minimum bills. This is about the greatest birthday present I've had in a decade.

The fact that you kept trying and did not give up under extreme circumstances is testament to your character.  There are many other who would have given up long ago.

Congratulations.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

...I had heard, but...  Its so hard to believe the US is being hit so badly.  I almost didn't believe it when I read on Yahoo how people were giving up because of the long job hunt.

In Saskatchewan, Canada, my house is STILL valued at $223,000 - I paid $69,000 in 2001!  The province is becoming the most popular destination for immigrants.

My great-grandparents left Saskatchewan a hundred years ago to escape the constant threat of frostbite and hypothermia.  Maybe they should have stayed; or at least stopped in North Dakota to get in on the oil boom.  Of course that $223,000 is only $112,000 in real money. :P

Anyway, congrats DM.  I'm working 2 part time jobs while I wait for someone to retire or die in the local community/junior college system.  Its looking like the motto of history instructors is, "Death before retirement!".

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Congrats mate

I went through a similar experience about a year ago and patience and perseverence paid off for me too.

Now nearly back on our feet in the real world, so keep up with the p&p and it will pay off ;)

Cheers

Jumping Amish barn on a stick. I've been a spoiled white collar worker for a LOOONG time. I didn't even know muscles could hurt in some of these places.

Overnight stocking in a grocery store. For a rather overweight, 30-something person who spent his life fed on an Amish farmer's diet and in front of a computer, working desk jobs mostly...it's an interesting (and slightly painful) change of pace. But in some ways, it's also rather nice to see direct results of your work, something that most desk jobs never provide. The slow increase in physical fitness probably doesn't hurt either. Or will stop hurting, eventually.
