Yeah they don't have much that is for sure. Maybe they will get their old worlds back one day! But for now they are lucky if they can beat back the odd pirate attack.

Well I got to look it up but I think the RP population was given in Project Phoenix. For starters I would divide that number by the number of worlds the RP has. I will look that up.

Oky got a little of it done just working on the Reunification War part and was looking at it getting used by Star League dureing  the war as a rapid response base and home to some of those Frontier castle brians was thinking just 1 or 2 at most

System Name: Blackstone
Coordinates: -125.30, 477.50
Star Type: F8II
Position in System:
Time to Jump Point: 23hrs
Recharging Station: none
Population: 1000000
Percentage and Level of Native Life: Amphibians
Description:
The Blackstone system was named by a member of the Inarcs ruling family Robert Blackstone III. He choose to name it Blackstone in honor of his mother who recently died and  that the planet reminded him of home planet of Inarcs with its large amount of water with only a number of islands the rough size of Australia .
The planet became a tourist spot prior to the Reunification War with large numbers of people coming to see its large sea side beaches. Also the Blackstone Industries set up a number of mining operations on the Isles of Black Hills. With its short travel time to jump points and its large number of beach front area it was well received as a retreat and as a first class vacation spot at the very edge of known space .

Tourism in the RWR? I don't see it. Just because of the low standard of living mentioned in the Periphery SB. Blackstone is probably a miners paradise at first but as minerals became harder to reach that industry died off. See the RWR never had the industry of normal realms but it has innumerable planets to exploit. I have no problem with an Outpost Castle on planet. Just don't get to crazy. SLDF main base was in Star's End and Dark Nebula IMO.

With its short travel time to jump points and its large number of beach front area it was well received as a retreat and a first class vacation spot at the edge of known space.
During the Reunification War the planets tourism quickly dried up and as it was one of the mining worlds suppling the enemy it was quicky targeted by the Star League troops . Star League marines where assigned the planet early on and resistence was light as the blackstone family was loyal to the league and help make the league troops welcomed. After the war the league left a small command of marines and army engineers and built a Outpost Castle to help them hold the planet. Five years after the end of the war the planet was returned to the control of Rim World Republic forces and the Amaris family. The republic's return was with a vengence as the Amaris family viewed the planets loyalty to the Star league as a insult. The Amaris family first limited travel to the planet with reports of civil unrest and pirate raids this effectivly kill the planets tourism. The Amaris family then also took control of the Blackstone mining operation and started to assign polical prisoners to work in unsafe enviroment which lead to a high rate of death.
The control of Blackstone wouldn't shift again untill after the Amaris coup with a number of star league commands raiding the republic worlds in advance of the assualt from SLDF. One  of theses raids landed the 104th striker reg on the world of Blackstone where it easly defeated the few republic troops stationed to be a police force over the mining operation. With the defeat of the republic troops the strikers withdrew to raid else where . The population of the planet explored the remains of the mining operation and the isles it was on and found the remains of millions of bodys in mass graves buried there by the republic troops. The survivers found at the mines was taken back to main islands of the planet. The SLDF main body arrived and they tried to get the planets populations to return to the mines but no one would return to them . This action caused the SL to leave only a token force to defend the planet as it went on to liberate earth.
With the liberation of earth and the later on exodus of most of the Star League Defense Forces. The planet of blackstone as the rest of the planets left from the republic have been reborn into a new government with the backing of the Terran Republic called the Rim Protectorate.
The planetary government of Blackstone is currently attempting to build up there planets economic from the ashes of the republic. In this pursuit the planet has found a small friend  in the form of the Royal Commonwealth Shipping Company and a Privateer group made up of ex-SL naval personal. The two groups have purchased the isle's of Black Hills with the intent to reopen the mining operations there and the Isle known as the Cameron's Belt a chain of islands that go around the center of the planet and appear to be a belt with the largest island as its buckle . It was named that by the orginal star league troops during there stay on planet after the Reunification War. The star league engineers even made it so if you were in orbit looking down at the buckle island it has the crest of the star league engraved into it. The island also has the Outpost Castle named Sparrow located near the military spaceport of Jake. The planet as part of the payment for saleing theses islands to the group get a share of the profits from the mining operation and also a self defense force  supplied by the Rogers believed to be the 29th CAAN reg. Of some concern to the locals is the fact to operate the mining operation the shipping company has taken to offering the job to refugee's looking for a new home strangly enough a large number of theses refugee's are from Inarcs.

You need to pick a different CAAN regiment- I'm already using the 29th in the Taurian Concordat and they are remaining there after the Exodus.

Sorry about that. I should have picked that up. CAAN regiments might be difficult to find. How about an irregular or special forces formation. SAS, SOAR, DSC??

Hey Lord Grayson. Sorry it is taking so long for me to get back to you. Getting UNR done for a new cycle. Anyway. You put a lot of thought into this write up. Nice job.

I get the picture this planet is a real raw vacation spot. Low tech but biological beautiful for some of its native or imported life and planetary geology. Mining industry sounds logical as well. Sun type and jump time I have to look up.

Historically I find the Star League wanting to take the planet fine but it is backwater. Well beyond Apollo. And the Blackstone family was loyal to Star League? Interesting but I could actually see that. Since Amaris went out of their way to pretend loyalty to the League maybe the Blackstones actually were loyal. It is possible. However the populace of many nearby systems or other Rim Worlds would not be happy. They would always remember Blackstone as a traitor planet to their nation. I could see substanial foreign investment afterwards especially by Terrans. Also sizable imigration for this frontier resort. Might actually have some tech then but it is probably the planets own guide line to keep things natural and unsophisticated. Sort of like Hunter's Paradise? I doubt Amaris would start labor camps to punish the civilians. He would actually try to highlight this planet as proof of loyalty to the Camerons. Might secretly look down on them and they would never get any secret military facilities. When Stefan takes over after the Coup he or the Regent Mohammed Selim might order tourists (hostages) rounded up and put to work. Who is Royal Commonwealth Shipping Company? Cameron's Belt is a neat construction project. Heavy investment and construction. I wouldn't want my Castle Brian there however. Can you say target? Shouldn't it be Jack not Jake if your going for the PoC angle your trying to make. Have you come up with another name for the unit yet? Keep up the good writing. Wink

Looked up your star as well. F (Yellow-White) 8 Subtype has a 12 day journey to zenith or nadir jump point. Also your luminosity (II) indicates a Bright Giant.

I get the picture this planet is a real raw vacation spot. Low tech but biological beautiful for some of its native or imported life and planetary geology. Mining industry sounds logical as well. Sun type and jump time I have to look up.

On the sun and distance from Jump point I coulnd't find any data other then it say 0.0days to jumppoint figured just ment under 1 days since I can't see a zero transit time. The star type I got listed is actually a star to a different system  Inarcs since I couldn't find a listing for the sun type in that system  ( I see U found them,is that for the star I posted or Blackstones actual sun will update the planet info with the correct stats )

Historically I find the Star League wanting to take the planet fine but it is backwater. Well beyond Apollo.

I was thinking along the lines that it could serve as a Rest and recovery planet for the Star league troops during the war and after it , also serve as a base for anti-pirate operations as well as a luanching point for deep space exploration , (could the deep space cavalry been based here and attacked when the coup was launched)

As for loyalty to Star league or was blackstone family just trying save there mining operation from getting damaged . Ur call Smiley

I could see substanial foreign investment afterwards especially by Terrans. Also sizable imigration for this frontier resort. Might actually have some tech then but it is probably the planets own guide line to keep things natural and unsophisticated. Sort of like Hunter's Paradise?

Truthfully I never even gave this area a thought for after the war foreign investments. I was thinking along the lines of Hunter's Paradise with people just wanting to escape to a world of oceans and beach's as long as they didn't go to the Black Hills Isle's

Amaris choose to covertly damage the planets eco with false reports of pirates raids, and  the Amaris family took control of the Blackstone mining operation and used criminals and  polictal prisoners to operate the mines not ppl from the planet

Who is Royal Commonwealth Shipping Company?

Its part of the Jolly Rogers privateer unit its listed at the buttom of the write up on them. I should of just put it down as the Jolly's buying the land .

Cameron's Belt is a neat construction project. Heavy investment and construction.

What can I say the Star League army core of eng's where bored and mother nature made the belt the league just carved a design into it Smiley

I wouldn't want my Castle Brian there however. Can you say target?

Ah its going to be a target anywhere its posted at Smiley

Shouldn't it be Jack not Jake if your going for the PoC angle your trying to make.

AH dam didn't notice I made that mistake

Have you come up with another name for the unit yet? Keep up the good writing.

I'm really confused on why the unit can't be named the 29th . I understand the orginal 29th is in TC. But the Jollys are about honor loyatly and duty as well as tradition. They consider the orginal 29th a disgrace to the honor of the SL and desided to rebuild a CAAN reg and name it the 29th to repair the damage done to the marines honor that the 29th did . I also wouldn't ever want to be a member of the orginal 29th and run into the Jolly Rogers they will be shot on sight. Treason to them has only one answer. But if need be I can just drop the royal and have them named the 8th CAAN in honor of there old battle partners

Rim Protectorate World
System Name: Blackstone
Coordinates: -125.30, 477.50
Star Type: F8II
Position in System: 4th
Time to Jump Point: 12 day
Recharging Station: none
Waystation :  zenith
Population: 1000000
Planetary Government: Republic
Current Ruler : Rebecca Blackstone (Countess)
Exports : ore,sea food,and watercraft
Percentage and Level of Native Life: Amphibians
Description:
The Blackstone system was named by a member of the Inarcs ruling family Robert Blackstone III. He choose to name it Blackstone in honor of his mother who recently died and that the planet reminded him of home planet of Inarcs with its large amount of water with only a number of islands the rough size of Australia .
The planet became a tourist spot prior to the Reunification War with large numbers of people coming to see its large sea side beaches. Also the Blackstone Industries set up a number of mining operations on the Isles of Black Hills.
This takeover stunted the eco of the planet as the income from the mine went straight to the amaris family coffers instead of the planets government. The planetary government would get some aid in the form of TH investors as well as the SLDF buillding and maintaining a small outpost on the planet for security and explorations.
The population of the planet explored the remains of the mining operation and the isles it was on and found the remains of thousands of bodys in mass graves buried there by the republic troops.
The planet of blackstone as are the rest of the planets left from the republic have been reborn into a new government with the backing of the Terran Republic called the Rim Protectorate.
The island is also home to the Outpost Castle named Sparrow located near the military spaceport of Jack. The planet gets as part of the payment for saleing theses islands to the group  a share of the profits from the mining operation and also a self defense force  supplied by the Rogers . Of some concern to the locals is the fact to operate the mining operation the shipping company has taken to offering the job to refugee's looking for a new home strangly enough a large number of theses refugee's are from Inarcs.

I'll have to go over the Jolly Rogers again Lord Grayson. Primarily we don't name units after others or have two running around with the same name because it is confusing. There isn't much canon info about Blackstone. That is for sure. Not sure about the Recharge Station. They would be pretty rare. Because of your unit I'd be willing to say that they salvaged or built one somehow. Not a bad job on the write up. You could say the natives or nearby immigrants are so desperate for work that they have taken up Privateering or Piracy. Perhaps a large part of the Protectorate is involved in such activities.  Wink

One of the RWR Mechwarrior Training Academies was Gutara Academy on Gutara V. {p. 38-39 HB: Major Periphery States}
According to the Battlecorps story "The Last Stop" it was a top-secret facility that was discovered by the SLDF in 2785, right before they left the Inner Sphere for good.

Found this in CBT was wondering does the SL tell the republic about this planet and also where is it going to be relations to the Rim (who knows they might get a actually real military school from this place)

Gutara was discovered after the SLDF left so I doubt they told anyone about it. As for it's location is is probably north of the OWA given the path of the SLDF fleet- it is almost certainly way outside of the Rim's borders.

Thanks Irose. Gutara was originally mentioned in the SLSB and Irose is quite right on the location. It is a distant world on the very fringe of human occupied space and was home to a Periphery BattleMech Academy which trained freedom fighters (aka rebel scum) to throw off the Star League yoke.

Been working hard in several different directions, which I don't recommend to anyone. Anyway I was analyzing numbers of the maps given in HBMPS and I've got some interesting results. Now according to Combat Operations (Fanpro 10970) the Rim Republic had 248 inhabited worlds under its control in 2750. However I can only find 243 of those worlds on page 25 of HBMPS if my math is correct. Again according to my calculations and someone is more than welcomed to double check the Apollo Province has 111 worlds, the Finmark Province has 45 worlds, the Timbuktu Province has 67 worlds, and the new (not on the 2571 map shown on page 18 of HBMPS) Erdvynn Province has 20 worlds.

Now the current BTSD break down of the Republic in 2785 has the Apollo Province dissolve into three zones of control. The Rim Protectorate controls 35 worlds while the Lyrans occupy 46 worlds and 30 worlds go their own way (aka interstellar anarchy). The worlds of the other Provinces either are annexed by the Lyrans or have broken away from the Republic. The Commonwealth occupies 16 worlds of the Finmark Province while 29 worlds opt for freedom. Likewise the Lyrans get 26 worlds in the Timbuktu Province as 41 worlds break away. Finally the Erdvynn Province has 13 independent worlds with 7 worlds occupied by House Steiner.

So for some grand totals. 95 worlds taken by the Lyran Commonwealth, 35 worlds protected by the Terran Republic, and 113 worlds of the Rim go their own way. Thoughts?

Side issue: Is there any discussion of the new regions carved out in the HBMPS? For example the Rim Provinces, Taurian Unions, Magistracy District and Provinces, and Outworlds Provinces. I can see them on the map but can't find any reference to how they are administered.

Conclusions on Rim Expansion: The spread of the Rim Worlds likely had a lot to do with their neighbors. Lets face it even though the Combine was an Amaris ally expansion towards that aggressive realm doesn't seem all that rewarding. Why would you want to tempt fate or the Dragon with nice new colonies right next door? You wouldn't in my opinion plus if I remember the stellar regions of the BattleTech map correctly the Draconis Rift didn't have all that many planets in the first place and they could have been poorer in nature. On the other hand you have the Anti Spinward Arm you have Lyran industry and Marik traders which would undoubtly help the Republic grow. Hence their subsequent growth. Thoughts?

From what I've seen in Handbooks Steiner and Marik (waiting for HBMPS to arrive in deadtree form) this sounds certainly possible to me.

But sheer coincidence might also play a role:
I assume that more rewarding planets would be colonized first.
If those planets aren't clustered in a region but are spread out in a string this might also have something to do with the unusual shape of the RWR.

Just my two € cents....

Greetings

That sounds about right- some of the "independents" are probably also minor 2-6 world states.

I don't know that we know much about this- the OWA provinces sent representatives to the governing board (don't have my books and can't remember the exact role but it is mentioned in the various perp books).  As for the TC and MOC we know they had provinces (it's mentioned in the original Periphery book) but no real mention how they work.

Agreed Irose there are likely smaller states like the Chainelaine Isles out there somewhere on the Rim.

You are right about the OWA, I do recall about their representation on the ruling council or some such. But what of the RWR, TC, and the MoC? Seems like we are left to guess at the nature of their internal political division.

I figure in the TC the Unions were used for handling local matters, much like states in the US, with the Taurian government having final say.

Not sure about the MOC- it probably didn't play an important role since they seem to have been disbanded by the 31st century.

113 independent?
Even with mini States, I think it might be a bit too much (unless they are really poor and worth nothing).

What about some of them hosting fanatics ready to relieve the Great RWR?

Sure some of them have fanatics wanting to rebuild the RWR- see Von Strang's World (AKA Erin).  But 113 "independent" worlds is completely reasonable- after the SLDF left the RWR fell apart- the central government, such as it was -see HB:MPS for more details, collapse and the worlds not claimed by the LC (and the TR in SD) went their separate ways.

There are mini states Ice but you should be aware of a powerful factor that disrupts such come back attempts. I have hinted at it before and shall expound later in this thread.

For now here is a map of the RWR from HBMPS with inkage denoting BTSD borders in 2785. Enjoy!

Rim Factions
Here are the three national factions that have been established for Rim Worlds in general. Next up I will detail Outsiders on the Rim. Wink

Republican – The Rim Worlds has long held a tradition of representative governance that House Amaris and its allies could never really extinguish. Defeated during the Reunification War the Republicans once again rose to prominence after the Coup. Their grasp on power was tenuous at best and after the departure of the SLDF this faction was crippled by Lyran assaults, the return of the Loyalists, and the emergence of the Separatist.

Loyalist – Over the centuries House Amaris carefully fostered a network of fanatics throughout their realm. While these pro-Amaris forces were run off by a vengeful General Kerensky they laid in wait and struck when the SLDF departed. The aim of these extremists is to restore their fallen sovereign even though no known Amaris successor exists.

Separatist – The Byzantine politics of the Rim Worlds combined with the treachery of House Amaris produced this faction bent on annihilating any form of interstellar government. They really don't seek anarchy but true planetary independence - they are convinced that interstellar government is a bad thing for humanity. Surprisingly they might be the most coherent faction on the Rim thanks to their decentralized organization.

Outsiders

Terran – These outlanders have long had a presence in the Rim Worlds which ironically began with an Amaris. During the Star League the Hegemony started a significant settlement project which helped the Republic expand. There has always been a disparity between these wealthy foreign settlers and the poorer natives of the Rim which has led to some natural antipathy. The Coup and subsequent liberation by the SLDF bought this group into close partnership with Rim Republicans. The thirty five world Rim Protectorate is the most notable example of this collaboration.

Lyrans – Moving to conclude their involvement in the Rim campaign the Commonwealth has had a long history of hostility with their Periphery neighbor. Thanks to memories the Reunification War and the current Republic-Commonwealth War it is really no surprise that the Lyrans enjoy little to no native support here. Despite this the LCAF and old guard supporters of Robert Steiner II maintain a hold on ninety five Rim Worlds. The Lyran Intelligence Corps (LIC) continues to destabilize the old Republic playing Rim factions against one another. The imprisonment of President Lucien Dormax and the capture of Apollo along with the Rim Parliament have bought the once mighty Periphery nation to the brink of collapse. Archon Jennifer Steiner has done much to consolidate these gains and try to wrap up operations here. Lyran recognition of the Rim Protectorate is just one of her moves designed to stamp out raiders on the Rim be they Draconians, Marik, or Pirates. Local Lyran Lords gaining their landholds or authority from Richard Steiner II not Jennifer Steiner are continuing to buck the Archon and Terran plans.

Draconians – During the Star League era many Draconis warriors tested their mettle against the expanses of the Periphery. Operating around the Coreward Arm of the Republic these individuals trained Amaris soldiers and sold arms to Periphery freedom fighters. House Kurita had secretly supported House Amaris since the regency of Tadeo by covertly providing various forms of assistance. While the Dragon or their minions might still back the Loyalists the Amaris Coup did much to destroy official Kurita backing.

Mariks – Merchants from the Free Worlds League have strong ties to the Anti-Spinward Arm of the Republic. Natural supporters of the Separatist cause these free traders prowl the space lanes of this region making all kinds of deals. Since the Exodus left the Rim without much interstellar transportation these merchants operate almost unopposed except for the random pirate or bandit group. They are the sole source of news and provide a valuable link to the Human Sphere when desired.

Maybe the Lyrans could also send merchants in the forefront of their advance (something like the traders of Foundation)?
