Rugby time
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:50:56 PM »

The tournament of  the 6 Nations has just began and nearly live from what I saw on TV here are the results:

Ireland - Italy : 29-11
Ireland won in the first half (23-8)  against an Italian team that had no defence or capacity to win the touches.
In the second half, they only scored with two penalty drops.

If Ireland wants to win in France next week or win the tournament, it should stop hitting the brakes.

England - Wales: 30-17
A boring first half which could be defined as "oops, I have the ball, let's kick it."
England used to the best the temporary exclusion of a Welsh player to take the lead (20-3 at the end of the first half).
Wales managed to make a really nice come-back and thought they could take the lead when suddenly the English woke up in the last 10 minutes and scored 10 points.

The favourites won but were not convincing.

Tomorrow, Scotland - France.

Rugby....I have heard of this game.  I've even watched it a few times when there has been no football on TV.   ;D

Football, I have heard of this also but never watched it (for me football is what you call soccer and nothing else ;D)

Scotland - France: 9-18
France won by being able to hold the Scottish rushes while being more realistic: two opportunities to score and they managed to do it.

My analysis for the 1st day is that the 3 big teams have to improve their game if they want to win the tournament.

Super Bowl?
Who is playing this year?
And who will win/should win/has won?

Starts in about an hour. The Indianapolis Colts vs. New Orleans Saints. I like the Colts to win and the gambling spread favors them by about 5 points. However, the Saints are the team America seems to be cheering for after all the misfortune that befell New Orleans last decade. This is the Saints first Super Bowl appearance so they are certainly the underdog. I will say the Saints are in better condition than the Colts as many Indianapolis players have been bitten by the injury bug. The Colts big advantage is Peyton Manning who is the best QB in the NFL and this year it has been all about the offense so that is why I like the Colts.

well in Australia, soccer is soccer, football is Australian Rules and rugby......well rugby is that other game that calls itself football.

you can probably guess that I'm not from one of the two states that thinks rugby should be our national sport.  ;)

though I will admit that rugby ( in Australia at least ) has one advantage over the other two versions of football,  CHEERLEADERS    ;)

I'm happy to report that the Saints won, 34-17. ;D While I didn't really care who won since my favorite team (Denver Broncos) wasn't playing, I was glad the Saints did, primarily for the underdog factor. That being said, it was a well-played and exciting game.

Highland Ranger:

I certainly wish I could find Australian Rules Football televised here in the US. I was able to watch it many years ago and I loved it.

Yeah I wasn't really that interested in the game myself but I have to eat crow. Really thought the Colts would win but the Saints impressed me with their high risk aggressive play. Congrats to them and their fans! :)

As far as I know, only the Grand Final ( usually last Saturday in September ) is televised overseas.  There are always news reports showing ex-pats watching at weird local hours.

there are always DVDs of important/interesting games.  I doubt that it gets streamed or available for download though.

Your Saints have just won their first Super Bowl.  Our AFL Saints have only won 1 Grand Final todate and that was back in the 1960's from memory.  Great name, bad football legacy.

I make a mistake on the final score, it was actually 31-17.  :-[ That's what I get for posting half-asleep. ::)

Both the Saints & Colts played an excellent game. There were few penalties and both teams were at the top of their game. I think the only mistake, which led to the Saints' win, was when Manning's pass was intercepted and run back for a touchdown. If that hadn't happened, I think an overtime game was a possibility. This was one of the more exciting Super Bowls I have watched in some time.

Super Bowl bleh. :D Arsenal lost a lovely match yesterday leaving this Wednesday's header against Liverpool a crucial win for them if they want to keep any sort of campaign victory alive. Liverpool's been playing a little bit better with a 1-0 win over Everton but overall their showing in this campaign has been terrible with a 13-5-7 record to date. They're five points behind Arsenal for the third spot and 14 under Chelsea in 1st. So even if the Reds win Wednesday you really have to watch Man City on Tuesday against Bolton. They're two games behind and only 3 points out of fourth at the moment. So they're a serious contender, along with Tottenham and Aston Villa. In all honesty the race for the top four spots is going to be really close in the coming end months of the campaign. Either way I'm sure my beloved Reds will pull out in the end and at least gain a spot in the top four. After all, they wouldn't let me down! ;D

Super Bowl bleh. :D

Deal with it. ;) That's what you get for living here in America.

On what channel are you watching these matches? Now that the American Football season is over until September :'( I need something else to watch.
