Very sweet, it amazes me when people come up with this kinda stuff this well thought out in such a short time.

But now for some reason I just want to play BattleTech "Australia"

Very awesome map! Another cool thing is that you can play in real world locations by printing out a real world satellite image with the hexes on it.

Now, you only need a good explanation for the reason behind the borders :D

So where is the "Mercenary's Star"? I vote for Casablanca or Freetown. And maybe Los Angeles for Solaris?

Perhaps Comstar is only game in town for travel off planet and they provide the key components for fusion plants?

Just a quick story to test the waters.

200 Kilometers south of Nashville, Tennessee
Federated States

0300 27 July 2773

The gigantic humanoid robot trudged it's way from the bottom of the Mississippi River onto the Eastern Shore. Lieutenant James Vesper righted his Battlemaster. The machine was manufactured two hundred years prior deep in the Hesperus facility deep inside the Cascade Mountains. The two-and-a-half ton gyroscope whined as it used his own sense of balance to keep the Assault Mech' upright, he opened a channel to rest of his lance.

"All Vader elements, this is Vader 6, everyone make it out ok?" Vader was the shorthand for the Mercenary unit's moniker "Big Jimmy's Invaders"- LT. Vesper wasn't the most creative man off the Battlefield.

"Vader 6 this is Vader 1, got mine through." relpied Sergeant Rollins. Sergeant Rollins piloted a much lighter Pheonix Hawk.

The rest of the Lance checked in in a similar manner, with Sergeants Wilkins and Grebowski checking in and giving a status on their pair of Stingers.

"All elements, this is Vader 6, as per our intel the ambush point should be about 14 klicks to the south west. Rollins, go ahead and take point, little guys on the flanks and I'll bring up the rear. Lets get moving, we're burning daylight, so to speak." He went over the briefing from his employer the Chinese Confederation. There was a convoy of raw coal and iron from Kentucky mines being moved to the industrial complexes of Birmingham. Thier mission was to go to a point along the suspected route and ambush the convoy and move back to the Confederation Base in Jonesboro.

After about half an hour the sensors on his Battlemaster detected a contact. After letting the computer do it's thing, it gave it's best guess that there were two Warrior VTOLs inbound. "All Vader elements, be aware there are two bogeys inbound, little birds, but keep your head on the swivel."

He turned his Mech' towards the attackers and began moving into the treeline they had been following. The three lighter mechs lurched and jumped into the air. The white-hot plasma from their fusion reactors being channeled through a small opening pushing them 180 meters into the trees.

Moments later, the two VTOLs opend fire, the hum of thier 25mm Autocannons sounding like the ripping of a canvas in the night air. One of them managed to hit the Vespers' mech but the small bore cannon could do little to the giant machine's ten-plus tons of diamond-hard armor. He allowed the helos to close as he lined up a shot with his Particle Projection Cannon. The machines capacitators hummed as it charged. He watched his reticle light green as the computer found the firing solution and he released a shot of man-made lightening into the Warrior. The small vehicle didn't stand a chance. As he began to line up his next shot the ground next to him erupted--trees flying every which way. A moment later another explosion appeared destroyed the area to his rear. "Crap boy's they got Long Toms out there somewhere! We gotta wax that other VTOL and beat feet outta here!"

Thats all the time I have for this afternoon. Hope it was enjoyable.

I suspect that the Solaris equivalent is Las Vegas.
The Mercenary Star might be Zanzibar

If you want some neutrals

ComStar - I'd say Hilton Head Island (traditional) North America, Cape Canaveral (Space control) and Geneva/Switzerland always been neutral.

House Cameron - Optional additional maybe a remnant/offshoot of the UN or something - Control over Unity City and something in the Centre of Australia trying to keep the factions apart (mini Inner Sphere)

Mercenary Star - Zanzibar sounds fun

Solaris - Las Vegas would be so much fun they turn the whole city into a live fire zone for fun

Also for fun Antartica needs an owner or is that a play ground?

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

It's hard to tell on this scale but I marked Vancouver Island (Unity City) and Hilton Head in White for ComStar.

Maybe just the whole Washington State/Canada border area Unity City was supposed to be rather big

Hilton Head no idea how big it was

God, that map is mess. Certainly puts Orwell's to shame. So much for consolidated borders.  ;)

The one world BattleTech thing can be good fun. It can be an easy way to include or correct  fasanomics on a scale that can still maintain the "BT Flavor" if the planet is screwed up enough.

Nice map.
I am just curious if having divided and chaotic States is "plausible" or if we can find a good explanation for it.
