Takiro - Amaris Supreme! « on: January 13, 2009, 10:54:44 PM »
:o Imagine if you will the InnerSphere in 3050 under the heel of the greatest evil ever known, the Amaris Empire. This little state of the Sphere report done long ago for another campaign does just that. The alternate event that sets this is something hit on by Master Arminas. A traitor in Kerensky's mist manages to kill the General after he rejects the Emperor's will and before the planned liberation of Terra. Leaderless the SLDF futility throws itself at the Hegemony only to break like water against the rocks. Some return to their homelands while others become mercenaries or bandits beyond the Rim. Enjoy!
-Terran Hegemony-
Successive Amaris rulers have remade the Terran state in their own image with Nazi like construction projects dotting the landscape. Most Terrans have resigned themselves to the tyrants rule as a nobility transformed by years of collaboration and greed now ruthlessly oppress the populace. Local strong men, secret police, and high tech surveillance constantly seek out unpatriotic behavior. Control over the Imperial COMNET (HPG Network) has done much the same around the InnerSphere. Rebellions are consequently low in Terran space but the Byzantine court of the Emperor is filled with constant danger.
-Draconis Combine-
The House Kurita maybe Amaris' greatest ally or strongest enemies. While the Dragon has reluctantly worked with the Emperor to crush insurrections there continues to be a sense of mutual distrust. The custom of exchanging high ranking hostages and non interference in the affairs of the Combine has done much to preserve the Coordinator's "allegiance". The Draconis nation is the closest realm in relation to its canon counterpart at this time.
-Federated Suns-
Occupied and scared are the two words that best describe the Federation. It has been the focal point of many rebellions against the Amaris regime and has paid dearly. Many planets even on the interior of the Crucis March resemble war zones complete with radioactive fallout and rubble were cities used to be. The Draconis Combine and Capellan Confederation have annexed the important border worlds and occupy their respective Marches as demilitarized zones.
-Capellan Confederation-
House Liao has prospered under the Amaris regime like no other. Supporting the largest population in the known worlds makes the Confederation a powerful ally of the Emperor. Many Capellans serve the Empire which has aided it in so many ways especially along the Davion border. Despite the outward affection there is tension between the Chancellor and Lord Amaris. Each sovereign constantly engages in a deadly game of cat and mouse trying to dominate the other. Thus far the Liaos have been thwarted by their Terran overlords.
-Free Worlds League-
Through careful manipulation of the political situation within the League the Amaris Empire has managed to control Marik space. Although the Free Worlds has had no Imperial Insurrections (essential a Succession War type conflict to bring a House into line), "Civil Wars" are still quite frequent. However, the winning side in these disputes always seems to be a friendly Amaris lackey. Parliament and the nature of the League government has frustrated agents of the Emperor more than once however. League citizens still enjoy the most personal freedoms and liberties in the InnerSphere. House Marik also has protected a few provinces which are known thorns in the side of Amaris.
-Lyran Commonwealth-
The Lyran nation no longer exists in this alternate universe. It was officially dissolved after the 1st Imperial Insurrection and broken down into its three component states. The Federation of Skye, an industrial giant, once tied closely to the imperial heartland as the deliverer of its independence has grown resentful of the Amaris dynasty. Growing discontent has become a concern for agent of the Emperor who must respect the laws of this flagging Amaris ally. The Tamar Pact, a commercial powerhouse, is tied closely to the Rim Republic and the Terran Hegemony providing a vital link. Despite its acceptance of imperial authority the Pact is a known haven region of anti-Amaris rebels. The Protectorate of Donegal is similar to the Federated Suns in its status but on a far smaller scale.
-Rim Republic-
The Republic has come into its own following the ascension of Stefan Amaris I and the subsequent reign of his progeny. Their imperial title and support after wards helped this Periphery nation develop into a Great House equal to any InnerSphere nation. Ruled by House Selim, after Regent Mohammed Selim was elevated to sovereign by Amaris for his faithful service, the Rim is a vibrant part of the Empire. While proud of their heritage most Rim Worlders find the brutality and "enlightened autocratic ways" of Amaris distasteful. Though they look down their noses at the "Terran elites" this attitude should not be mistaken for disloyalty.
-Periphery Nations-
Ironically the states of the Periphery, once Amaris "allies" against Kerensky, have given the Empire fits. Historically the Emperor has had a lot of trouble controlling these Outland Provinces. While the Federated Suns can claim the greatest number of Insurrections against Imperial authority its location and relatively centralized population have proven relatively simple to tame compared to the Periphery. Vast tracks of unclaimed space are havens for rebels, pirates, and every other imperial nuisance one can think of. The most rebellious Periphery state is easily the Taurian Concordat. It is currently under military occupation by forces of the Emperor who wage a constant campaign against the insurgency. The Magistacy of Canopus is more subtle in its opposition to Amaris as they frequently aid rebels but officially remain a loyal servant of the Empire. The Outworlds Alliance is also a source of rebellious elements but most have been terrified into submission. Recently a newcomer to the region, the Marian Hegemony, has shown promise to the Empire raiding minor realms and proving that more Periphery allies are not beyond possibility.
-Fate of the SLDF-
Legend has it not all of the Star League forces would kneel before the tyranny of Amaris. Some are thought to have escaped the Human Sphere for lands beyond the reach of the Emperor. Shattered by their failed drive to liberate Terra these forces, more accurately refugees, aren't like Kerensky's Exodus if they exist at all. Survival beyond the rest of civilization could prove impossible and who would unify such a rabble? Many believe these stories to be more myth than fact, probably true. Hopeless notions of a Star League in Exile carefully building its strength for an eventual return are closer to fantasy then reality.

I guess you made the hypothesis that the other Amaris would be as evil as the first one.

I'm guessing that it would be quite hard - but not impossible - to break that cycle, especially if you are born into it.
Very interesting alternate timeline, Tak!

There might be exceptions to the rule but a good person in the line of succession might be weeded out, see Star Trek Mirror, Mirror. Basically this is the behavior the Amaris clan fosters so like MechRat said hard to break the cycle. That being said every Amaris isn't the same. ;)
After I completed the post last night a got to thinking, might this universe face a tech decline ala the Succession Wars? It stands to reason that the Hegemony's scientific base might not be the same after years of Amaris rule. The Imperial Insurrections (referred to above) might badly damage infrastructure given the new regimes policy on WMD. So by 3025 could the Amaris Empire be reduced in standing like the canon InnerSphere? Granted it isn't going to be as bad.

I find it hard to believe.
Just look at every empire or kingdom, they had their share of bad and good sovereigns.
Your hypothesis might be necessary for you to go ahead but I find it a bit too simple.
And for the tech decline, what about saying that 3025 is like 3039 in canon?
After nuking his first planets, Amaris has probably gathered all the scientists he could find into specific Imperial institutions.
This would allow him to control better his Empire while giving him a edge against the other States (just in case).

Be interesting to see what my two Amaris boys Takeo and Hideki would be like in this world.
