Why would they defect if there still has a Terran Hegemony or a Cameron?

Because there is no Star League- if you grew up in the DC (which has withdrawn/refused to acknowledge the SL lead by the TR) are you going to fight against your countrymen? Was SL indoctrination so good that you continue to fight for the SLDF against your home?  Or what if you are from the CC and they are attacked by the FWL- are you going to sit by the side or are you going to aid in the defense of your home land?  Soldiers from the FS would surely go to their nations aid when it is attacked by the DC- especially if the SLDF says they are not going to get involved but rather protect the TR.

I think if the SL had survived the Coup then the situation would be different, but having fallen I think a lot of the SLDF troops would have eventually left to fight for their home nations.

This makes me eager to create a French Corps with Marshal Ney, the Foreign Legion units...

Didn't we tackle this in Mercenary Guild?

I had something else in mind.

There are still something to defend and a chief of state from the "good" family.

I think this discussion is bringing a good concept to my brain. How about a discussion between Kerensky and DeChavilier seriously breaking down a what if the SLDF remains? Their ideas of what might happen, a worst case scenario... we could include another character like Grec for a three sided perspective.

One argument that could be made in the SD setting is that the exodus might actually improve the TR chances. If the SLDF fractures the size and power of the SS will be the most boosted but if the Majority of the SLDF exoduses while a disproportionate number of Terran units remains it would be beneficial for the TR. The periphery revolt have decisively proven to Kerenski that he can't impose peace on even the outer regions much less the core and certainly not after the carnage of the Amaris war.

I could see that CJvR.

Here is another question for everyone. What do you think the SLDF's attitude towards nukes would be?

This goes to their mentality going into the Succession Wars.

To me WMDs like nukes have been used as a short cut to grind them down since Periphery Uprising. I don't see them as willing to use them like Amaris did. I.E. indiscriminately to gain tactical advantage. I think the Houses have been watching and show indications that they are willing to utilize such weapons in the coming war.

I suspect a deep loathing is only the beginning of the sentiment. Fighting an occupation force spreading them around with utter indifference on your home worlds! Although for the most part they have only experienced tactical bombing, not strategic. In some sense I expect some of them will have an itchy trigger for the bomb, they were forced to watch the Rimmers gleefully burn worlds while having no way to retaliate. Dropping the hammer of some SS lord would probably be cathartic for many.

They probably have a first strike doctrine, if you suspect where the main enemy stockpiles are you hit them. If they are already dispersed then lose order formations is required since concentrations, ah well...

Perhaps echoes of this doctrine can be seen in the Clans, minimum forces, dispersal down to the point where the single duel become the norm. When the Clans were reformed perhaps they slipped into the odd formalized warfare rather easily because it fit SLDF operations doctrine on the nuclear battlefield.

After the Amaris War? Blow them all.

Excuse me, no one has also thought to check what is reported in the book 1630 The Star League published by FASA, regarding the units that then took part in the Exodus?

The discourse of the armored divisions, however, seems that more than being part of the SLDF, they are more a kind of militia of the Terran Hegemony.

That is the admittedly quick look at the divisions of the Exodus provided by sarna which is extremely useful. Still have to find all the Independent Regiments.
