BattleMech Model Codification
« on: September 01, 2019, 08:27:48 PM »

I was thinking of establishing a thread for Lettering Mech Variants for our ongoing Optimization contests. Establishing Model Standards is something already done by canon examples below;

S = Steiner (Lyran Commonwealth)
D = Davion (Federated Suns)
K = Kurita (Draconis Combine)
M = Marik (Free Worlds League)
L = Liao (Capellan Confederation)

Does anyone else have canon citations for existing factions or suggestions for unestablished nations?

I have seen the following

T - Taurians
H- Marian Hegemony (for all of those Rocket Launcher refits)

I use MC (I've seen this once or twice for canon Canopian variants) or C for the Canopians and OA and A for the Outwords Alliance

The only thing I have seen canon for the OWA is the Corax fighter which has a -O

Is the Corax an OmniFighter? Even if O would make a certain amount of sense but I would tend to think A for Avellar or Alliance is best.

Is T canon for the Taurian Concordat?

I personally like C for Centrella or Canopus myself for the Magistracy designs.

H for Hegemony sort of makes sense.....

The T is canon- it is used on the TC's Clint variants, the LCT-5T, WHM-11T.  But other variants don't (Stinger STG-5R, Archer ARC-6W) So T is generally used but there are exceptions

The Corax is an omni-fighter.  You could justify the A through the Merlin which is the MLN-1A

For the MC I have seen MC used with the Koschei variant and MAF used on the Calliope.  That said they have so few homebrewed designs that you can easily justify using the C for them.

Sounds good. How about ComStar or the Word of Blake?

I read a similar topic somewhere else.
If I remember well, R was for Rim Worlds Republic.

I remember that speculation as well on one of the older (now crashed) CBT forums. If you look at the number of all the older designs which end in R the conclusion was that these were Amaris designs created in the buildup to the Coup (Periphery Uprising) and during the Liberation which followed. Can anyone else remember that or add thoughts here?

CS could be Comstar as its used for their Variant of Ostscout.

Its hard to say which are which though in Canon a lot of ones use things like G H or other random letters. I guess you could say that ones like already discussed are House based variants and the random others are Company based ones upon versions since inception or ones that worked from their conceptional variants.
