"In turn they tested each Clan namesake
in trial against the Ice Hellion's mettle.
Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down.
All failed to match the predator's speed and grace.
Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."

Italy-England: 0-33

Not a good game at all.
Italy was nowhere and never managed to show anything (at least they showed something in the first half time in their previous games) and never could achieve something the few times they could have.
England played and did the job in the 1st half time.
The second part of the game had a lot of technical waste and indiscipline on both sides.

Scotland-France: 17-36
With 6 tries for France and a really good defence that didn't let anything (or almost anything) get through when Scotland had its best time and France was a bit undisciplined.

England-Wales: 23-19
1 try for England and 3 for Wales. Let us say that the foot quality of England made the game and Wales made a last 30 minutes of people starving for a win but in the end, they were stopped by the English defence.

Ireland-Italy: 57-6
9 tries for Ireland... and Italy had to play with 13 players because of red cards...
Nothing to say about this game.

I couldn't see the games (not all countries are rugby friendly) but this ist what happens in rugby when you play against a better team with fewer players.
I think the score could have been worse.

It's being reported that South Africa will be joining in 2025 to replace Italy, but I've also seen reports that it's not happening now.

How does what work?

If you're talking about replacements. There isn't any. Teams and Conferences are set. There aren't different Tiers like Soccer/Football.

Sam Warburton drives nail into Boks' Six Nations coffin

While I agree with the sentiment, we all know money talks.

Both the NFL (football) and NBA (basketball) have their franchises (32 and 30 respectively) which draws younger players from colleges. These professional leagues are far superior to the amateur colleges.

MLB (baseball) which is currently engaged in sport suicide (boneheaded lockout) uses three-tiered minor league system to progress younger players from high school and college. Triple A is the highest while Single A the lowest. These teams develop talent and are also staffed with aging veterans (although that happens less and less), pro players on injury rehab assignments, and career minor leaguers. The NBA also has something similar, but the scope is less extensive.

While the idea of team (or franchise) relegation and promotion is intriguing it's all about the money here. While there are franchises or teams that hardly ever win a championship (Detroit Lions are perhaps the best example of never sniffing a Super Bowl in the NFL) the idea of them being sent is doubly unfair to me. They do try and have had great players but just haven't put it all together.

There is also roster size to consider in these discussions as the NFL has 53 players (11 on offense and 11 on defense), the NBA about 11 (5 starters), and MLB 25 (9 positions). The talent pool is noticeably between pro teams and colleges.

Like in the 6 Nations then.
