Been awhile since we looked at alternate BattleTech universes besides Shattered Dawn so I figured why not start this new thread. After all looking at other possible scenarios exercises the imagination and generates new ideas. Hopefully we will get plenty of those.

So how would you change the canon universe? Please site a specific event or events that appear in the canon BattleTech universe and how you think it should have gone. Don’t hesitate to go in depth. Maybe we will put something together and start another alternate.

My example; occurs in 3057 with Focht saying that Earth isn’t that important. This occurs as the Falcons drive into Lyran space. Now I know he ain’t the best politician ever but this is a major strategic gaff. Not politically but militarily. Terra is just as important as any other House Capital and vital to the ComGuards. Why would he casually dismiss its fall? Doesn’t make sense to me. Even if he wants to deal with the Jade Falcon incursion you could easily turn back to dislodge the Word of Blake from Terra. This could hurt or destroy the Blakist movement and usher in a new era of cooperation among the Houses. Both Kurita and Davion might send troops to assist. Victor knows Marik is a phony so he can’t get that upset. So what do you think?

That Focht intentionally or not underestimates the Word of Blake.
For him, the most dangerous enemies are the Clans that are completely alien to the Inner Sphere. The Word of Blake are just zealots.

Fighting a war on two fronts is not a good solution (even more when you have not resources of a real State behind you), you have to find a way to get back to an one vs. one fight.

In Turn they tested each Clan namesake in trial against the Ice Hellion's mettle. Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down. All failed to match the predator's speed and grace. Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."

but wouldnt the WoB be a more easier threat to get rid of. Remember its always better to get the enemies in your rear then those in the front first. As well as wanting your main base of operations and your supply source.

Probably (although when we know the future we might have some doubts) but I do not think he is working on the rational level (or he has another plan).

I think Mike Stackpole was working with what he had and tried to justify the overall storyline. I've probably mentioned before in our game a cabal of ex-SLDF mercinaries counterinvaded Operation ODYSSEUS and destroyed the initial WOB invasion force with support from non ComStar Terrans. Our own entry into Interstellar Players so to speak.

Sounds interesting? Any more details? The name of the cabal or anything?

Is this cannon or fiction?

Let's start here.
As the number of Avellar's supporters continued to grow, quickly reaching the tens of thousands, they began to leave the now-crowded area of Avellar's home. Some moved farther out onto the surface of Alpheratz, but the majority began colonizing the worlds nearby. After several more years, Avellar came to a conclusion-the people surrounding him who had given up their former lives to follow his teachings, were suffering due to the anarchy of their existence. Avellar resolved to do what he hated most: to form a government to care for his unwanted followers. In 2417, the Alliance Charter was ratified, forming the basis for the government of a new state: the Outworlds Alliance. Avellar's attempt to withdraw from the universe and decry war had, amazingly, resulted in the formation of a new government.

What I would do at this time period would be to have Avellar call upon some or all of his old contacts militarily, and in the civil sector to come to the Outworlds Alliance and help him build upon what is already there.
That many would come is believable, the opportunities alone for industrialists, refugees, retired military personnel, adventurers, etc. is enormous.
Inspiration? Look to US history, prime example look at the population census over two hundred years. Then look at the innovation. Want to go back further look at Germany and France history. Mud huts to skyscrapers in three hundred years while fighting two world wars on their soil.
Now that is what I call human power! We don't quit we are rarely satisfied with the status queue for long no we invent, we explore, we find answers.

Ok enough of that. My point is the OA would not become a Major House for many eons, but great discoveries could be made within the Alliance and with an influx of the right people it could be a viable State even if it is a little behind the rest of the IS. That they are bumkins of the universe and are not invaded by the Federated Suns and the Draconis Combine makes little sense to me and a few others.

Right but wrong at the same time: France and Germany managed to expand, rebuild and so on (thanks for the mud things  Wink) thanks to a simple thing: money.
When you have a Periphery State with lots of worlds to develop and few cash in, you need a Plan Marshall to get out of it.
