taurian shipyards / reunification war era
« on: May 24, 2015, 08:02:37 PM »

its really been quite a while since I posted on this subject , so here I go .
mstr. a has new columbia as his primary shipbuilding yard for the tcn , though he says chandler shipbuilding has about a dozen secondary yards as refit sites but no locations given . really nice group of ships ma . now irose , takiro and dc have some really nice ships , but no shipbuilder or location .
the reason i'm asking for help here is i've finally got a group together locally to play with . they keep asking questions I just don't have the answers to . most are vets like myself , so they want to know where thus and such is built at . so if you nice folks could help me out , you don't know how thankful I would be .

I will throw this question to Irose as he is my acknowledged Taurian expert.  ;)

Canon shipyards- (RW era)
Horsham- "last major shipyard outside the Hyades Cluster" per Periphery 1e
Illiushin - produced the Winchester - per TR3057R
Taurus almost certainly had a shipyard, and there may have been several others in the cluster. H:RW refers to "extensive shipyard complexes within the Hyades Cluster"

Possible shipyards-
Pleiades Cluster - heavily industrialized this was another possible location for a shipyard
Robsart - again an important world with "numerous artificial satelites) per H:RW

Most of mine were attributed to Taurus Shipyards in the Hyades Cluster.

Unfortunately the reference to Horsham as the last major shipyard outside the cluster ruled out a lot of other places having shipyards- personally I would put shipyards at Pinard, New Vandenberg, Macleod's Land, possibly Lothair, Montour and the Badlands Cluster.  But none of those worlds, except Lothair,  were captured by the time Horsham fell.  Even Illiushin is difficult (once again poor research by the writers causes a problem.)  Illiushin is outside the cluster and (presumably) a major shipyard (since it did build the Winchester Cruiser).  But Horsham was captured in 2582 - Illiushin did not fall until 2589.  So one interpretation is that the Illiushin Shipyards were not at Illiushin but rather in the Hyades Cluster But on the flip side Illiushin is a great place for a shipyard since it shares it's name with Ilyushin - a Russian airplane designer and manufacturer. (The spelling differences could be due to the transliteration of the name.)

One thing to consider is that the yards in other systems could have been destroyed before the fall or Horsham, even though those systems were not taken.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

I will admit that is a possibility but there is currently no evidence of that in any of the source material.  In fact there is no evidence of any raiding by the SLDF during the Concordat campaign.  It appears the SLDF was afraid of small operations against the TC during the war, probably due to a combination of not wanting to fall for another Case Amber and the Concordat's willingness to use Fireships and the like to defend their worlds.
