What are the different ethnic groups living in the Rim Worlds Republic and the in the Rim Protectorate?

In Turn they tested each Clan namesake in trial against the Ice Hellion's mettle. Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down. All failed to match the predator's speed and grace. Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."

Well Ice I was just over at CBT and it seems that TPTB agree with my assessment that a substantial amount of Terrans settled the RWR after the Reunification War. The early composition of the Republic government seemed to be styled on ancient Greece although I'm not sure if there were any ethnic Greeks. There is also a Scottish angle (of course this is BT) on Somerset who was settled by way of natives who fled Loxley after a Lyran assault who early fled Stewart after a Marik assault. Quite a journey yes. There also seems to be quite an Eastern influence as well to the RWR. Some have suggested Mongolian but Central Asian would certainly be interesting.

The only statement I've ever seen in a canon source related to the ethnic makeup of the RWR was in Handbook House Steiner.
"Its denizens hail largely from a mix of German, Italian and Eastern European roots, whose starfaring ancestors found the wide
expanse a haven for their various cultures. Also included in the region are many former Rim Worlds planets, whose ethnicities were far more varied." (Pg. 73)
So we know that the ethnic background of the RWR was polygot even by Battletech standards. Individual worlds were probably settle by one or two ethnic groups, and had little in common with their neighbors. The exceptions would have been the core area around Apollo where the original settlers moved in en masse at the start of the Republic, and Stefan Amaris's personal colonies settled during the end of the Star League. In the latter case, those worlds would have been more uniformly settled by groups loyal to Amaris himself, and would have had a common culture.
As for the Greek angle, while I'm sure there was at least one world with such a population, I doubt they had a big influence on the overall culture. Modern and Ancient Greece are two very different civilizations afterall. Most Greeks in the Batttech universe seemed to have settled in the FWL, CC and MoC, and that where their cultural roots are the strongest.

That Mongolian influence being limited mainly to those terrible images of Stephan and the loose written descriptions of his personage in print. TPTB kind of patterned the git after Genghis Khan, making parallels between the Genghis's destruction of the Abbasid Caliphate and that of the Terran Hegemony. (Both we're more or less at their peak, with poor rulers at the time)
And to forestall argument or objection, I'm only looking at the big picture here. The manner of their respective destruction obviously differed...

Dang it. Well I guess this isn't a historical convention anyway. I mean if it were there'd be a lot more booze. Grin
