In spite of Vancouver, rugby is still here.
Today: Wales - Scotland and France - Ireland.
Tomorrow: Italy - England.

Wales - Scotland : 31-24
Wales won in an undecided match until the end.
I thought they were crazy when just a few minutes before the end they did not try to score a try putting the score at 24-24 but they were able to score a try in the last seconds.

Scotland played well but Wales was able to use numerical superiority with two yellow cards against Scotland during the game.

France - Ireland : 33-10
What can I say?
Everything went well for the French: they had strength, technique, luck.
Everything.
The end of the no defeat period for Ireland (12 matches in a row).

Well, i think the Welsh victory was helped by Scotlands bizzare discision not to kick into touch and end the game when they could have, and Irelands defeat was helped by a lack of discipline.

Perhaps but you are right I forgot: France had discipline too :D

Italy - England:  12-17
England was not inspiring and had difficulties beating Italy.

For now, France and England are the only ones left for the Grand Chelem and France is leading thanks to a better point average.

England were truely terrible today, should have had a yellow near the end as well, Italy were unlucky.

If I am not there, no one is giving you an update.

Wales - France: 20 - 26

I didn't see that game as I was driving.
It seems France had a good first half but relaxed a bit too much in the second half and faced a red storm.
They won thanks to 2 penalties in the second half (their only points there).

Italy - Scotland: 16 - 12

Scotland lost but had some tries that were cancelled by the referee.
However, Italy scored the only try of the game and managed to hold the Scottish offensives several times during the game.
Scotland lacks some discipline and the capacity to go through a defensive screen.

England - Ireland: 16 - 20

First thing, it rained cats and dogs during the game, which slowed a little the offensives of both sides.
Second, just before the end, I thought that England was going to win thanks to its usual tactics Wilkinson (who in spite of a low 50% success allowed England to take the lead).
But then, Ireland was more realistic and efficient (including in defence).

For now, France is first and the only one able to do a Grand Chelem, England is second and Ireland 3rd.

Good to get the latest on the rugby Ice. I was watching the Olympic Gold Medal Ice Hockey game between Canada and the US yesterday. Even though we (U!S!A!) came up short it was a great game.

Running rugby is back!!!

Its intersting that the Six Nations were mentioned.  One of the most intersting things in rugby this year has been the proper implementation of the tackle rule in the Super 14 (the South Africa/Australia/New Zealand) comp.  I have played rugby all my life and this year has seen some of the best games in a long time (Bulls v Waratahs on Saturday was one of the best games I have seen in years), something that was needed considering the kick fest/penalty shoot out rugby was becoming. If you want to watch goals kicked, go watch soccer.

Compare the fast paced games of the Super 14 to the 6 nations at the moment, where they are using the old interpretation, and the improvement is noticable.  The fact that the tackeler must completly roll away and disengage from the tackled player by standing and releasing him completly has ensured the attacking team more secure possession and thus led to more attacking rugby and more tries, something that the fan want.  Especially here in Australia where we compete with three other codes.

On another notes, for Rugby fans.  In my story on the BT fan fiction boards,  that I must get around to posting over here, my Alternate Universe still plays for the Rugby world cup, the only antique trophy to survive the Amaris Occupation.  I am gaming out the results and the charecters will discuss them in an upcoming chapter.

I didn't know about this possible change of rules.
And we don't get Southern Hemisphere Rugby here.

I guess that with the new rules, defence will have more trouble taking the ball.

Exactly.  Serial pests like Ruchie MacCaw and George Smith have to completly modify thier game.  It gives the attacking team more certainty of possession in attack, meaning holding onto possesion becomes more important.  The interpretation that the 6 nations are working under reduces certainty of p[ossession in attack, so general kicking and penalty goals are the go.  Teams base thier games on the opponents mistakes and weakness.  The new interpretation down here, which is actually just enforcing the law as it is written, has teams playing to thier strengths and willing to chance thier arm.  Breakdown turnovers happen, but more from counter-rucking than pilfering as the attackers can become a little strung out.  All in all, it has been great to watch and should be brought in for the World Cup next year.

Also TPTB up there may be afraid of showing running rugby and having to come out of the dark ages, hence the black out on the S14????
