...Nah.

They can lobotomize chemically, right?  Mmmm.  Perfect.  ...What dispersal method?  Aerosol?  Now, THAT'S A TERROR WEAPON!

Okay, like that. What about a missile with a gas payload?

Exactly.  I'm thinking ARROW V (another new weapon), and the rules for smoke.

I was thinking, what about semi-solid rounds that can be controlled by signals sent to an RFID chip.  So you can change your ammo to whatever you need.  Hollowpoints, armor piercing, flachette, etc.

That idea worked well in Death's Head, but with an AI in the pistol which could "choose" rounds for the right scenario. Those were fixed rounds though. Like it.

I'm going to post this on another forum too and I'll feed back any ideas I get from there.

Right now I have some good ideas:

Armour piercing round with flammable capabilities
Microwave weaponry
Flechette pistol
Lobotmising gas delivery missile

Keep 'em coming ;D

That takes the Lawgiver from Judge Dredd to a whole new level.  :D

Besides having that capacity inherent to bombs or other deliverable payloads, consider adding the same capability to a hyper-velocity cannon of some kind just to enhance your basic weapon systems.

You should check out Wildfire's Cthulhu Tech series. The series nasty little flying buggers from Pluto sport some seriously advanced weapons and use technology on captured humans to turn them into "Blanks" - brainwashed cannon fodder.

I'd also look into neutron-based weapons. Nothing better than creating an area effect weapon that burns the meat but leaves structure or equipment of value intact.

...Neutron warhead?  Rules as nukes?  Doesn't really work that way, from what I understand.  Fine stand-off weapon, so-so terror weapon.  The delay might result in human wave attacks looking to kill you before it gets too painful.

...?  How does that work again?  I call, "different universe"!

I do like the inferno round that pierces, then explodes, burning up all the soft stuff inside armored targets.

Me too - a sort of double Sabot round - AP, explosive and flammable?

This apparently really exists and uses depleted uranium which is pyrophoric 8)

Go figure ;D

Current weapons still supply an explosion in the kiloton range, but it's the idea behind the Neutron Bomb I find most appealing - massive amounts of instant radiation (not through fallout, etc.) that can penetrate normally protected opponents (like those in armor) and kill them. Saving infrastructure is just a by-product.

You figure a suitably advanced military will have a way to reproduce the effects of a neutron bomb without the "boom." Cripes, I'd engineer it as a self destruct or capture mechanism. Any special forces Mecha or one-off could have one of these bad boys installed. If the pilot or machine goes belly up - "bang" anything around it dies.

Still, concentrated Neutrons also make a nasty "laser" type weapon against most "meat" targets when focused and directed.

Just something to think about.

Not useful against humans (or well they'd die just the same as normal bullets), but a large round, used against 'Mechs and armor.  This round is armor piercing, once it's penetrated, a small army of tiny drones are released to ravage the insides.  Maybe they have sniffers for explosive compounds and head that way?  Each with microfiliment cutting tools for wires and such or mini explosives to rupture vitals?

Shadowrun uses Drone Mines. Nasty little buggers. When someone rides or approaches close the mine releases (if I remember) 5 mini-drones that can cause all sorts of problems - one image shows the little dragonfly drones cutting into a vehicle's tires, etc.

Your Mecha equivalent of Thunder-Aug Mines maybe?  ;)

So if you can find a delivery system that won't knock the hell out of them - like Klink's armor piercing suggestion - having little drones released inside a target would be a neat weapon.

Think about the possibilities - fire a couple of these rounds into a building filled with infantry. The drones release and run havoc, ravaging anything inside. Depending on how you've written your universe (maybe the side using this weapon have RFID tags embedded in their soldiers for identification purposes...) and there's a hostage situation. A rescue Mecha fires a couple of rounds and only the terrorists are attacked by the drones. Anyone with the RFID tag is ignored/spared.

Would certainly make boarding operations a lot easier...

Been given a link to the Raufoss Mk. 211.

Bigger it would fit almost exactly with what I was thinking of.

Yup...looks good.  A futuristic version could easily be smaller.
