Howell is still saKhan of the Jags at this time. The Trial is a month after this report (January 1, 3053) is due. You can simply retitle him Star Admiral, commander of the Jaguar Fleet.

Already in the works but you can both help. Using Operation Revival as an example guys can you lay that out? It would give me a good template to draw from.

An Operational Plan of REVIVAL from the outset with an outline of strategic details (corridors, waves, time tables, bids, conflict resolution between corridors, etc) and discussion of how it would work and what you want to acheive (probably from Elias Crichell or Leo Showers according to the Jade Falcon Sourcebook)

Modifications during the Invasion such as activation of reserve Clans by ilKhan Ulric Kerensky and reasoning why.

Finally plan or proposal to resume this Operation immediately following Tukayyid again by Elias Crichell (and the Crusaders) as an alternate to RESTORATION which should include justifications of why the Truce is a sham and how REVIVAL is better requires fewer resources, etc..

Below is chapter 3 from Clarion Call which discusses RESTORATION but there are large details missing like the Quicksilver Program which unifies war production to enhance effectiveness.

Phelan looked over the capital city of the Wolf Clan Occupation Zone. It was a horrific reminder of what continued conflict with the InnerSphere could bring. Sadly the ancient birthplace of the Tamar Pact was reduced to rubble less than a year ago. The defenders had waged a brutal house to house campaign trying to stop the Wolves advance. Their effort proved futile but was costly to the urban center which incurred immense collateral damage. While the lower castes had worked hard to rebuild what they could much remained devastated. Further destruction had to be avoided.

WorkMechs, excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, and laborers continued to toil even as life for the denizens of Tamar City went on. It appeared more like a construction site than a city with few buildings standing. Aside from prefab living quarters scattered near the city’s edge only the Bloodnamed Hall of the Wolves was standing and even that was incomplete. All of these Clan constructs were unimaginative copies of existing structures which was the norm. Clan architecture seemed so monolithic to Phelan especially compared to what had been there before.

At least the streets were cleared and passable Phelan thought. saKhan Ward glanced over at his new aide, Star Colonel George Kerensky, as they approached the Council Hall. He wondered what this trueborn Clan warrior thought of all this destruction. A Wolf ristar Star Commander George had been a member of Alpha Galaxy along with Phelan during much of the invasion. His combat accomplishments included various intra-Clan trails, Operation Revival, and of course Tukayyid. In addition George was an ardent Warden who proudly pointed to the Clans’ heritage and rightful duty as guardians of the InnerSphere.

When Phelan was elevated to the rank of saKhan and command of Beta Galaxy he tapped George as the new commander of the 352nd Assault Cluster. As Phelan’s right hand man he had not disappointed winning his Trail of Position as a Star Colonel and his bloodname shortly afterwards. Together they had begun the difficult task of reforming Beta Galaxy, which had been fervently Crusader, along Warden lines. Many Beta Crusaders like saKhan Garth Radick had been killed or severely wounded like Star Colonel Erik Kerensky. The former commander of the 352nd was so badly hurt that Clan warriors considered him dead.

As the officers from Beta Galaxy strode into the Khan’s Chamber they were greeted by the ilKhan. Ulric Kerensky had called this meeting to come up with proactive solutions to the Crusader threat. It had only been a week since the impromptu Grand Kurultai on Diosd had settled on the fall out from Tukayyid. By the slimmest of margins the Clans decided not to abrogate the Truce in light of ComStar’s actions. For now a fragile peace had been established but just how long this status quo would last was anybody’s guess. The Crusaders would surely press for a resumption of hostilities as soon as possible.

The ilKhan had gathered some of the Wolf Clans finest to formulate a Warden strategy that would counter the inevitable challenge. Those in attendance included Khan Natasha Kerensky, now commander of the Wolves Alpha Galaxy, whose legendary presence needed no introduction. Her top aide, Star Colonel Marco Hall, had recently been promoted to command of the 13th Wolf Guards Cluster also known as the feared Wolf Spiders. Star Colonel Jera Carns the commander of the 4th Wolf Guards Cluster was also present despite being wounded at Tukayyid. Her determination made her a fearsome presence in nearly any environment. As the consort of the ilKhan her input would not be ignored.

These were the top figures representing Alpha Galaxy who were now Phelan’s chief rivals in the Wolf Clan touman. Despite his Alpha Galaxy origins he looked forward to renewing the traditional competition between the Galaxies. Of course, saKhan Ward wouldn’t rest until Beta had bested his old Galaxy. Galaxy Commander John Ward of Delta and Galaxy Commander Anton Fetladral of Epsilon were invited to give their opinions. The only front line command not represented was Gamma Galaxy where Crusaders held sway.

“Please be seated” the ilKhan began “thank you all for coming on such short notice. Over the next fifteen years we are obligated to uphold the Truce of Tukayyid but threats to this momentary peace abound both from within and out.” Galaxy Commander John Ward perhaps the haughtiest Warden wasted no time stating “Our ultimate goal should be an end to this foolish invasion, Operation Revival is a failure.” While the comment was accurate the thought of losing was distasteful to any Clansman that it drew sharp rebuke. “What do you propose Galaxy Commander Ward, that we meekly tuck tail and run, quineg?” said Khan Natasha Kerensky.

Such a comment from a lesser officer would have sparked a Trail of Grievance undoubtedly but not even Clan warriors were so quick to challenge the Black Widow. Biting his lip Galaxy Commander Ward responded “Neg, Khan Kerensky I did not mean to imply such a cowardly course of action”. Phelan interjected “Unfortunately we are saddled with this Crusader nonsense and must stay the course”. “Sir, I respectfully disagree.” Shocked many present starred down Star Colonel Kerensky but the ilKhan motioned for him to continue. “Operation Revival is a failure, we should say so, and develop a new operational scheme to achieve our goals.”

Incredulous, Galaxy Commander Fetladral spoke up “The Crusaders will not lay idly bye and watch us end their holy Crusade to restore the Star League.” “I was not suggesting we should Galaxy Commander but we have to beat the Crusaders at their own game, quiaff?” As the room was clearly his Star Colonel Kerensky continued “One of the biggest flaws of the initial invasion was not all the Clans were included. The task was so significant that all the Clans should have been included from the outset.” Star Colonel Jera Carns protested “The InnerSphere would be slaughtered in such an event; I thought we were gathered here to prevent such a holocaust, aff?”

“Aff, Star Colonel, we are Wardens whose sacred duty is to protect the InnerSphere – a birthright inherited from the SLDF. Given the set of circumstances that lay before us I am trying to outline the best plan forward.” “I think I see where Star Colonel Kerensky is going” Star Colonel Hall said “he is redefining the invasion into a Warden instrument”. “Oh, I like it” said Natasha with a devilish smirk. “I am afraid I do not understand” exclaimed a puzzled Galaxy Commander Fetladral “why include all the Clans it intensifies the conflict, quiaff?” Before George could respond saKhan Ward interjected “If a portion of the Clans are defeated then others could mistakenly believe they could succeed.”

Star Colonel Kerensky nodded “All the Clans must participate in the Crusade or they will not learn that its very concept is flawed.” With an approving gesture the ilKhan turned to him “So how would we precede Star Colonel? You seem to be on a roll.” Smiling the Star Colonel rose to assemble his notes remarking “ilKhan, I did indeed come prepared.” The remark drew laughter from the assembly. “May I present Operation Restoration for your review? Essentially we will steal the Crusaders thunder and give them a painful series of lessons to keep them occupied during the Truce.”

“Phase one would see the Invading Clans square off for the right to command an invasion corridor which would remain unaltered from Operation Revival. The main contest for these routes designated Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta would likely be between Jade Falcon/Steel Viper and Smoke Jaguar/Nova Cat. Trails to settle this issue could take as much as a year. These primary Clans would have twenty front line Clusters to advance their claim as the ilClan along with any number of Garrison Clusters they require to maintain their holdings. After the issue of corridor leadership is determined the Home Clans would be bought in as allies.”

Clearing his throat he continued “These Clans would have five front line Clusters to forward their position in the InnerSphere along with Garrison Clusters. These pairings will likely result in a series of Territory Wars that will establish each Clan’s holdings in the InnerSphere. It will likely take a year for these forces to assemble and reach the Corridors. It could be some time perhaps three to five years for the Trails of Possession to shake themselves out. Also during this time the Home Clans would receive training and possibly undertake raids into the InnerSphere.”

“Finally after these territorial squabbles have been resolved we launch the final wave of Operation Revival which will take the Clans right up to the Truce line. This large scale action will allow us to gauge the Spheroids response and help us prepare for a renewed invasion. Stacalkas-Nomen as the Jags call it would begin May 21, 3067 – fifteen years to the day after ComStar’s victory on Tukayyid.” Natasha looked over at Phelan “I should not have let you take him from my Galaxy.” saKhan Ward chuckled “I will defend any attempt to retake the Star Colonel with all my available forces.”

Galaxy Commander John Ward had his doubts “Seizing the initiative in this way could prove dangerous and this plan is anything but full proof. I could very well see this spinning out of control and devolving into an orgy of Crusader bloodlust. Better to stay the course and deal with problems as they come.” Phelan realized “We can not just sit on our hands, the Clans our warriors and will demand chances for combat. Some outlet must be provided, quiaff? Operation Restoration will provide that.” Galaxy Commander Fetladral chimed in “Aff, but what then? This may keep the Crusaders busy for fifteen years but what then?”

“Hopefully,” spoke Star Colonel Kerensky “it will be enough time for the InnerSphere to defend itself adequately, the Warden cause to grow, and Crusaders to understand the great error of their ways.” “Perhaps the opportunity will present itself to enact such a plan in the near future Star Colonel” said ilKhan Ulric Kerensky. “It is an interesting proposition and it would anger the Falcons and Khan Crichell. Yes, perhaps one day we shall see how we can execute Operation Restoration. Seyla.” The gathering unanimously stood and shouted “Seyla” in unison. Everyone apparently satisfied that the options had been discussed.

OVERVIEW

   The Claybeg captured the imagination of the Blood Spirits despite its initial defeat in the first Quicksilver Trail. Named for the “small sword” who some did not believe measured up to the Claymore this light Highlander ultimately finished second to the Burrock designed Nightcrawler. However one young ristar refused to admit defeat. Star Commander Kelvin of the Schmitt blood house urged his Clan not to forsake the project. Several problems with weapons and armor caused by “arbitrary time tables” could be fixed given time. After all, the Clans still possessed a large number of Thorn BattleMechs which supplied much of the Claybeg’s components. Since the entire point of the Quicksilver Program was to mobilize every possible asset scrapping this project would consign these machines to rot in Brian Caches. In much the same way Kelvin hoped that the Spirits would not abandon their true heritage as the esprit de corps. Impressed Khan Karianna Schmitt ordered her engineers to complete their work but also realized they would need help. This requirement was underlined in reports from Senior Scientist Norman (MacLeod) who stated that the limited resources put forward would have to entail additional fiscal and materiel support. Star Commander Kelvin was tasked with finding such assistance which effectively tested his inclusive philosophy. Pitching the new BattleMech as a rapid way to bolster flagging toumans in the wake of Tukayyid drew immediate interest from Clan Diamond Shark. Negotiations which began with this single project grew in scope proving difficult but in the end resulted in a new alliance. Financing for the Claybeg and other projects was secured in exchange for contracts to defend Shark holdings. Pleased with the outcome Khan Schmitt appointed Kelvin the new ilChi to the Diamond Sharks.

CAPABILITIES

   In a change from standard practice the only thing newly manufactured on the Claybeg is the internal structure. The Clan LT EndoSteel chassis was modeled after the legendary Highlander BattleMech but is much smaller in stature. This lightweight skeleton produced in zero gravity was initialed supplied by Diamond Shark and might be the only thing truly exclusive to this design. Everything else was salvaged from existing sources like the Thorn BattleMech or the Ku Wheeled Assault Tank. The armor, the electronics, the gyroscope and the power plant were all taken from the Thorn which served honorably for centuries. Of those only the GM 120 Fusion Engine was significantly refurbished with Clan Double Heat Sinks to efficiently cool the BattleMech in combat. While the Armorscale plating looks different that is because of the new underlying frame it remains essentially unchanged. This conventional armor provides it with ninety two percent of maximum possible protection. This war machine was built around the concept of staying in operation as long as possible without support. With this belief in mind the BattleMech was outfitted with energy weapons for prolonged engagements. One Series 7J Extended Range Large Laser and two Series 1 Extended Range Small Lasers drawn straight from the Ku Wheeled Assault Tank comprise this ammo free arsenal. These weapons are linked to an advanced Targeting Computer that allows the Claybeg to effectively engage enemies at long range while using its small size and speed to avoid damage. Engineers placed this armament centrally to overcome major peripheral damage and still carry on the fight. The design also mounts Hand Actuators which could carry out close quarters combat something most Clanners would not consider before their return to the InnerSphere. A simple and reliable design technicians love its dependable and time tested systems not to mention the roomy interior space. It is also the most affordable BattleMech currently in Clan service whose ease of maintenance and modular ready capability have fast made it a favorite despite its slight frame.

DEPLOYMENT
   A Clan BattleMech operating in a similar fashion to the Wasp or Stinger would be unthinkable before the invasion. Some in the Kerensky Cluster still consider the twenty ton chassis too fragile and a poor investment outdated by superior Clan technology. The Blood Spirits are disproving some of those assumptions by effectively using the Claybeg in their “Diamond Shield” campaigns. Clever bidding in conjunction with the natural terrain has produced some stunning defensive successes. Enemies have quickly found themselves unable to close to effective attack range against this swift reaching Light ‘Mech. While victorious these fall back tactics have produced a string of criticisms from traditional Blood Spirit foes like the Burrocks. Going so far as to call the design a “glorified Elemental” they have steadfastly condemned its wasteful production. Such disapproval has failed to slow its spread to other Clans by way of Diamond Shark merchants. Looking to bolster their devastated Touman rapidly the Smoke Jaguars purchased several runs which they have deployed ruthlessly to crush resistance in their Occupation Zone. Many have been modified by removing their existing armament along with the advanced targeting computer to maximize their aptitude for crowd control. Six Small Pulse Lasers which never need reloading provide continuously accurate firepower against any would be dissidents. Steel Viper has become the third largest users of the Claybeg purchasing them as training ‘Mechs. These machines have filled out their Newt Clusters in much the same way as the Caracara has done for the Jade Falcon Eyrie Clusters. Diamond Shark has opted to sell most of their Claybegs rather than employ them in rebuilding their battered Touman. Hell’s Horses is currently testing a few in second line formations to support infantry and armor like its predecessor, the Thorn. Intrigued by its highly precise long range weaponry Fire Mandrill and Goliath Scorpion are also evaluating the Claybeg in their garrison clusters.

OVERVIEW
   Clan Burrock was among the first to answer the call of the ilKhan with the prototype of their Nightcrawler OmniMech. First produced by Burrock Scientists in 3037 the design was named after a species of nocturnal carnivorous beetle indigenous to Eden. Desiring more powerful (heavier) OmniMechs the Khans quickly order these prototypes mothballed. But since the ilKhan commanded a design for every weight class, the Burrock leadership jumped ahead by pulling the twenty ton Nightcrawler from mothballs and in the process became the very first Clan to submit a design to the ilKhan . . . just eleven days after he issued his request! Ulric Kerensky was rather taken aback at the speed of the Burrock response and the fact that they shipped him not only design schematics and computer simulations, but a full Star of five complete and ready-to-field prototypes! In a move calculated to sow division amongst the Crusaders, Kerensky publicly praised the Burrocks as a shining example of a well-prepared Crusader Clan. Performing well against five other competitors during the first Quicksilver Trail on Strana Mechty the Burrock entry would earn a place as a finalist against the Claybeg designed by Blood Spirit. The feud between the two ancient enemies added to the intense closing challenge which would see the Nightcrawler emerge victorious thanks in large part to its superior speed. Assistance from Steel Viper and Diamond Shark engineers helped put the final touches on the new OmniMech that rolled off the Albion production lines in late 3053.

CAPABILITIES

   Massing just twenty tons the Nightcrawler utilized Clan Endo-Steel to construct its Segmented XX chassis which helped save available mass. In much the same way three and a half tons of Compound Alpha Ferro-Fibrous was used to protect the Light ‘Mech. This advanced lightweight armor which could be found on the Huntsman OmniMech, the Locust IIC BattleMech, and the Svanotvit Infantry Fighting Vehicle provides more than ninety seven percent of maximum coverage.
   A standard 140 Fusion Engine which had been used on the Howler BattlMech as well as the Odin Scout Tank was included to save costs; although larger than the 120-rate minimum power requirement issued by the ilKhan, this engine was sufficient to provide for a walking speed of 75.6 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 118.8 kph; at least one known configuration features seven jump jets for a maximum jump capacity of two hundred and ten meters as well.
   Despite being the fastest submission during the initial Quicksilver Trail which used EndoSteel and Ferro-Fibrous, the Nightcrawler remained low cost and easy to produce for Clans without extensive resources. One reason for this was the use of existing components like the Trueborn Ultra 945B Communication System from the Adder and the Series XXX Multi-track Targeting System from the Kit Fox. These proven electronics supplied by Burrock allies fit well into the design and required little capital investment.
   However, the design also featured a very low pod-space for a Clan OmniMech with just five and half tons available for weapons and equipment. Burrock Scientists and Warriors managed to create some workable configurations despite having a ton less pod space than the venerable Fire Moth. All configurations below are equipped with lower arm and hand actuators on both arms, unless other noted.

   The Nightcrawler Prime is armed with two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm) and five SRM-2 launchers fed by a single ton of ammunition. With fifty missile salvoes available this ammo can be spent after ten rounds of constant fire. Two SRMs are fitted to the right torso along with the ammo bin, two to the left torso, and one in the center. With ten Double Heat Sinks only movement heat is generated on an Alpha Strike.

   Configuration A has three sub-variants, all differing only in the electronics carried. Each is armed with two Medium Pulse Lasers (right arm and left arm) and a Flamer (right torso). The A-1 carries an Active Probe; the A-2 instead is outfitted with an ECM Suite; and the A-3 is armed with TAG. Each is mounted in the center torso. Very cool running and capable of accurate fire, the Nightcrawler A is a superb scout.
   Configuration B with multiple LRM launchers was included to counter indirect fire barrages by AFFC lances of Dervishes and Valkyries. This Steel Viper variant from their Bone Lion entry is very cool running and able to provide on-call fire-support at range. This long range missile fire is somewhat limited because it only carries a single ton of ammunition. A single ER Small Laser is the sole energy weapon that can ward off nearby opponents without logistical assistance.

   Configuration C was inspired by the Diamond Shark entry known as the Sea Hound which is similar to the Piranha. Using its Active Probe to seek out enemy infantry its eight Machine Guns and four Extended Range Small Lasers can quickly eliminate this pesky opposition. With one hundred rounds of ammunition the machine guns can fire a dozen rounds continuously before needing resupply.

   Configuration D is the long-range sniper of the Nightcrawler family and it too was altered thanks to its Quicksilver competition. With an Extended Range Large Laser in the right arm, supported by an Extended Range Small Laser in the left arm both linked to a Targeting Computer it closely resembles its archrival the Claybeg. Ideal for extended operations thanks to its all energy weapon arsenal this variant is also cool running.

   And finally, there is Configuration E. This model has seven jump jets (one center torso, three right torso, and three left torso) that puts a severe crimp in the available space for weapons. With only two tons remaining, the Burrocks went with the most efficient combination – a pair of ER Medium Lasers mounted in each arm.

DEPLOYMENT
   Burrock has vigorously promoted the Nightcrawler to other Clans through frequent raiding. Enemies soon learned not to underestimate this tough little war machine which earned a small measure of respect in Clan space. Still a strong rivalry remains between this new Light OmniMech and the Blood Spirit piloted Bloodwing. Driven by differing tactical doctrines and a blood feud these Quicksilver creations have frequently squared off in combat. Thus far the results are surprisingly even and the Burrocks remain the only Clan with manufacturing rights to this design.

   As the need to rebuild from Tukkayid became apparent the Steel Vipers challenged for rights to the new twenty ton OmniMechs. Despite the failure of their Bone Lion entry they recognized the Nightcrawler could bolster their Inner Sphere formations. Gaining access to its production through combat and trade this Invading Clan has become the second largest user to date. Not highly regarded within the Clan it is typically piloted by warriors fresh out of sibko or whose transfer to solahma units has been deferred by the need to rebuild frontline clusters.
   Star Adder has apparently obtained a large quantity of these ‘Mechs through their Burrock allies and Diamond Shark merchants. A number of these machines have been spotted in front line formations causing some to wonder if the Clan had incurred significant losses recently. The Adders claim that they are simply integrating lighter forces into their Touman for improved combat performance. While adding such rapid responders to their forces is an admirable claim many still want to know what happened to the heavier assets they replaced.
   The Diamond Sharks have been accused of double dealing by Blood Spirit isolationists who see their involvement with the Nightcrawler as a betrayal. While the Sharks have pointed out their own proposal named the Sea Hound which was defeated, their right to access Nightcrawler production via these same trails, and receipts of sale to others these hardliners remain undeterred. This opposition is not strong enough to upset the new alliance between these Clans but is likely to grow in the future. Both Blood Spirit and Fire Mandrill have publicly stated their refusal to use the Nightcrawler what so ever.
   Burrock graciously sent samples of their new product to the Wolves who quickly integrated them into their Epsilon and Sigma Galaxies. Their mid line status between front line and second line troops have made them repositories for such zombie units. Preferring the heavier twenty five ton class the Jade Falcons have also obtained a few for combat trails. The Cloud Cobra and Smoke Jaguar Clans also have access to production but have not elected to procure big numbers instead preferring the Fire Moth and the Bloodwing respectively.

Overview
Intrigued by the ilKhan and his Project Quicksilver, Khan Lynn McKenna of Clan Snow Raven decided to submit a prototype of her own.  Drawing upon the venerable Fire Moth, she directed Raven Scientists to redesign that commonly deployed OmniMech with a smaller, lighter engine and without the MASC systems.  Although at least one Scientist asked whether they should consider improving the armor as a priority, Khan McKenna only authorized a slight increase of just one-half ton, demanding the largest possible war-load on an OmniMech masing just 20-tons.

Designated as Test Vehicle Bloodwing, the first example was handed over to the ilKhan in late 3052 for field testing.

Capabilities
Although many questioned their Khan's sanity (the Scientists doing so asking those questions VERY quietly), the Clan's finest minds sat down and outlined a 'Mech that might indeed meet the Khan's specifications.  Since speed is life for a 20-ton design, the Scientists decided that a walking speed of 75.6 kilometers per hour was the absolute minimum.  A 140-rate Extra-Light Fusion engine was fitted to comply with that decision.

With two and one-half tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor plating (half a ton more than the Fire Moth and providing almost 70% of the maximum possible protection on a 20-ton frame) and Endo-Steel II internal structure, the final computer design showed a capacity for 9.0 tons of pod-mounted weapons and equipment . . . just half-a-ton less than the 45-ton Ice Ferret!

Khan McKenna was impressed and she ordered two prototypes to be constructed immediately and shipped to the ilKhan for acceptance trials . . . although it is noteworthy that she did NOT instruct her own engineers to begin production for Clan Snow Raven.  This has led some to wonder whether or not the entire Bloodwing Project is some attempt by Khan McKenna to troll the other Clans by presenting them with a weakly protected (but heavily armed) chassis that existing Clan Snow Raven OmniMechs can easily defeat in future trials.

Configurations
The Prime features a blistering array of energy weapons:  a Large Pulse Laser in the right arm is the main gun; hellaciously accurate and possessing excellent range, it is a solid weapon.  But in close, the design can also bring SIX ER Small Lasers to bear (mounted two each in the left arm, right torso, and left torso).  The design carries just the base ten Double Strength Heat Sinks, resulting in marginal overheat production on a running Alpha Strike.  Khan McKenna approved the design, however, citing that any Clan Warrior worth her OmniMech should be to deal with the excess overheat production.

A sub-variant replaces the Large Pulse Laser with an ER PPC; although this version generates even greater levels of heat, the added range and damage of the ER PPC is considered worth the cost and the loss in accuracy.

Configuration A is outfitted with two ER Large Lasers (right arm and left arm) with an eleventh DHS filling out the pod-space.  Designed as a long-range sniper, this variant is well-able to pick targets to death at range, although it too suffers from the generation of excess overheat.

An in-fighter supreme, Configuration B is armed with five ER Medium Lasers (right arm, right torso, center torso, left torso, and left arm) tied into a one-ton Targeting Computer (right torso).  Thirteen DHS are mounted, allowing for overheat generation only on a running Alpha Strike.  Even clan Heavy- and Assault-weight war-machines have to be careful of the Bloodwing A because if it can get in their rear it is quite possible to lose a Trial due to the blistering discharge of the quintuple laser array.

Configuration C is very cool running, although it does suffer from limited onboard ordnance.  The main weapon is an LRM-20 with Artemis IV (right arm) fed by a two-ton magazine in the right torso (twelve missile salvoes).  The only secondary weapon is an ER Medium Laser in the left arm.

Configuration D is a short-range missile boat.  Two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm) are the long-range weapons, backed up by three Streak SRM-4 launchers (right torso, center torso, and left torso) fed by a single ton of ammunition in the right torso (25 missile salvoes).

Configuration E has seven jump jets fitted for a maximum jumping distance of 210 meters.  Long-range armament consists of an LRM-10 (right arm) fed by a ton of ammunition in the right arm (twelve missile salvoes).  Two ER Medium Lasers (left arm and right torso) provide back-up weapons (and indeed, the majority of the damage potential).  It has been suggested that this configuration be paired with OmniMechs featuring a NARC missile beacon launcher to enhance the dozen missile salvoes available.

Then there is Configuration F.  This version carries an Active Probe (right torso), an ECM Suite (left torso), a TAG (left arm), an Anti-Missile System (left torso) with a ton of ammunition stored in the left torso (24 bursts), a Flamer (right arm), two Machine Guns (left arm) fed by a half-ton of ammunition (left arm), and two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and center torso).  A Targeting Computer (left torso) provides additional accuracy.  Although capable of serving as a scout or recon element, the Bloodwing F was designed to serve as an infantry hunter for urban combat operations.

Finally, Configuration G carries an LB-2X autocannon in the right arm with a ton of ammunition (also in the right, for 45 bursts of cluster!), support by a triple ER Medium Laser mount in the left arm.  Neither arm carries lower-arm or hand actuators, allowing the OmniMech to fire both ahead and behind at available targets.  While the damage from the LB-2X is minor, it is an effective anti-fighter weapon and possesses a superb range, as well as providing for the possible of securing critical hits against even heavily armored OmniMechs at ranges often exceeding those of their own weapons.  It is cool running as well and with the triple mount of ER Medium Lasers able to defend itself in close.

Deployment
Awaiting the Trial results of Project Quicksilver.  Only two prototypes are currently available for testing and combat simulations.

25 Ton Mech

Sparrow

A somewhat surprising design coming from Clan Jade Falcon, the Sparrow it seems was prompted by the Falcons desire for a suitable Light 'Mech for Garrison work in the Inner Sphere. 

Needless to say Jade Falcon Scientists under the watchful eye of Falcon Warriors decided to favor both speed and armor for this entry.   While at a significant cost of pod space for weapons, Falcon Warriors weren't overly concerned given the roles they intended the Sparrow to perform. Capable of a top speed of over 129 kilometers an hour, the Sparrow was meant to be a scout first, a skirmisher second, and finally pressed into service to suppress unruly populaces.   


What the Jade Falcon Scientists produced in only 30 days was an Omni version of the LocustIIC as a very deliberate insult to the Smoke Jaguars.   Star Captain Jonathan Uston, a Falcon Mechwarrior well known for his personal feuds with Smoke Jaguars has gleefully endorsed the new adaptation and was said to be the driving force behind this blatant omnization.   That being said Falcon scientists are already looking towards developing a field kit to upgrade all Locust IIC's in the Clan's Touman to the Sparrow standard.

The Prime nods to the battlemech its an omni of inspiration for this brand new design armed with 8 ER small lasers and medium pulse laser. A strong anti infantry unit, this variant is well known and familiar to Clan Warriors. 

The Alpha variant is a purpose built skirmisher featuring a ER Large Laser, a small pulse laser and more importantly a Targeting Computer to make long range, high speed shots a possibility.  Jonathon Uston favors this variant and pressed hard to see it developed. 

Falcon Scientists included Beta to deal with the always troublesome prospect of garrison work inside the InnerSphere.  Meant for suppressing riots within urban areas the Beta variant includes jumpjets, flamers and an active probe to crush any foolish attempt to rebel against the Falcons.   

Delta was designed to be an alternative skirmisher equipped with a Streak SRM4 on either arm along with a ER medium Laser.   The single ton of ammo is considered more than sufficient to feed both SRM's for a single battle.   A favored dueling variant, Falcon Warriors often focus on high speed passes instead of simply grinding away at an opponent.

OVERVIEW
For much of their history the Burrock Clan had been consummate raiders and accomplished bandit hunters. Despite skill and determination their small Touman reflected the strain of near constant operations. While ground down by persistent offensives Burrock warriors were hardened combat veterans. However, newly elected Khan Michael Holliday was confronted with a growing lists of threats. Clan Blood Spirit, his most hated rival, was emerging from its isolationism and establishing new alliances. Dark Caste reprisals had killed his immediate predecessor and increasing hostility from Clan Snow Raven signaled some very real dangers to his Clan. Also the possibility of action in the InnerSphere rose after the Truce of Tukayyid effectively ended Operation Revival. Faced with these ominous prospects Khan Holliday commissioned several new designs to rapidly strengthen his Clan. This expansion was already underway when the ilKhan announced the Quicksilver Program. As the Fourth Trail approached Burrock Scientists looking to develop a cost effective light OmniMech came across the schematics for the HER-1Sb Hermes in an ancient data file. Believing that they had struck armament gold the engineering team quickly outlined a new modular design based on the Star League war machine. A number of concerns and minor mishaps prevented modification of existing equipment for front line service. Named the Gremlin in part for these unforeseen technical problems which could not be overcome it is unlike the Sparrow and many other ‘Mechs refurbished as part of Quicksilver. In spite of these issues the Gremlin defeated the Gila Monster submitted by Steel Viper during its combat trails to win a place among the Clans. 

CAPABILITIES
   The visage of the Gremlin has been changed from the Hermes and now has a more sinister demon-like appearance. The Albion Chassis Class 20 EndoSteel intentionally features hunched legs to give it a more aggressive look as well as multi-pronged horns on the head. These cosmetic changes are actually a combination of radio antennas and passive sensor receivers. Like the internal structure the Albion Telestar Communication System was derived from Hermes. In fact, the only system that could be salvaged and copied from the original model was the Alexis Photon Target Acquisition System. These reliable Star League era electronics were found to be compatible with modern Clan technology.
   Designers settled on a standard 210 Fusion Engine in order to save on costs and incorporate a more durable Power Plant. Initially salvaged GM 210 Fusion Engines from the SLDF Lightning Hovercraft and Omni 210 Fusion Engines salvaged from cached Firestarters were used to give the Gremlin a maximum speed of 118.8 kph. Thankfully Burrock and Smoke Jaguar merchants reached an accommodation which made possible the use of the LightForce 210. This Power Plant featured on the Horned Owl and new Coral Snake would ease manufacturing concerns and eliminate any supply shortages. To protect the pilot and machine five tons of Compound Alpha Ferro-Fibrous armor is spread liberally across the frame. This armor also found on the Nightcrawler provides ninety-one percent of maximum protection.


The Primary Weapons Configuration of the Gremlin is a heavy hitter equipped with a menacing Extended Range Particle Projection Cannon. While this main gun, usually mounted in the right arm, makes the placement of lower arm and hand actuators impossible the opposing limb features these augmentations along with a Medium Pulse Laser. Finally, a centrally mounted Extended Range Small Laser provides necessary backup when necessary.

Alternate Configuration A is the short-ranged special equipped with matching Medium Pulse Lasers, Small Pulse Lasers, and Extended Range Small Lasers in each arm. While this variant includes lower arm actuators in both limbs neither features hands. A Short Range Missile-2 system is centrally mounted to provide further close in fire support. The one ton of ammunition carried in the right torso usually varies depending on mission types.

For long range fire support Alternate Configuration B features four torso mounted Long Range Missile-5 systems armed with two tons of ammunition. Two Extended Range Medium Lasers placed in each arm along with lower arm and hand actuators provide the next layer of offense. An Extended Range Small Laser located in the center torso deals with any short range threats the Gremlin should encounter.

A highly mobile recon element Alternate Configuration C is equipped with an Active Probe and an ECM Suite to accomplish its mission. Seven torso mounted jump jets allow the war machine to clear almost any obstacle in its path. Its armament consists of six Extended Range Small Lasers that while tiny compared to other weapons pack quite a punch when used collectively. This excellent raider also includes lower arm and hand actuators to grab any objectives quickly during combat.

Alternate Configuration D is a trooper model requested by Khan Holliday which features an Extended Range Large Laser, an Extended Range Medium Laser and two Extended Range Small Lasers. For added short-ranged punch, a six-tube Short Range Missile launcher is also mounted. Here again each arm has both lower actuators and hands for any necessary operations.

DEPLOYMENT

   Rushed into production following its victory the Gremlin is entering service with Burrock units as fast as possible. As the creation of “OmniKits” for cached Hermes proved impossible the Clan has been forced to wait on newly manufactured machines. This has slowed deployment compared to other Quicksilver OmniMechs upgraded from existing models. Sufficient numbers have been built to outfit the 121st Rapier Cluster (Shockwaves) of Gamma Galaxy. With an OmniMech contingent composed exclusively of Nightcrawlers, Sparrow and Gremlins this Cluster has raided several enemy positions. These operations have gleaned important material for the Clan as well as a growing name for the Gremlin throughout the Homeworlds.
   Securing two Light OmniMechs during the Ouicksilver Trails also allowed Khan Holliday to expand his reapproachment initiatives. Approaching old enemies like Smoke Jaguar and Coyote early in his tenure had produced a growing détente. Using the Gremlin as an answer to the Jaguar’s need to bolster an Occupation Zone under constant attack he was able to quickly add them as a large patron. Early sales of these fierce looking war machines have rapidly proven their worth against InnerSphere opponents. While the Jaguars look forward to the Gremlin bulking up their Touman soon, the Coyotes have shown only a scientific curiosity thus far. Their few gifted samples have been slated for further study at labs on Tamaron at this point in time.

   Old Burrock friends like Star Adder and Steel Viper have been much more welcoming to the Gremlin than the Coyotes. The Adders recently reequipped an entire Cluster from Beta Galaxy with Gremlins, Sparrows, and Nightstalkers in much the same fashion as the Burrocks. Placing existing equipment into reserve for future operations has drawn some criticism from a few vocal Crusaders. They contend that Clan Star Adder is once again being too cautious when it comes to planning an invasion of the InnerSphere. Steel Viper immediately sent its first Gremlins to the FedCom front where they will serve alongside the Coral Snake which features the same fusion power plant. This overlapping equipment will ease logistical concerns while defeating InnerSphere opponents.
Attracted by the affordability of the design the Goliath Scorpions obtained the last few examples produced so far. Ties to the Star League Hermes and its battlefield toughness have quickly made it their thirty-ton favorite. Other Clans have not been so welcoming of the Gremlin citing “lingering technical issues” as well as “poor use of existing materials. Chief among these has been the Blood Spirits and Fire Mandrills whose hatred of the Burrocks may cloud their judgement. However, some Burrock “friends” like Jade Falcon and Ice Hellion have backed these assertions rejecting the Gremlin in favor of the Kit Fox and Arctic Cheetah respectively.

Overview:
The Quicksilver was developed alongside the Lithe Kill sharing the same chassis and armor layout, The main difference between the two concepts is the powerplant. The Quicksilver's comes from the Summoner Omnimech and allows the Quicksilver to reach speeds in access of 160kph falling in the same movement bracket as the Fire Moth, a long time favorite among the warrios of the Ice Hellion Touman.

While the two OmniMechs share the smae bones and skin, they are visually different. The Quicksilver is very sleek in appearnace, while the Lithe Kill is very animalistic in appearance.

The Quicksilver, while fast, lacks in offensive output due to the limitations of the seven tons of pod space that is available. The Quicksilver design team has made the best of the situation, but a few members of the team still feel that firepwoer is insufficient.

Variants:

The Prime is rather generic and fits the trooper role with an ER large laser, medium pulse laser and a brace of ER small lasers

The Alpha is the duellist and Elemental killer featuring a quintet of ER medium lasers tied into a targeting computer. A light active probe is mounted to sniff out any hidden enemies.

The Beta is the heavy hitter equipped an ER PPC and ER medium laser as a secondary weapon

The Gamma features an LRM-10 with a trio of laser, both ER and pulse, as backup for anyone who decides to get to close, as if that were possible.

The Delta is expected to fit the scout role with an active probe and two medium pulse lasers and a quartet of ER small lasers for striking power.

Overview:
Looking to exploit their new Occupation Zone, the Steel Vipers looked for ways to upgrade the Trellshire Heavy Industries factory on Twycross. While fully capable of building heavy and assault 'Mechs (and equipped with the latest technology of the Inner Sphere), the Scientist Caste suggested not entrusting the recent acquisition with outright production of Clan technology.


Instead the factory's role is to combine parts scavenged from the battlefields of the Clan Invasion with those shipped from the Clan Homeworlds and locally built electronics. The latter now includes Clan ECM, indicating increasing awareness of the importance of this factor on the battlefield.


Their current project merges the chassis of the Adder OmniMech with reactors taken from salvaged AFFC Wolfhounds. The Coral Snake is appearing in garrison clusters already although the Inner Sphere didn't notice at first, believing they were simply dealing with the 'Mechs they call Adders. They've codenamed the design 'Water Viper'.


Capabilities:
The Coral Snake mirrors the parent design very closely, although the larger engine loses the 'Mech about a third of its pod-space. In addition, the Water Viper replaces the chest-mounted Flamer with Electronic CounterMeasures, found to be helpful as AFFC units begin to make more use of C3 systems obtained from the DCMS. The ECM was included as a tribute to the camouflage capability of the Arcadian coral snakes the design is named for.


The Primary configuration swaps the Adder's PPCs for large lasers. This reduces the weight but also the heat burden sharply. Some Mechwarriors indicate the lower heat and greater range make it preferable to the Adder Prime.


The A configuration is the first missile-heavy configuration, scaling the missile pods down to 10-tubes and adding additional targeting electronics. This doesn't quite make up for the loss of firepower but maintains the reach and endurance, making it marginally acceptable to Mechwarriors.


Losing spare tonnage forced the B configuration to shed the Adder's autocannon but a LRM-5 with artemis targeting is a reasonable substitute and the success against unpredictable Spheroid warriors has led the Adders to re-visit the Adder B as a well-rounded design.


Another fire support configuration, the C configuration uses NARC to mark a target before backing off to use the uncannily accurate LRMs in its four launchers.


D configuration loses the autocannon once again, in favour of two LRM launchers this time. The ER large laser and Streak Missiles provide the backbone of the Water Viper D's firepower.


The only entirely original configuration, the E, provides a much-needed jump-jet option as well as an all laser armament that suggests the Steel Viper's steam-bath experience on Tukkayid has re-acquainted with the need for an ammunition free and low-heat unit.


Battle History:
Coral Snakes have seen minor action up and down the Steel Viper Occupation Zone since their deployment, usually in counter-insurgent roles or facing Inner Sphere raiders. An entire Star in E configuration were used for an amphibious assault on insurgents on Twycross itself after Operation Scorpion left the Steel Viper hold on the world endangered. Believing the 'Adders' wouldn't have jump jets, the insurgents relied on rough coastal terrain to try to escape, only to see the Coral Snakes hop easily over the barriers.

SAND DEVIL

Overview
The announcement of Project Quicksilver in 3052 left Clan Goliath Scorpion wondering whether or not they should participate.  Always short of resources, their existing Touman was outfitted with large numbers of standard BattleMechs (instead of cutting edge OmniMechs) and few BattleMechs or OmniMechs were produced by Clan Scientists.

Indeed, Khan Ariel Suvorov considered the competition to be a waste of time; however, that opinion was changed with a concerted by her saKhan (Nelson Elam) and the Clan's Master of Instruction (former Khan Nikolai Djerassi) to bring her onboard.  Already, the two argued, the Scorpions are considered to be a third-rate Clan.  If the Scorpions failed to submit a single OmniMech design that was then accepted for Project Quicksilver, the Clan would fall further behind and suffer ridicule and attacks from the other Clans.

Faced with the real possibility that her emphasis on overhauling the Scorpion aerospace assets could cost the Clan its very existence, Khan Suvorov relented.  Elam and Djerassi were assigned to oversee the development of a new Scorpion design that would serve the Clan (ALL of the Clans) well.

After examining the available choices for competition, the two decided upon the 45-ton Zombie slot.  The Scorpions already had a reputation for fielding lighter (slightly, at least) 'Mechs than other Clans and the two leaders quickly determined that the 45-ton slot would be the most effective for combining speed, armor protection, and weapon payload.

In May of 3052, Djerassi assigned the name Sand Devil to the future design and assembled a staff of Scientists and Warriors to see it through to completion.  This team proceeded deliberately, debating the merits of slower designs versus the reduced payload of faster, more mobile units.  But the consensus slowly settled on a unit able to walk at speeds of 64.8 kilometers per hour.  Any slower would be TOO slow, the Warriors argued, while faster speeds required too much weapons payload to be sacrificed.

But problems arose.  Clan Goliath Scorpion did not produce the 270 Standard Fusion Engines required for the design.  On the other hand, Clan Diamond Shark already had a plant designed to produce this engine for their Highlander IIC BattleMech . . . BattleMech Plant CM-T15 on Arcadia.  Another concern was that the newly completed SR-1 Facility on Roche might not be able to keep pace with demand if the Sand Devil won the competition . . . and the Scorpions lacked the capital resources necessary for expansion.  Not without further diluting Khan Suvorov's aerospace renaissance.

In order to circumvent both of these problems, Nikolai Djerassi travelled to Strana Mechty in person to meet privately with Khan Ian Hawker.  Over the course of two weeks, the men met and discussed the state of the Clans in general and Project Quicksilver in particular.  Furious at the ilKhan for killing the Mongrel project, Hawker was eager to put a new (and potentially profitable) OmniMech in production.  Although disdainful of the Warden and his decadent Scorpions, Hawker listened . . . and from these meetings he begrudgingly decided that the Scorpion design was reasonable and had a good chance of winning the coveted 45-ton slot.

Hawker agreed to supply the engines, but only if Clan Diamond Shark gained production rights to the design.  Little did he realize that Djerassi wanted this as well . . . and with that agreement, the deal was sealed.

One final problem remained.  To complete the Sand Devil in time, Scorpion scientists needed to use an existing chassis . . . and preferably existing communications, targeting, and fire control systems.  Two possibilities presented themselves:  the Ice Ferret produced by Clan Wolf and the Shadow Cat produced by Clan Nova Cat.

As the Shadow Cat was a new design, concerns over unforeseen glitches soon sidelined debate on using that chassis, leaving only the Clan Wolf Ice Ferret.  But the Scorpions did not have rights to produce (or duplicate) the chassis and systems.

On June 26, Star Captain Jillian Scott, a Scorpion ristar on detached duty in the Inner Sphere to observe and report on the Invasion and Occupation, appeared before Khans Natasha Kerensky and Phelan Kell on Tamar.  Citing orders from her Khan, Scott issued a Trial of Possession for the right to use the Ice Ferret chassis (including all motive and electronic systems) as the basis for a new Clan Goliath Scorpion OmniMech.

Impressed by the audacity of the Scorpions, Khan Kerensky accepted . . . and met Star Captain Scott on the field of battle herself.  The Scorpions lost that Trial and Scott was taken as abtakha by the Wolves.

Incensed at this 'betrayal' by their nominal allies, Khan Suvorov did the unthinkable . . . she sent Nikolai Djerassi to Hector and ordered him to convince the Hellions, by wit or battle, to provide the Scorpions with the needed schematics and rights to their original Wolf Hunter design (which Clan Wolf had turned into the Ice Ferret).

Although Clan Wolf had won the production rights to the Ice Ferret, the Hellions kept records and blue-prints and schematics even after they discontinued production.  Technically, they still had the right to produce the design . . . or to trade it.

Khan Stephen Tyler's first impulse was to reject the Scorpion proposal . . . but after he had a chance to consider, he began to realize just how irritated and incensed the Wolves would be when they realized that the Scorpions had secured the chassis and right to produce it . . . despite the Trial that Natasha Kerensky had just won.

On July 3, 3052, Khan Tyler traded the schematics and blue-prints for the original Wolf Hunter to Nikolai Djerassi . . . in exchange for a case containing one dozen bottles of 48-year aged Glengarry Reserve Scotch Whiskey.

With the plans secured, full-scale development of a prototype began.


Capabilities
The Sand Devil masses 45-tons and uses a 270 Standard Fusion Engine that provides sufficient power for a walking speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 97.2 kph.  Design engineers used Endo-Steel II internal structure to save as much mass as possible for weapons payload, although they did outfit the OmniMech with 8.0 tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating (for 100% of the maximum possible protection available on a 45-ton chassis).

No fixed equipment was installed on the base chassis and only the ten base double-strength heat sinks mounted, maximizing available pod space at 14.0 tons.  Although two tons less than that available on the 35-ton Adder(an OmniMech ten tons lighter moving at the same speed), design engineers stressed that the Sand Devil (with its standard engine) was more rugged, carried far more armor protection, and consumed fewer resources to field and maintain.

All known configurations of the Sand Devil feature a Targeting Computer due to the Clan Goliath Scorpion designers desire to comply with Scorpion doctrine.

The Prime configuration is armed with an ER PPC in the right arm, an ER Medium Laser in the left arm, and (at the insistence of Clan Diamond Shark 'consultants') a Streak SRM-6 launcher with a ton of ammunition in the left torso.  Eleven DHS provide ample cooling ability, although there is a heat spike if the Streak locks onto a target and fires.  A two-ton Targeting Computer is located in the right torso.

Configuration A is armed with two ER Large Lasers (right arm and left arm) tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso.  Thirteen DHS allows for the Sand Devil A to remain heat neutral on a running Alpha strike.  There are two sub-configurations:  the A-1 uses the final ton to mount an Active Probe, while the A-2 instead carries an ECM Suite.  Both sub-configurations carry this piece of equipment in the center torso.

Configuration B provides the Scorpion Touman with air-defense capabilities.  The main weapon is an LB-5X autocannon in the right arm with two tons of ammunition.  This is supported by three ER Medium Lasers (center torso, left torso, and left arm).  All four guns are tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso.  Although carrying only the base ten DHS, the Sand Devil B is cool-running.

Configuration C is designed for anti-infantry/battle armor duties.  Four ER Medium Lasers provide the bulk of the available firepower (mounted right arm, right torso, left torso, and left arm).  Two ER Small Lasers support these weapons at closer range (right torso and left torso).  The right arm carries a TAG system, while a center torso mounted Active Probe allows the Sand Devil C to located hostile infantry.  Four Machine-guns (two each right torso and left torso) with a half-ton of ammunition (left torso) provides AP capacity.  For additional defense, an Anti-Missile System is provided (left torso, with a ton of ammunition) and the lasers are tied into a one-ton Targeting Computer located in the right torso.  To support all of these weapons, thirteen DHS are provided.

The Sand Devil D carries fourteen DHS, but still generates movement heat on a full Alpha Strike.  The main gun is an ER Large Laser in the right arm.  Backing up this weapon are EIGHT ER Small Lasers, mounted in the left arm, center torso, and three each in the right and left torsos.  All weapons are tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso.

Configuration E is a jump capable scout.  Six jump jets (three each right and left torso) are carried, allowing for jumps of up to 180 meters.  To support its recon role, the Sand Devil E is outfitted with an Active Probe (center torso), ECM Suite (left torso), and TAG (left arm).  Armament consists of an ER Large Laser (right arm) and a Streak SRM-4 (left torso) with a ton of ammunition.  Only the base 10 DHS are mounted, but these are only strained on a full jumping Alpha Strike.  A one-ton Targeting Computer is located in the right torso.

And the final configuration is the Sand Devil F.  Also fitted with six jump jets (three each right and left torso), this configuration is brutally simple:  four Medium Pulse Lasers (right arm, right torso, left arm, left torso) tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer (right torso).  Eleven DHS allows for the Sand Devil F to remain heat neutral even on a jumping Alpha Strike . . . and while relatively short-ranged, the lethal accuracy of this configuration cannot be overstated.


Battle History
Khan Tyler was correct in his assumption that the Wolves would have little taste or amusement for the manner in which Clan Goliath Scorpion bypassed the results of their Trial of Possession.  Immediately after receiving the first five prototypes in November of 3052, the ilKhan himself had to physically restrain Khan Kerensky from hopping aboard a JumpShip and travelling to Roche (in person!) to fight a Trial of Grievance against the Scorpions!

The design was almost rejected by the ilKhan when he announced that he was ". . . personally investigating the irregularities involved in the Scorpion acquisition and duplication of an OmniMech design to which Clan Wolf had sole legal rights."

But an unlikely coalition of Clan Wolf enemies came to the Scorpion's defense in this manner.  The Hellions, of course, refused to condone any such investigation and they insisted that they, indeed, had every legal right under the Martial Code to trade the design schematics.  The Sharks, who stood to profit, warned the ilKhan that he stood on dangerous ground . . . and both the Falcons and Jaguars, eager at ANY action which caused Clan Wolf to suffer in ANY manner, also stood in opposition.

In the end, the ilKhan gritted his teeth and allowed the Sand Devil to enter the competition . . . but the matter was far from settled.

Small Wolf units began to descend onto Scorpion holdings, determined to 'punish' the Clan for the actions of their leadership.  Only the skill and determination of Scorpion Warriors have so far managed to keep losses at an acceptable level.  Unfortunately, the feud between the two Clans has shown no sign of abating; on the contrary it is threatening to escalate even further if the Sand Devil wins the coveted Quicksilver slot.


Additional
The new Clan Goliath Scorpion OmniMech was named after the fearsome Sand Devil of Roche . . . a massive (350 kilogram, on average) insect that closely resembles the Ant Lion of Terra (although far, far larger in scale).  Rare even in the desert wastes of Roche, the Sand Devil uses its mandibles to dig out steep sided pits from the loose sand and rubble of the wastes, then buries itself at the bottom.

When creatures come upon the pit, they begin to slide down, the sides collapsing and causing them to fall . . . and when they reach the bottom, the Sand Devil is lying in wait.  Seizing the prey with its bone mandibles (which ratchet down and lock into place), the insect then injects it proboscis into the victim and starts draining blood and other vital fluids.  The strength of the mandibles is truly amazing and have been known to penetrate Elemental battle armor on at least three occasions.  Once the mandibles lock into place, the Sand Devil does not release its prey until its victim is dead.  Even after the death of the insect, the mandibles remain locked and must be broken to free the victim.

An ambush hunter par excellence, the Sand Devil is honored for its ability to alter its environment to suit its own strengths and deprive its prey of theirs.  As such, Khan Suvorov selected the name for the Scorpions entry in Project Quicksilver 45-Z.

Quasar


After seeing all the promise of glory and future riches going to the other clans through the Quicksilver Program, it seems that Clan Fire Mandrill have collectively gotten their *ahem* shit together, we can only hope they fling it at the right opponents quiaff?

According to the information I have been given access to by Mandrill scientists, the Quasar is a 50-ton 'Mech based largely upon the out of production Nova chassis, which according to rumour was obtained from the Ghost Bears for the exorbitant price of a 'carpet made of the hair of a thousand hell's horses, to keep the floor of the Khan Jorgensson's cave warm through the winter'. I do not beleive the veracity of that rumour.
 
In any case this 'Mech is has the same standard structure as the Nova, though it is now sheathed in 8.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous armour, allowing it to withstand a substantial amount of punishment for a machine its size.

Its speed is also equal to its predecessor, mounting the 250 Standard engine found and duplicated from the many Crab mechs found in the Brian Caches. MASC was also installed, allowing the machine to exceed 100kph for short bursts. Its 16 tons of pod space is a match for the
machine it was based upon, but while many variants mount jump jets they are not fixed to the machine.

The Prime variant shows that perhaps the Mandrills have not learned from the mistakes of Operation Revival, with a Ultra AC/10 with 2 tons of ammo backed up by a ER Large laser. Twenty bursts for the Ultra may be sufficient in a Trial, but it runs the risk of running short during
extended battles, like we saw on Tukayyid.

The Alpha variant shows more promise ilKhan. Clearly built to deal with an urban environment, it mounts jump jets as well as a full electronic suite. Unfortunately this does not allow much room for weapons, but the Mandrills have equipped it with twin Medium Pulse lasers and 2 SRM 6 racks, which the warriors in the testing grounds have thoroughly enjoyed loading with infernos for dealing with vehicles. 4 machine guns with a half ton of ammunition shall deal with any dismounted infantry unlucky enough to come across this machine.

The Bravo variant is intended as a fire support machine. It also mounts jump jets allowing it to get itself to high ground and and darken the skies over the foe with their twin LRM 15's, though like the Prime variant I doubt they have gifted the machine with sufficient ammunition for an extended engagement, with only 12 volleys for each launcher. At least it's pair of Extended range Medium lasers will keep it in the fight when its ammo invariably runs out. Finally an Anti-missile system helps keep it protected from the inevitable return fire.

The Charlie variant is the simple, all-energy loadout the mech needs should it ever find itself in a battle like Tukayyid or Luthien. An ER PPC in one arm backed up by 4 ER Mediums may not be the most inventive loadout in the homeworlds, but the Mandrill scientists beleive that if it
works why mess around with it? Heat buildup is a minor problem with this variant, as even the 6 extra heat sinks installed cannot handle all of the load.

This report I give you ilKhan, no doubt the Mandrills shall have a similar report for you in the coming days, once all of their tests have concluded.

Overview:
The Hellfury was the product of Khan Cassius N'Buta's desire for a fast medium design to submit to the Quicksilver programme. With the Clan Council generally unfavorably inclined the result was a resource-strapped project that ultimately edged into the heavy categories.

The decision to build the Hellfury at 60 tons was based on two factors: the 360 extra-light engines now available as a byproduct of the development of a new 90-ton omni-mech (later the Blood Asp) and the discovery of over a hundred retired Lupus Omni-Mechs in caches. Stripping the Lupus 'Mechs back to the chassis and fitting the engines gave the Scientists the core of their new 'Mech.

Fierce competition with the Blood Asp team for resources was overall a problem for the Hellfury project: although they were able to gain access to armour and electronics for their own design, several key scientists were lost in Trials of Possession and all three test-pilots were killed fighting the Trials. With only weeks to go, Khan N'Buta personally devoted time to test the new Omni-Mech and gave special dispensation to his sibkin, Technician Brutus, to pilot the Hellfury's second prototype on gunnery ranges. The close resemblance between
the two men left this unnoticed until testing was complete.

The compatibility with the original Lupus, which may be revived as the zombie 60-tonner for the Quicksilver program may allow benefits in parts commonality, although it could also leave the two designs competing for parts.

Capabilities:
With the powerful engine and advanced myomer signal circutiry, the Hellfury can sprint a full fifty percent faster than its precursor design. Although carrying slightly less protection than the Lupus, this protection has been repositioned around the vital systems of the torso. This can leave arm-mounted weapons more vulnerable than might be desired.

The first three configurations were copied directly from the Lupus (which fortunately had the exact same tonnage available, and similar pod-space). The primary configuration is a classic LRM platform reminiscent of the Archer and many other designs, augmented with jumpjets and far more advanced electronics.

Alpha configuration uses a more balanced weapon payload, with an ultra-class autocannon in one arm and a large pulse laser in the other. Finally the Beta configuration moved directly to close combat preference with a large-bore autocannon and an array of lasers.

Gamma configuration is the only original weapon-load, developed to allow for extended operations that don't allow re-supply. The Clan PPC in the left arm and the pulse lasers in the torso allow considerable sustained firepower with the jump jets reducing most terrain to a minor consideration.


Battle History:
The Hellfury has seen action only once: Khan Robin Steele of Clan Coyote committed a Trinary to capture the revision of a 'Mech they still considered their own. The prospect of capturing Khan N'Buta would also have been a notable coup.

In the event, the batchall was issued while Khan N'Buta wasn't at the weapon range (returning to Strana Mechty with the first prototype for display) and in the absence of warriors present, the responsibility for the facility fell to Technican Brutus who engaged in masterly bidding, limiting the scope to only the second prototype and not the first production models in the nearby assembly buildings. (In fact the Coyotes were quite unaware of these valuable and lightly guarded Adder assets).

Using Gamma configuration, Brutus then led the Coyotes on a chase away from the Star Adder enclave, almost losing them in the terrain. When finally cornered he pulled the reactor safeties and ejected, letting the Coyotes win only the scorched fragments of the chassis. At first gleeful at the 'cowardice' of the Star Adder Khan, the Coyote warriors were humiliated to learn they'd bid against and engaged in battle a mere technician, who quickly pointed out he'd maintained the Way of the Clans by never presuming to fire the weapons at them.

The arrival of Star Adder reinforcements forced the Coyotes to request hegira rather than face a Trial of Greivance. This debacle did much to weaken Khan Steele's position in the Coyote Clan Council.

Iron Spider

Clan Burrock pulled what may well be the ultimate intellegence coup among the Clans.  through thier watch members they had discovered that as soon as Operation REVIVAL made contact with the Inner Sphere, and reports floated back in, that Clan Star Adder (And Clan Coyote with improved Missiles) was already hard at work figuring our how to increase the power of laser and particle weaponry, and that the Star Adders had been uncaching Lupus Omnimechs or trailing for decommissioned Lupus Omnimechs to use as test beds and/or Crash Armament build ups.  the Burrocks knew that the weapons themselves were still in concept and early materiels testing, not to be ready until the end of the decade at the latest.  the use of the outdated Lupus concerned them however, as it was a mech the Burrocks had little access to since the Nova Largely served their own purposes.  one mech they did have in spades however was the Glass Spider. whose wide open chassis and easy to develop equipment permitted them to  create an enhanced omnimech version that could sweep the Adders feet from under them.

renamed the Iron Spider, this new Omnimech is manufactured from the Glass Spiders molds.  Some Internal changes had to me made to accommodate the Omnimech hard points, despite this the Iron Spider is a nearly identical to the Glass Spider in every way, permitting parts to be swapped between the two mechs with trivial ease. the one major difference is the full ton of armor that was sacrificed in order to bring the pod space up to 30 tons,

the Primary and A Configurations of the Iron Spider is a flat recreation of the Glass Spider with all of the benefits there in.  the Prime does contain a 6th ton of ammunition, imperative for combat against the Inner Sphere, while the A Swaps the Small Pulse Lasers for additional MEdiums and Heat Sinks.

Configuration B was created using Intelligence and after action Reports of the so called "Clan Buster" Mechs deployed by the Com Guard.  the Curiosity that was the Champion Clan Buster proved to be particularly effective, especially considering the Champion was not well thought off even during the days of the Star Leauge.  Most curious in this mech was the use of old fashioned large lasers.  initially scoffed at as the idea of a resource strapped clan, the Lasers were sourced from cached Pulverizers still used by Burrock forces for garrison duty.  went sent into the field in computer trials, the Standard Lasers lacked range, but ran so much cooler that a high fire rate was able to be kept up along side the 88mm Cannon.

Designed to replicate the venerable SLDF Victor in City Fighting, the B owes more then a few pointers from the Lupus B it is competing directly against.  A massive 12 Centemeter Autocannon, the same kind reserved for the Dire Wolf, Warhawk, and Executioner dominates the right arm.  a battery of six lasers occupy the other side, with all of these weapons tied to an advanced targeting system for additional accuracy.  the cannon is fed by enough ammunition for 150 seconds of sustained fire.  most unusal is the jump jets.  because the legs and Center Torso are occupied by vital structural components, two of the Jets had to be placed on one side, and a combination of Gyroscope programming and "creative" thruster Assemblies were used to maintain balance mid jump.  this ability to deploy jump jets in a manner that is not balanced on all sides is completly revolutionary, and scientists ion other clans have been stumbling over themselves for the schematics.

Another Inner SPhere inspired Cioty Fighter, the D is a more brute force solution modeled after the AFFS Enforcer, which was one of the many cast off mechs the Rim World's Republic originated clan had used in Operation KLONDIKE.  a rapid fire 88mm Cannon was borrowed from the commonly deployed Thresher Battlemech, while the Kingston ERPPC supplimented.  Two ER Medium lasers replace the classic Enforcers small, and four jump jets (this time balanced).  allow for additional manuverability. 5 additional heat sinks keep the mech cool, particularly if the back up lasers are held in reserve.

Configuration E is designed for Mass LRM support, four LRM Launchers with six tons of ammunition make up this configurations primary armament.   though scarcely enough ammunition for a minute and a half of sustained fire, the Iron Spider can last on the field longer then the Mad Dog and Lupus Primes. six medium lasers provide backup to these weapons, with two facing rear to deter challengers.

Configuration F was designed as a clear signal to clan Star Adder, that even they the mightiest among the clans who were not invading the Inner Sphere were being watched carefully.  point for point, the Iron SPider F is armed identically to a proposed Lupus Configuration (sans improved laser technology) while more a propaganda tool and intelligence coup the F is Viable for multi threat warfare in tight quarters.  though massively prone to overheating, a pilot of the F Configuration will almost never want for weapons to fight with.

the G Configuration is a replacement for the Naga Omnimech, and uses the exact same Arrow IV Battery.  despite lacking the selfe defense weaponry of the Naga Prime, the Burrock Warriors and Scientists point out that a proper artilleryman should have plenty of support in front of him and no desire to fight up close.  the sentiment got a nod from Star Colonel James Cobb, who represented the Horses in this round of initial approvals before passing the mech on to the ilKhan.

the Final Configuration is the biggest oddity yet, and was presented as more of a proof of concept then a viable tactical option for the clans.  the Burrocks had come up with an intact copy of the Hachiman Taro Electronics C3 Master Module.  modeling the H Configuration after the Primitve Bellerophon mech from the pre Star Leauge Era.  The H could be used across Mixed Stars,  where a simple ER medium laser could be sacrificed in favor of a Slave Module (still un obtained as of the development of the Iron Spider).  proper deployment of Masters could allow for full trinary integration and a massive spike in targeting efficiency and coordination.  while the warrior representatives scoffed at this idea, multiple scientist posed further questions and hypotheticals, such as how to decrease the size and scale of the C 3 network.

When asked how soon the Iron Spider could be produced, Scientist Alcede and Star Colonel Henry Holliday confirmed that the Burrocks were already well underway towards converting their Glass Spiders towards the Omnimech, and that all existing Glass Spiders could be converted in less then a year.  This beat projected manufacturing time tables for the Quicksilver program of new mechs by a full five years, something that brough applause to the numerous Star Colonels overseeing this particularly part of the quicksilver program.

60 ton Mech

Iron Spider

Clan Burrock pulled what may well be the ultimate intellegence coup among the Clans.  through thier watch members they had discovered that as soon as Operation REVIVAL made contact with the Inner Sphere, and reports floated back in, that Clan Star Adder (And Clan Coyote with improved Missiles) was already hard at work figuring our how to increase the power of laser and particle weaponry, and that the Star Adders had been uncaching Lupus Omnimechs or trailing for decommissioned Lupus Omnimechs to use as test beds and/or Crash Armament build ups.  the Burrocks knew that the weapons themselves were still in concept and early materiels testing, not to be ready until the end of the decade at the latest.  the use of the outdated Lupus concerned them however, as it was a mech the Burrocks had little access to since the Nova Largely served their own purposes.  one mech they did have in spades however was the Glass Spider. whose wide open chassis and easy to develop equipment permitted them to  create an enhanced omnimech version that could sweep the Adders feet from under them.

renamed the Iron Spider, this new Omnimech is manufactured from the Glass Spiders molds.  Some Internal changes had to me made to accommodate the Omnimech hard points, despite this the Iron Spider is a nearly identical to the Glass Spider in every way, permitting parts to be swapped between the two mechs with trivial ease. the one major difference is the full ton of armor that was sacrificed in order to bring the pod space up to 30 tons,

the Primary and A Configurations of the Iron Spider is a flat recreation of the Glass Spider with all of the benefits there in.  the Prime does contain a 6th ton of ammunition, imperative for combat against the Inner Sphere, while the A Swaps the Small Pulse Lasers for additional MEdiums and Heat Sinks.

Configuration B was created using Intelligence and after action Reports of the so called "Clan Buster" Mechs deployed by the Com Guard.  the Curiosity that was the Champion Clan Buster proved to be particularly effective, especially considering the Champion was not well thought off even during the days of the Star Leauge.  Most curious in this mech was the use of old fashioned large lasers.  initially scoffed at as the idea of a resource strapped clan, the Lasers were sourced from cached Pulverizers still used by Burrock forces for garrison duty.  went sent into the field in computer trials, the Standard Lasers lacked range, but ran so much cooler that a high fire rate was able to be kept up along side the 88mm Cannon.

Designed to replicate the venerable SLDF Victor in City Fighting, the B owes more then a few pointers from the Lupus B it is competing directly against.  A massive 12 Centemeter Autocannon, the same kind reserved for the Dire Wolf, Warhawk, and Executioner dominates the right arm.  a battery of six lasers occupy the other side, with all of these weapons tied to an advanced targeting system for additional accuracy.  the cannon is fed by enough ammunition for 150 seconds of sustained fire.  most unusal is the jump jets.  because the legs and Center Torso are occupied by vital structural components, two of the Jets had to be placed on one side, and a combination of Gyroscope programming and "creative" thruster Assemblies were used to maintain balance mid jump.  this ability to deploy jump jets in a manner that is not balanced on all sides is completly revolutionary, and scientists ion other clans have been stumbling over themselves for the schematics.

Another Inner SPhere inspired Cioty Fighter, the D is a more brute force solution modeled after the AFFS Enforcer, which was one of the many cast off mechs the Rim World's Republic originated clan had used in Operation KLONDIKE.  a rapid fire 88mm Cannon was borrowed from the commonly deployed Thresher Battlemech, while the Kingston ERPPC supplimented.  Two ER Medium lasers replace the classic Enforcers small, and four jump jets (this time balanced).  allow for additional manuverability. 5 additional heat sinks keep the mech cool, particularly if the back up lasers are held in reserve.

Configuration E is designed for Mass LRM support, four LRM Launchers with six tons of ammunition make up this configurations primary armament.   though scarcely enough ammunition for a minute and a half of sustained fire, the Iron Spider can last on the field longer then the Mad Dog and Lupus Primes. six medium lasers provide backup to these weapons, with two facing rear to deter challengers.

Configuration F was designed as a clear signal to clan Star Adder, that even they the mightiest among the clans who were not invading the Inner Sphere were being watched carefully.  point for point, the Iron SPider F is armed identically to a proposed Lupus Configuration (sans improved laser technology) while more a propaganda tool and intelligence coup the F is Viable for multi threat warfare in tight quarters.  though massively prone to overheating, a pilot of the F Configuration will almost never want for weapons to fight with.

the G Configuration is a replacement for the Naga Omnimech, and uses the exact same Arrow IV Battery.  despite lacking the selfe defense weaponry of the Naga Prime, the Burrock Warriors and Scientists point out that a proper artilleryman should have plenty of support in front of him and no desire to fight up close.  the sentiment got a nod from Star Colonel James Cobb, who represented the Horses in this round of initial approvals before passing the mech on to the ilKhan.

the Final Configuration is the biggest oddity yet, and was presented as more of a proof of concept then a viable tactical option for the clans.  the Burrocks had come up with an intact copy of the Hachiman Taro Electronics C3 Master Module.  modeling the H Configuration after the Primitve Bellerophon mech from the pre Star Leauge Era.  The H could be used across Mixed Stars,  where a simple ER medium laser could be sacrificed in favor of a Slave Module (still un obtained as of the development of the Iron Spider).  proper deployment of Masters could allow for full trinary integration and a massive spike in targeting efficiency and coordination.  while the warrior representatives scoffed at this idea, multiple scientist posed further questions and hypotheticals, such as how to decrease the size and scale of the C 3 network.

When asked how soon the Iron Spider could be produced, Scientist Alcede and Star Colonel Henry Holliday confirmed that the Burrocks were already well underway towards converting their Glass Spiders towards the Omnimech, and that all existing Glass Spiders could be converted in less then a year.  This beat projected manufacturing time tables for the Quicksilver program of new mechs by a full five years, something that brough applause to the numerous Star Colonels overseeing this particularly part of the quicksilver program

Overview:
After throwing considerable resources into lighter categories for the Quicksilver programme and getting no useful results, the Hells Horses were getting frantic. Without the resources of building at least one of the new designs, they could easily fall behind other clans. Even the Fire Mandrills had secured two slots!

With factory space available from the retirement of the venerable Hellbringer, the Horses repurposed as much of the sub-assembly production as possible towards a new heavy OmniMech design. To ease production they started from an existing and successful BattleMech design: one based on the ancient and well-understood Guillotine.

Already in wide deployment, the Guillotine IIC could readily be rebuilt to supplement new production. There was only one problem: the Hells Horses didn't have the rights to the design. The Coyotes struck a tough bargain by insisting on joint design and production. Their insistance on opening up more pod-space than that allocated in original drafts of the design, made jumpjets an option and cut back the default allocation of heatsinks to a minimum.

Initial arguments over the project had the Coyotes label the design as the Crazy Horse - possibly in partial reference to the Inner Sphere's claim that the Hellbringer Prime, on which the Horse's preferred configuration of the new design had been based, was crazy. The Hells Horses, not in on the joke, traced an ancient Terran warleader by the name and assumed name was a deliberate reference rather than a slur, adopting it as the official name of the new 'Mech.

Capabilities:

While the Guillotine IIC's inner chassis and engine remained completely viable, the armour wasn't up to modern standards. A new and thicker layer of Forging Omni-H24 - now available from the same plant that supplied it for the Hellbringer - modestly improved protection. Electronics were instead copied directly from those used on the Summoner, providing cross-compatibility of parts.

Rather than the classic 'Prime' configuration, the Hells Horses instead laid out the H configuration, resembling the Hellbringer's Prime configuration for their own use. The preferred configuration of the Crazy Horse for Clan Coyote is the G, resembling the Guillotine IIC.

Working from here the Clan's scientists developed A configuration as a sniper - almost identical to a configuration on the new Pulsar heavy Omni-Mech.

The B configuration is similarly intended as a long range support 'Mech - the Crazy Horse is unlikely to be able to chase down a target so it needs long range armament.

The precise opposite sentiment is asserted by the C configuration which favours close quarters in rough terrain by focusing on short range firepower and an active probe.

Overview
The Golden Lion is a heavy-weight OmniMech designed by a collaborative team from Clans Goliath Scorpion and Steel Viper.  The name derives from the SLDF 328th Royal BattleMech Division (The Lion-Hearted) which survives to this day as the Wolf 328th Assault Cluster.

Khan Zalman selected the name not to honor the Wolves, but rather to irritate the ilKhan, whom he blames for the Vipers poor showing at Tukayyid and during the final Wave of Operation Revival.  Zalman has come to believe that the true reason Clan Steel Viper was not assigned their own invasion corridor after being activated was not to supplement Clan Jade Falcon as the ilKhan has insisted, but rather entwine the two bitter enemies in intra-clan conflict while the Wolves remained free to operate without interference from another Clan within THEIR corridor.

The Wolves have taken particular exception to the naming of this OmniMech (as Zalman anticipated) and have fought a Trial of Grievance to force a name change . . . a trial which Clan Wolf narrowly lost when they faced a full Binary of Golden Lion prototypes on Strana Mechty.

Despite the ilKhan's frustration over the name, Khan Zalman believes that the design itself is good enough to serve as the replacement for the first-generation OmniMech, the Woodsman.  Based upon the highly successful Viper-designed Black Python BattleMech, the Golden Lion took just four months to move from concept to prototype, with the only outside assistance being the acquisition of Tokasha 300 standard fusion engines from Clan Goliath Scorpion (taken from the Stone Rhino production lines).

Although slightly slower than most Clan front-line heavy OmniMechs, the use of the standard engine has allowed for excellent armor protection and a VERY large amount of pod-space (34 tons, in fact).  All at a cost in resources of around 42.6% of Clan Wolf's signature Timber Wolf OmniMech.  Khan Zalman trusts that this design will show his fellow Khans that the Vipers are indeed a force to be feared in both the Homeworlds and the Inner Sphere.


Capabilities
Massing 75 tons, the Golden Lion uses a Tokasha 300 standard fusion engine to provide power for weapons, equipment, and movement.  Standard walking speed is 43.2 kilometers per hour with a maximum running speed of 64.8 kph.  No jump jets or MASC were fitted to the base chassis, allowing the Viper design team to maximize the available pod-space.

A modified version of the BP-2 endo-steel chassis used on the Black Python was utilized in the design, along with twelve full tons of Armorweave NK 62 ferro-fibrous plating.  In an unusual move, the Viper scientists did not 'bank' additional double-strength heat sinks in the engine; although this freed up two additional tons for pod-space, it also served to reduce the internal volume when large numbers of DHS are required.  In typical Viper design fashion, the arms were left completely free of fixed internal components; the endo-steel and ferro-fibrous were concentrated in the legs and torsos, although UNLIKE the majority of Viper designs, the Golden Lion is able to mount Omnipods in the center and side torsos (albeit, smaller ones).

Pod-space was left at a hefty 34.0 tons.

The Prime Configuration is an energy-weapon laden beast, featuring twin ER PPCs (right arm and left arm), supported by eight Medium Pulse Lasers (four each in the right and left torso).  Sixteen Double-strength Heat Sinks allow for the use of either the PPC battery or the Medium Pulse Laser battery while remaining heat-neutral or generating only movement heat.

Configuration A is an effort to tweak the nose of Clan Wolf.  This configuration is armed in an identical manner as the Timber Wolf Prime:  each arm carries an ER Large Laser and an ER Medium Laser, supported by two LRM-20 launchers (right torso and left torso), two Machine-Guns (right torso and left torso, fed by a half-ton of ammunition), and a Medium Pulse Laser (left torso). Seventeen DHS are fitted . . . the same as the Timber Wolf Prime.  In fact, the ONLY difference between the two designs is that the Golden Lion A carries four tons of LRM ammunition instead of two, increasing endurance.

Configuration B has been fitted with four jump jets (two each in the right and left torso).  Armament consists of two ER Lasers in the left arm (an ER Large and an ER Medium), supporting a Streak SRM-4 launcher in the left torso (fed by a ton of ammunition) and a massive LB-20X autocannon in the right arm (fed by three tons of ammunition).  Thirteen DHS elminates all but movement heat even when the Streaks lock onto target.  At the insistance of Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Vipers installed a four-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso as well.

Configuration C is the ultimate expression of the ancient Rifleman concept.  Intended for Air Defense of Viper Clusters, the Golden Lion C is armed with twin LB-5X Autocannons (right arm and left arm, fed by four tons of ammunition), twin Large Pulse Lasers (right arm and left arm), and two ER Medium Lasers (right torso and left torso).  Twelve double-strength heat sinks are enough to allow the Golden Lion C to fire the LPLs and LB-5Xs while running and remain heat neutral; at closer ranges, the Warrior may substitute both ER Mediums for a single Large Pulse for the same heat-load.

The Golden Lion D was created in an effort to gain Smoke Jaguar support.  This configuration is armed with an Ultra AC-20 (right arm, with four tons of ammunition), an Ultra AC-10 (left arm, with two tons of ammunition), four ER Medium Lasers (left arm, left torso, right torso, and center torso), and an ECM Suite (right torso).  Eleven DHS do not even BEGIN to deal with the massive levels of heat this war-machine can generate, but when properly used, a skilled Warrior can balance the heat load.

Configuration E once again adds jump jets . . . four again, with two each in the right and left torso.  Based on the SLDF Highlander, the Golden Lion E is armed with a Gauss Rifle (right arm with three tons of ammunition for 24 shots), an LRM-20 in the right torso with four tons of ammunition for 24 salvoes, a Streak SRM-6 in the left torso with a ton of ammunition, and two ER Medium Lasers in the left arm.  Just the base ten DHS are mounted, but the design only overheats on a jumping Alpha Strike when the Streak 6-pack locks on target.

And finally, there is Configuration F . . . another weapons and equipment layout that the Scorpions demanded.  Armament consists of three ER PPCs (right arm, left arm, and left torso), tied into a four ton Targeting Computer (right torso).  Twenty-two double-strength heat sinks allow for a 3-2-3 firing pattern with little effect on the operation of the Golden Lion F, which can constantly and consistently maintain a high volume of long-range firepower few other OmniMechs or BattleMechs can match.

Overview:
In looking for resources to rebuild the touman of Clan Diamond Shark, saKhan Barbara Sennet granted almost unheard of powers to Merchant Factor Angus Labov. The Quicksilver programmes importance for these purposes could hardly be understated but even saKhan Sennet was surprised when the Merchant Factor suggested updating a century-old design to become one of the Diamond Shark's
flagship designs.

Despite this, Labov made a compelling case. The Warhammer IIC had been fielded at one time or another by every Clan and many still made regular use of it in secondline formations. The Warhammer had dominated battlefields for over half a millenium for a reason and the Clan's version was well-regarded as stalwart design. Putting it back into production would be relatively simple and if some components weren't immediately available, equipment from caches could be used to fill the gaps.

As an example Labov had ordered one of the Diamond Sharks' Warhammer IICs refitted with the Pitban engine from a cached Thug in place of the - currently out of production - Type 10 Standard originally used. Not only did the 'Mech function perfectly but it continued to do so when the elderly Mk XVII ER PPCs were replaced with Type DDS 'Kingston' PPCs freshly acquired from Clan Cloud Cobra. Even Khan Ian Hawker - essentially stripped of authority within the Clan but still a warrior of deadly expertise - was forced to respect the design and
in rare accord both Diamond Shark Khans approved development of the Glaive.


Capabilities:
Since the Diamond Sharks were still building SFX-80 endosteel frames to repair damaged Warhammers, the Glaive uses one as standard. The Type 10 standard reactor still hasn't re-entered production so Glaives thus far use the Pitban 320 which can be found in any number of caches in Clan space. One of the test 'Mechs even uses a reactor salvaged from a captured DCMS Hatamoto-chi. Although the reactor can usually be fitted with twelve heatsinks, the designers opted to  strip it back to ten in order to give

Armour was readily available as Forging ZM15 was, like the internal structure, still in production for repairs. The designers resculpted the 'Mech's visage into a new and distinctive shape - one that layers another half-ton of protection across the front.

The Glaive has four weapon bays, large but not quite as large as some Mechwarriors would like. They're more than ample for plenty of heatsinks and most configurations use this.

The Glaive Prime and Glaive A are simple, mimicking the Warhammer IIC and its most common variant. Clan Smoke Jaguar, who developed the latter variant, were invited to observe tests of the Glaive A in a blatant marketing ploy - albeit one well received as the Jaguars touman is in dire need of new 'Mechs.

The Glaive B moves over to imitate a predecessor to the Warhammer, the AFFS Hammerhands. With jumpjets and an active probe, the B configuration is geared for urban combat. Firepower comes with a pair of autocannon and four lasers.

Finally the Glaive moves over and copies from the Gargoyle A and B with the C and D configurations. The Glaive C is pure energy with two PPCs in one arm and a laser array in the other, likely to be favoured by the Goliath Scorpions and other Clans who favour precision firepower. The Glaive D adopts the familiar heavy autocannon and medium lasers, mixing pulse and extended range technology. However, it uses LB-X rather than Ultra, to conserve ammunition over lengthy battles.

Nightstalker

Overview:
When Star Colonel Damon Hawkins, a Ghost Bear abtakha, was given the command of the Clan Ice Hellion's Thirty-third Striker Irregulars, he was also given the task of rebuilding the cluster from the its shattered remains following the Hellion's Fury campaign. The only Mech's that survived were a variety of heavy and assault OmniMechs. This pleased Hawkins as he favored these types of Mechs in his tactics. However, the Clan was finding it difficult to procure these Mechs from the usual sources, Clan Diamond Shark and trials of possession.

Star Colonel Hawkins, with the tacit support of Galaxy Commander Drew Norizuchi, issued a proposal to Khan Tyler and SaKhan Lienet to develop a new OmniMech for the Clan and for the IlKhan's Quicksilver Program. His proposal would include the team that developed the Lithe Kill/Quicksilver OmniMechs. After a somewhat heated debate, Hawkins and SaKhan Lienet were able to convince Khan Tyler that this would be in the best interest of Clan Ice Hellion and, as an added benefit, the rest of the Clans.

Hawkins then met with Senior Scientist Timo Heisenberg, the head of the successful Quicksilver design team, who assigned a pair of his best
subordinates, Scientist Kasha and Mirko, the task of turning Star Colonel Hawkins' idea into reality. Using assorted pieces of salvage and isorla, the two scientist and their technicians fused the torsos of several antiquated Woodsman Omnimechs to the legs of salvaged Warhawks. They were able to create three working chassis to test their prototypes.

The next challenge was the powerplant, which turned out to be less of a challenge that origanlly thought. Again, using salvage, the pulled a sufficient number of powerplants from Thirty-third's wrecked Viper OmniMechs. A half dozen powerplants were secured for use in what was becoming known as the Nightstalker project. Scientist Mirko, like a typical Ice Hellion, wanted to add a MASC system, but Star Colonel Hawkins vetoed this choice in favor of added firepower, However, Hawkins did acquiesce to Mirko's suggestion of keeping the
armor layout limited to ten-and-a-half tons of ferro-fibrous armor as it agreed with his need for more firepower.

After reviewing the battleroms from the Battle of Tukayyid and other actions from Operation Revival, Scientist Kasha added an ECM suite to scramble the enemy's electronics and added a pair of anti-personnel pods to discourage the use of standard infantry in anti-mech attacks. These additions left the Nightstalker with forty-three tons of available pod space, which is more than fifty pecent of the Omnimech's intended mass.

Aesthtically, with it's bird-like legs and humanoid torso, the Nightstalker has an unusual appearance. And given that this design is meant to fill the role of an assailant, one of the lesser technicians thought that it would be best to give this new Omnimech a visage that instills fear in the enemy much like a creature from one's nightmares would do. An horrifyingly ugly face with large gnashing teeth are formed on the Nightstalker's armor around the cockpit (think Nosferatu, the original movie vampire).

Variants

With the exeptional amount of pod space to work with, Scientists Kasha and Mirko had a free reign to explore as many as options as they could fit on this new chassis. The Able variant feature the heavy hitting Gauss Rifle mounted each arm with fed by a pair pf cavernous ammunition bays. Primary backup comes from a pair of six-tube Streak SRM launchers and a quartet of ER medium lasers.

The Bravo variant is a variation of the Able and features a pair of Class-20 Ultra autocannons mounted with ER large lasers in the arms. A total of eight tons of ammunition feeds the hungry autocannons allowing for a prolonged presence on the battlefield. A pair of small pulse lasers act as the only backup weapons for the Bravo.

The Charlie is a variation of the Bravo's laser/autocannon layout, this time pairing the large pulse laser with a Class 10 LB-X autocannon in each arm. The ammunition bay is smaller than that for the Ultras, but it will keep the Charlie in the field longer than the Bravo. A pair each of ER medium and small pulse laser provide additonal fire suppoert with the small pulse lasers mounted to the rear.

The Delta variant features a brace of powerful ER PPCs paired with the Class 5 LB-X autocannon. Each autocannon is fed by a two-ton ammunition bay that allows the Delta to stay in the filed longer than the Bravo or Charlie variats. For additional long range fire support a ten-tube LRM launcher is mounted in each side torso with two tons of ammunition available to the two launchers. The Echo variant is an unusual conglomeration of weaponry featuring a Class 20 Ultra autocannon as the main weapon. It features the same four-ton ammunition bin of the Bravo variant, but only one autocannon is mounted. Long-range fire support comes from two different weapons, a pair of fifteen-tube LRM launchers with the Artemis IV FCS and a pair of large pulse lasers. No other weapons are carried to support the Echo variant.

The next two variants are notfavored by Star Colonel Hawkins, but he thinks that some of the Invader Clans might find some small interest in the artillery weapons carried. The Foxtrot variant features the Arrow IV artilley missile launcher with four tons of ammunition available to the launcher. Should the Foxtrot get too close to the enemy it has an impressive array of weapons to discourage the enemy from battling the Foxtrot. An ER PPC shares the left arm with a Class 10 Ultra autocannon with three tons ofammunition available for the autocannon. For additional protection a large pulse laser and a pair of small pulse lasers, one of which is mounted to the rear for anti-infantry defense.

The Golf variant is the most controversial variant of the seven being submitted for the IlKhan's program. The main weapon is a Thumper artillery cannon stripped from a Marksman found in a cache on Hector. Three tons of ammunition can keep the Golf in the field for a considerable amount of time. Like the Foxtrot, the Golf's secondary weapons are rather extensive and powerful. A gauss rifle with a three-ton ammunition bay is the main secondary armament.
This powerful weapon is backed up by a pair of large lasers, one each of pulse and extended range. There are no short-ranged backup weapons for the Golf and none are truly needed.
