So I have been wishing to write fiction for a very long time. Since I have finished some collage now and have the basic tools I need to write, I figured my first project should be one of passion. Something that I am immensely interested in. Nothing fits that better than Battletech.

So here is the premise of my AU.

When Wolf's Dragoons Jump into Davion space in 3005 there is skirmish with the Delos IV militia. The Dragoons, not wanting to be seen as invaders, try to withdraw to Kuritan space. However, Ian "The Hound" Davion beleives that they are the Vangaurd of the SLDF returned and throws everything he can at them, chasing them through Outworlds Alliance space. Although they are mauled badly, the Davion forces manage to capture one Jumpship.

After reaching Kuritan Space the Dragoons are able to get a contract with Kurita. Although the Dragon has his suspicions having five regiments with a reason to hate Davion is too much to pass up, and the Dragoons are hired through 3015. The Dragoons serve meritoriously through their employment with the Combine.

Meanwhile, after examining the jumpship they captured Davion intelligence finds the coordinates to the Dragoon cache. Leading the the Creation of Task Force Hound, an adhoc regiment the best pilots that could be had in a timely manner. Upon arrival at the cache, they find that the Dragoons have sent a force to protect the cache. However, they weren't expecting such a timely arrival. Surprise and numbers begot a Davion victory, but not before disabling all of the Warships. However, at the urging of his brother Hanse, Ian Davion begins a research station at the cache site.

The Third Succession War Grinds along until 3013 when First Prince Ian Davion is killed during the liberation of Mallory's World. Leaving Hanse Davion as First Prince.

So this is my jumping off point for my AU.

In 3014 another tragedy rocks the Federated Suns. First Prince Hanse Davion is killed on a raid to Halstead Station. He died against the Mercenary Natasha Kerensky while leading a reargaurd to allow the last mech of his raiding party to escape with the valuable spoils from that raid.

Michael Hasek-Davion is appointed First Prince of the Federated Suns.

Elsewhere in the Inner Sphere, Anton Marik supported by a large contingent of mercenaries from House Liao begins a revolt against Janos Marik. However, Janos does not have the military might to back up his claims to the title of Captain General and is quickly put down by Janos.

Wolf's Dragoons also begin their next contract-with House Steiner for the next 8 years.

So I have a lot to work with here. What would make the best stories? Does anything jump out to you as "something I just gotta read" let me know what you guys think!

Michael Hasek-Davion in charge of the FedSuns, wonder what his response to Katrina's peace proposal be?

With the FWL civil war being less destructive they would be more of a factor in the 4th Succession War, that's if the AFFS/LCAF launch it.

And way down the line without the feud between Wayne's Wacos and the Wolf's Dragoons could have interesting ramifications. Plus Joshua is still alive most likely without Anton murdering him, the children of Natasha and Joshua leading the Wolf's Dragoons in a generation or so? Would she have returned to the Clans?

Also they seem to not be doing the whole "work for every house" thing what with the really long employment times, or at least that's the feeling I'm getting. What does that spell for the clan invasion?

There's lots of interesting stuff there.

I needed to extend thier contract time so I can have the Black Widow kill Hanse. They are still working for every house, but the Clan invasion may be farther off.

I was thinking that a rivalry with the Kell Hounds would actually be fun for the Dragoons instead if B-Teamers like the Rangers. I need to read the novels from that era to get some characterization. Sarna.net can only do so much for me. I think I like that, actually. Perhaps Morgan Kell demands Vengance after Patrick is killed by Natasha Kerensky?

As for Michael H-D there may be no peace proposal as he will be launching an ill fated war against the Capellan Confederation in 3015. House Davion also loses contact with the research station at the Dragoons' cache in the periphery.

As Anton was prompted to rebel by Max Liao, with Wolf's Dragoons as a major part of that inducement, I doubt that Anton would revolt on-schedule without the assistance of the Dragoons. They were the heart of his military, after all, as Historical: Brush Wars depicts clearly. Even a Marik would recognize he didn't have the forces to revolt without something like that.

As for a rivalry between the Kell Hounds and Dragoons...at this point in time the Kell Hounds consist of two battalions of 'mechs, a wing of fighters and a battalion of Jump Infantry; they couldn't rival Alpha Regiment, much less the entire Dragoons. Nor is Morgan Kell the sort of person to be upset at the man who killed his brother, given how buddy-buddy he and Yorinaga Kurita got at Hanse's wedding, after Yorinaga had in fact killed Patrick Kell. Remember, the Rangers hated the Dragoons; the Dragoons generally ignored the Rangers as beneath their notice. I find unit rivalry to be more annoying than dramatic (much the way I view the Phelan/Vlad rivalry), so I'm clearly biased against the the Dragoons having any "rival" unit. The best bet I have for a unit at this period of time which could work as the Dragoons' "rivals" would be McCarron's Armored Cavalry, who at least have the numbers to challenge the Dragoons, if not the competence. A good way to work that would be having the MAC get upset about being shown-up by the Dragoons when the Dragoons work for Liao.

And for this, you would need to make them jump from Kurita to Liao (unless you want to have more time before the Clans strike (if they strike)).

Did House Davion get anything from the Wolf's Dragoons' cache?

I guess you are right about the Dragoons and rivals. I also fixed the part where Janos revolts. Instead of the Dragoons he does receive heavy Merc support from Max. But they're not the Dragoons so the rebellion still fails.

I really need to read the warrior trilogy and learn some about the Kells. So o.k., i can throw that out, that would be re-writing the character, which is not my intention.

Next up will be the Davion-Liao war of '15 (hint: Michael is no Hanse!) and more on the Dragoon cache.

Anyone have any good info on what was going on in Steiner an Kurita space around this time?

For Steiner and Kurita space-- what are the major campaigns that occurred in this timeframe?

Also, should I push forward with the timeline or start writing my first short stories to solidify and flesh out what I have?

The Steiner-Kurita border had been largely stagnant with Takashi Kurita focusing on the Davion front for years. An exception was fighting over Sevren.

However, in 3016 the DCMS shuffled 3 regiments of Rasalhague Regulars through Sevren to draw reinforcements and then shifted them to Laurent which had been weakened. Laurent nearly fell, but the militia and a battalion of the 8th Donegal Guards stalled the attack until LCAF could redeploy.

After this the fighting was primarily one of raid and counter raid along the border.
