Quick question about Australian Rules Football. Are there, or have there been, many foreign players in professional ARF? I know that American Rules Football always gets pigeoned holed by "ferners" as a strictly American game but a lot of foreign players have played in the National Football League (and the CFL up in Canada had to make a rule limiting the number of foreign players [read Americans] on each team). Several Western Europeans (mostly of the hated foreign Place Kicker variety [Alex Karras, best known as Mongo in the Mel Brooks classic "Blazing Saddles" and the dad on the TV show "Webster", REALLY hated foreign Place Kickers], unless they're Germans who tend to be Defensive Linemen), Africans (mostly Nigerians for some reason and Charlie Peprah's grandfather was the military dictator of Ghana back in the 1970's), at least one Australian (Darren Bennett who was brought in as a Punter by the San Diego Chargers. Back in Australia he said he was made fun of for wearing a helmet and pads until he explained that the average NFL player was around 6' 2", weighed 250 lbs., could bench press over 400 lbs., and could cover 100 yards somewhere around 12 seconds. Forget a helmet and pads, climbing inside a tank might be a better idea.), many Canadians and a few Mexicans, and one Vietnamese player (Dat Nguyen who played Middle Linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys).
