In an idle (and somewhat unrelated) note, I wonder if the force of impacts is similar between football and rugby. Over in the States, it's often mentioned that the force generated on each tackle (due to the speed of each player along with their mass) tends to resemble the impact of a 60 mph car accident on each down. If it's the same for rugby (and that's not an insult, I honestly have no clue), I really wouldn't want to imagine the long-term ramifications of that.

So overnight

NZ 24 def Ireland 10.  Thought the Irish would be a little better than that, but at least I picked the winner.

Australia 27 def Wales 19.  Although I thought Wales would win narrowly, Australia played a worlds better game than the week before, despite letting Wales back in after leading 20-6.

South Africa 22 def England 17.  Finally picked on close to the margin.

The one difference I saw between the two was that there was a bit more shoulder blocking or a push before some (and only some) of the hits. It would actually help NFL players (in the long term) a great deal if that were the case here. The "leading with the helmet" mentality here is a big freaking problem. Either way, all I know is, I'm not volunteering for a hit in either sport. ;)

On the who is tougher mentality, I'll gladly leave it up in the air. It takes away too many good jokes to make a decision on that. I have an Australian friend that strangely fell deeply in love with American football. There's some funny rants he loves to leave his family on voice mail about how "they're all just too poor to afford pads!" Generally, his brothers (both former rugby players) respond by tackling him whenever he flies home.

His cricket versus baseball rants are pretty good as well. ;)

Was never a big fan of either.  Prefered Water Polo, where I could keep my angry up in the off season.

The shorter versions of cricket (ODI, Pro40 and t20) are ok, but the longer version is very dull.

Blacknova, we didn't hear you about the Tri-Nations.
I wonder why?  ::)

Isn't it the 4 nations (or something?) now Ice, what with the Pumas joining.

It's now called the Rugby Championship with Argentina having joined. There was some good Rugby, but NZ were well above the rest.

The table as of the end of the comp to day was NZ (26), AUST (12), SAF (12), ARG (5).

Argentina played above expectations for their first tournament and overall, the Wallabies are still trying to find thier way.

I am always a bit late with the new names.
And it happens to most teams to try to find their way at one moment or at another.

I've just seen the stadiums for the next WRC announced, only 3 of the 17 are rugby venues!

Not happy about that, i can understand some football grounds being used for capacity issues but Leicesters Welford Road ground has not been picked. Apparently because the pitch isn't big enough!
