Where the heck have you been?!  :o

Welcome back!
Oh, around.  Quit job, moved to a different state, quit another job, had a little boy yesterday (my wife, not me).  You know, the usual.

*Blows dust off thread*

Whoa!  2014?  Really?  It's been that long?  I'm sure nothing good has been happening since I've been gone.  I mean, how could it without ME, right?  Well, I'll have to see if I can stick around these parts a little more.

*Hops on his horse and pulls down the brim of his hat before slowly walking towards the horizon*

LITTLE BOY:  Momma, who was that man?

WOMAN:  A legend, son.  Just a legend.

Beware because what really happens is the little boy asking after hearing your name : who?

I'm tired.  I mean, really, really tired.  No wonder the Clans developed iron wombs and sibkos.

Thank you.  We've been home since Monday.  The little guy had to spend 2 days in the NICU and then 2 more days in a regular room with us with NICU still monitoring him.  For being almost a month early and just over 5 pounds at birth (under 5 pounds right now) he has done really well.

Now for something really important.  A deeply contemplative question.  What mech best fits your personality?  Is it a standard model or some Era or faction specific edition?  Discuss.

For me it's the base model of the Shadow Hawk no matter what the era, a solid all rounder but not a specialist in any area.

Hmm, best fits my personality?? My favorite is the Warhammer but the Mech that best fits my personality... I'll have to think about this more. I'd say a Medium to Heavy Mech, likely a classic which is underappreciated but gets the job done.

Having been out of it for awhile (Battletech I mean, not real life.  Well, maybe semi-out of it in real life.) my first go to would be an Awesome, for obvious reasons.  ;D But I'll have to think about it more, actually.  Should I go with something more Era or faction specific like an Enforcer or Zeus?  Should I go more introspective and, say, choose a Jagermech;  powerful, yet vulnerable?  This is more difficult then I thought.

After much consideration I think I've come to a conclusion.  My first thought was the CTS-6Z Cestus.  It was a favorite of mine back in the day, but now I'm not so sure.  Then I thought about a classic heavy like the DRG-5K Grand Dragon, buy that's a Snake mech and bah on that.  Then I thought about another classic like the CRD-6D Crusader, but it's just a little light on fire power for its weight.  That took me to the ZEU-5T Zeus.  But an assault mech?  Really?  So what about something a little more off the beaten path like a FLS-8K Flashman.  But that name, argh.  So I finally I decided to go with something completely different; the STY-2C Starslayer.  Somewhat rare, a solid all arounder, and not dripping with new tech.  Yep, that's me.

Quick question.  How are things in the Battletech universe/community?  The vidyagames (Hank Hill's pronunciation of video games) seems to be doing okay, but what about other areas like the tabletop game or fiction?  Apparently there hasn't been a novel in years?  What's up?

Well things are moving forward. Novels in one form are being released actually but for the ilClan era which is moving the story along. Here was last week's new releases from the big board.

I'd highly recommend the Shrapnel Quarterly Magazine. It has plenty of stories, designs, and insights into the universe in many different eras. From the Star League to the Succession War to the Clan War, the Dark Ages and yes the ilClan era. While I refuse to move along and am stuck in my own alternate settings they are really good.

Did you miss the Kickstarter? Don't worry another is on the way!  ;)

The current era of BattleTech has just begun perhaps a few months ago with the conquest of Terra by Clan Wolf in 3151. They are now the ilClan.
