Obamacare (A.K.A. Affordable Care Act)
« on: November 06, 2013, 01:13:42 AM »

O.K. Now that we see you won't necessarily be able to keep your own insurance policy prior to Obamacare and that you'll likely be paying more for your policy, what's next?

...I don't know, but as a Canadian, I'm starting to get very worried about politics, here in Canada and abroad.  Without going into specifics, I don't like what I think I see coming at all.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

It won't last much longer. Maybe another year before it becomes insolvent and repealed in chunks.

Coming from where I do, I find it funny that such a vocal segment America thinks universal health care is so repugnant.  What is so bad about caring for those who cannot care for themselves?

Well just because something is called universal health care doesn't necessarily mean that it is. ;)

Won't somebody please think of the children!!!

Let me rant on how they are gonna pay for this stupendous act.

I mean the logic of having young healthy people pay for it is tremendous if we are in 1950s America but we ain't. Jobs are harder and harder to come by today for these folks who still gotta pay off huge college debts for degrees they may never fully utilize. So why not pay the fine or better yet have your tax return schemed so you have to pay the government at years end. The IRS can't come after you to pay the fine they can only take it punitively if you have the government withhold too much of your salary at years end.

This whole misadventure is bought to you by the road to hell - paved with the best of intentions!

Hm. As German I see the use of such a system, however, the current administration seems to be as entangled in financial webs that this might hurt the people more.
But then, it cannot be that cheap as how many million people are currently without any insurance?

Anyway, generally, the president has been quite a letdown for all the praise he got before, esp. in foreign policy which does not interest that many Americans but has an impact on many more people.

Perhaps the Care project turns out nicely, I hope it for the people there. But I certainly am skeptic about it.

It isn't the affordable care act itself that is the problem.  It is the governments 30 year love of spending money it doesn't have.  Very soon we will be in so much debt it will make the Greek financial collapse look like a walk in the park.  If we don't stop spending money we don't have and start paying off the debt the days of the American dollar being "the" world money are over.  Just ask the UK how it fared when the world switched from pounds to dollars.

The dollar is already well on the way to not being  'the' go-to currency as the Euro is gaining ground in that category.

...Cheer up.  The second half of the the cuts ordered by the American sequester (sp?) are to take effect in 2014, and agencies that had enough change rattling around in the drawers to get by without a problem are now left without recourse and will have to make cuts to staff and spending.  At least its still unlikely to be the Chinese currency like some warn/threaten.

Here in Canada, according to Conservative party leaks, it will be harder to form unions, and easier for the gov't to prevent strikes.  I'm not a union hardliner like one of my in-laws, but I find that fairly ominous.

We have systems in place for those who can't care for themselves. This act pays for people who WON'T care for themselves. Welfare pimps who use the system to not work and drift through life. The actual percentage of impoverished people who "slip through the cracks" is minimal.

Also, not sure if you know how this works. The truly poor (meaning they have $0 income) are shuffled into the Medicaid expansion. Those people will have coverage and must go to the worst hospitals in our country to get it. I've been to our local county hospital. Minimum 8 hour wait, even for something serious like a stab wound. They had a story of someone dying in the waiting room a few years back. That's the "quality" of care you get from the PPACA.

America isn't a socialist country and we don't want to be one.

The NHS doesn't have 20+ million illegal Mexicans, Dominicans, Haitians, Hondurans, etc. bleeding the system dry without paying a dime into its coffers. We have laws that state you must be cared for if you enter an ER, as long as it's a catastrophic injury like a gun shot or heart attack. These folks come in, get care and leave without paying a bill. You think I want to pay extra taxes so people can get free stuff? Maybe you do, but that's why you're there and I'm here. :)

By all means, enjoy. :) That's why we have countries, so people can live as they please apart from others.
