Just had one of the cooler experiences of my life
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:38:42 PM »

I spent the morning getting work done on my car. I see this older fellow sitting there with a 332nd Fighter Group cap. I couldn't resist and asked "Excuse me sir, were you one of the Red Tails?"

So I spent the morning hours talking to one of the Tuskagee Airmen, an actual combat pilot. He talked with me for about three hours, and it was just flat out awesome. He even talked about how proud he was that he got to talk with that "nice Lucas boy" about the film, and said it was really worth seeing.

Easily one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Sounds quite interesting.

That would be pretty cool.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

Cool beans!  I'm from Alabama and I've never met a Tuskegee Airman.  I did meet a plank holder of the USS Ranger (CV 4), the first purpose built US carrier.  There was also a member of my church who was in the Battle of the Bulge.  He got shot in the head and spent the rest of the war as a POW.  And my grandfather's first cousin was Ernie Pyle.

Very cool! I lived in Ala-damn-bama for 7 years, and even went to the Tuskegee area as part of an academic study. But I never met anyone connected to them. You're a lucky dude, DM!
