One planet battletech!
« on: July 23, 2011, 04:18:47 PM »

They year is 2455, it seems that despite advances in fusion power, mankind has never been able to leave for the stars in any meaningful way. After decades of war, 5 Great Houses have come to control vast portions of the globe...

House Davion -  Based in London, House Davion controls most of the old british empire.

House Steiner - Controls Coninental Europe with signifcant holdings in Africa and has other colonies around the world.

House Kurita - With Unity City sitting on the ruins of old tokyo The Draconis Combine controls Japan has a foothold in Asia, and also controls India as well.

House Liao - Controls most of mainland asia from moscow to Beijing.

House Marik - Based in Brazil and controls a good portion of the South and North America.

------------------------------

Just an idea I have been kicking around.

Who controls the white parts scotland, much of eastern europe, and argentina

Sounds interesting where's House Cameron?

The moon, mars, asteroid belt?

Sounds like a BattleTech version of Risk

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

The map isnt that great but scotland would still be davion and marik has all of south america not painted something else. I thought the setting would be a fun way to set up a campaign style game. Another cool thing is that you can make use of giant wet navy vessles. Hopefully I can grow more out of it than a map and a kernel of an idea.

Interesting concept Warpimp. I've done something like this awhile ago, well a Mecha game based on Earth with SuperNations. If we are dividing the world by House regions I'd do things a little differently. Davion based in Great Britain is fine but they also have ties to France as well. Steiner would be based in Germany but not all of Continental Europe. Not only should the Davies have at least part of France IMO but Marik also should have a European base. They come from Prague and have a strong ties to the Hapsburgs so they may have Austria-Hungary (plus or minus Steiner Austria), Spain, parts of Italy (split between Marik and Steiner), and the Balkans. Then there is Rasalhague or Scandinavia - are they independent or part of Kurita? Russia and most of Asia being Liao is a natural fit. There is a Russian contingent in Kurita space as well though so a small part of the Pacific coast for them? India shouldn't be Kurita but Marik and Davion. With Regulas, and Bolan once in their space, I'd recommend Northern India and Pakistan go to the House Marik. Davion with the United Hindu Collective would control the Southern half. The Middle East is a tough call with the Azami being part of Kurita and Steiner it could suggest them. Vega which belongs to Kurita could indicate Egypt. There are a couple of Turkish planets within the Free Worlds League so Turkey and parts of some other Turkic countries could be Marik. Robinson for the Davions or Zion for the Mariks might indicate Israel is part of either or both of their Houses. I like Marik have control of South America as Oriente is there. North America is likely mostly Davion but parts like the Southwestern (Worlds) could be Marik.

Welcome aboard!

Cameron could have been the one world government now gone. The Taurians should be colonists from Mars. Not sure about the Outworlds and the Magistracy or where Amaris was from.

Great suggestions, some of the things I did (like india to Kurita) was for balance issues. I like all of those ideas, however, the biggest thing is North America, as I really don't want the "United States" as such in the game as there is no analogue in the BT universe. Maybe it could be like the chaos march, something that everyone is fighting over with a bunch of micro states in between. I really need to work on the map though, that is the real hook I think.

Why do I want to create a steampunk Battletech setting?  ;D

Steampunk would be awesome, just the image of a company of Warhammers disembarking from their trains is enough for me. Maybe more of a dieselpunk though, lots of chances to use Naval Support Vehicle rules as well as giant airship aircraft carriers.

The United States would be the Terran Hegemony, House McKenna or House Cameron since the old Hegemony worlds are described as similar to the US frontier and huge development which got all but wiped out in the First Succession war which is why no US Succession State

The split US being fought over would be a great match for what happened at the start of the 1st
